Some of you may be wondering how we've gone from life in a 4 bedroom detached home, and manoeuvred our family into our home on wheels while we explore Australia?!
If you have a spare half hour, come and have a sticky beak inside our Jayco Journey Outback bunk caravan, customised to our suit our family's needs. Some things were pre-planned whilst others have evolved after being on the road for over 3 months already.
Take a guided tour of how we live day to day as a family of four, what works and what we've learnt (or learned to live with!!). See how we pack all our gear inside this 22 footer with room to spare. Sarah loves organised storage and using space to the max, which may help if you are considering taking off on the journey of a lifetime! All we can really say is 'baskets all the way'!! Well that was probably Sarah to be honest, but Damo doesn't complain either (especially when he's rummaging for food)! 😂
The great Aussie outdoors is the biggest living area we could ever hope for, but our cosy home comes an awesome close second 😉
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to drop us a comment or get in touch on our Facebook page 'Venturing Four' or Instagram 'venturing_four'
We'll see you out there!!

Thank you for your presentation. I have few things as I like to know from you as users. How many showers we can have from fresh water tank. Are they use Grey water or we can empty anywhere. As a person from subcontinent I like to know can we use a 230V rice cooker. Heating when not connected to main power source.
@venturingfour
@venturingfour 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, glad you found it helpful. With the two full freshwater tanks we found they lasted our family approx 6 days, however we did make provision for extra drinking water cartons to help. We also limited showers if we needed to. Two tanks gave us 180L so it really depends on how long you shower for and how many in your family. You really do have to be fairly water savvy to make it last. With our grey water, most places have an outlet for your grey water hose, some like you to run it on the grass, whilst others insist you keep it onboard in a grey water tank and then let it out at either your next stop (if they have facilities) or at a designated area. After we did this video, we upgraded our inverter to 2000w meaning we could run most appliances off grid. Again it depends on the wattage of your appliance as anything that generates heat often consumes more I believe. We could run the reverse cycle air conditioning for a while off grid too. I hope that helps?

brente1982 Hey! I’m pretty sure one side comes with 240v socket and 2xUSB ports and the other comes with 1x12v cig socket. We upgraded to have 2x240v & 2xUSB either side of the bed. The USB’s are only 1 or 2amp in power so don’t always pick up our phones which is annoying. 👍

Hi, Thanks for sharing your video. I am looking at buying either the Journey 19ft or the 22ft like you have but I am concerned about the weight of the 22ft. I too will have a Ford Ranger Wildtrak to tow the van and was wondering how your Ranger tows your 22ft? Have you done any suspension upgrades? Or engine / transmission upgrades? Do you know what weights you are running with both the Van and vehicle?
@venturingfour
@venturingfour 4 жыл бұрын
Laurie BSL our Ranger tows the 22ft very nicely and with no issues. We upgraded our suspension to an adjustable Outback Armour with 150kg constant on the rear. We only have the fridge and rack on the rear of the Ute so not a lot of weight. If I had a set of drawers I would’ve gone the 300kg constant. We are very mindful of our weights and have had them checked twice since being in the road. We currently come in at 5700kg GCM. It’s all about finding a balance when packing the van. Clothes, tools, toys etc. We constantly cull a lot of our stuff. If something new is purchased we often throw something old out or take it to charity. It looks like there is about 200kg difference between the 19&22ft, however the tow ball weight is larger on the 19ft. If weight is going to be an issue, you can always pay to have a GVM & GCM upgrade on your Ranger, this would then give you another 500-700kg extra. I hope this helps make your decision. Happy to answer anymore questions. Good luck 👍

Laurie with a fairly stock (as in not heavy accessories) you should have no trouble towing this van. I have a Ranger XLT and am currently pulling accessories out of it. Mainly my heavy aftermarket custom drawers. With them out and the remainder of my accessories staying, I should just fall below GCM with the $149 upgraded payload/suspension on the van. I have a dobinsons MRR lift with 280kg constant load rear springs and having towed an 18 foot expanda previously had no issue with the way it handled. I would suggest getting an aftermarket transmission cooler installed though. That is definitely a must do upgrade.

Hey guys. How do you manage to stay under your 6 tonne gcm with van and car set up?
@venturingfour
@venturingfour 4 жыл бұрын
Daniel Winchester It’s all about finding a balance when packing the van and car with clothes, tools, toys etc. We constantly cull a lot of our stuff. If something new is purchased we often throw something old out or take it to charity. We currently sit around 5700kg GCM and have been on the weighing scales twice since being on the road. Just because you have space in the van doesn’t mean you can ram it full of stuff. We have lithium batteries instead of AGM which saves heaps more weight. Our car doesn’t have all the bells and whistles, just a fridge and another lithium battery and a couple of boxes for our recovery gear. If I had drawers, bull bar etc it wouldn’t work and I’d need a GCM, GVM upgrade to give me another 500-700kg. I guess it all depends on what you think you need and what you actually need. I hope this helps answer your question. Thanks for watching, V4 👍

Venturing Four cool thanks for the reply. I’m looking at the van under yours as it only weights in at 2979kgs atm (I think that’s the figures) my bt50 has a little bit of gear in it so it makes it very hard to get weights right. 🤦‍♂️ I’m also possibly looking at a small car topper boat but will see how I go.
@brente1982
@brente1982 3 жыл бұрын
@@explorewildaus5910 I'm the same as you. I've had to strip some accessories out of my Ranger in order to tow this van once I get it early next year. Weights will be close but legal. We all know the car manufacturers understate the capabilities to give themselves around a 10-15% margin on it. Otherwise getting a GVM/GCM without modifying axles wouldn't be available. I've calculated through much research that I'll be around 5960kg once car and van loaded 🤞
