These are not comparable wines by any stretch of your highly evolved imagination, method, climate , clone , price . They perhaps represent style choices but this is not mentioned . To rave of one that is big & bold is not fair to elegance & style. Usually very much enjoy your videos. Cheers Wallace Fraser

Alpha Omega is an interesting choice as a representation for Napa wines as it’s a relatively newer winery. Be curious to see your thoughts on an older vineyard... Far Niente, Tamber Bay (kinda), or like Duckhorn. Fun video!

My parents only drink Hall’s Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa which I’m not such a big fan of. However, I do find that every time I smell a Cabernet Sauvignon, I get this musty, earthy smell. Anyways; So is Légende the sub appellation of Bordeaux on the left bank?

Hi Madeline, I was curious about the effect the alcohol content has on the aging potential of a wine, I've read that high alcohol wines tend to be a little overwhelmed by the alcohol when they've aged for many years. Do you have an opinion on this? I'm fairly new to wine. Well good wine anyway :)
@Winefolly
@Winefolly 4 жыл бұрын
So, this is definitely a contentious topic, even with the experts! I used to think that you needed a lower alcohol wine in order to age for decades. Then I tasted a 1963 Amarone (with 15% ABV!) that proved an exception to the rule. So, here's what I've noticed (sorry, this gets a little technical). When you have wines that release with some level of VA (Volatile Acidity - usually below 1 g/L), with high ABV, and good structure (lots of tannin, good acidity, that sort of thing), then it might actually do well to sit down a long time. This was exactly the case with this Amarone (it was a Bertani). On the other hand, wines can age well with lower alcohol too! For example, Riesling from Germany with only about 8% ABV (and residual sugar) can taste life-changing, and emotional after 30 years. So, long and short of it: it depends. The most important thing I look for in a wine I think might age is the structure (tannin, acids level, pH, color intensity / stability, and RS -residual sugar).

@@Winefolly All good! Really enjoy watching your videos and all that you do. I will admit I was surprised by how little oak was used in the Bordeaux. The Napa wine is far too strong for me. Over extracted is that the word? Many Napa Chardonnay are also too much of a mouthful. Ramey etc I cannot drink. I would pour small glasses and sip but drink less than a Bordeaux. Bordeaux are often dry and lack refinement. Perhaps my palette has died. Too many disappointments in recent years. I usually stick with anything Guigal from France And Bread and Butter from Napa.
