Le Monastère des Augustines is the oldest hospital in North America. Follow musician Mandy Harvey on her journey as she discovers historical sites and performs for locals in Québec City.
Mandy Harvey is a deaf singer and songwriter from Tampa, Florida who constantly strives to encourage others and show what a different side of a disability looks like. Mandy travels to Québec City in Québec, Canada to continue her personal travel journey of trying things that she is afraid of, but that are beautiful.
Mandy learns how to pull out all the stops while learning about the history of North America's oldest hospital, Le Monastère des Augustines in Québec City, Canada. She meets Sister Sarah Macdonald at Le Monastère des Augustines and learns that the monastery and hospital started when the Augustine Sisters arrived from France in 1639. Presently, Le Monastère des Augustines has become open to the public, serving visitors as a hotel.
Marie-Eve Perron discusses the monastery’s integration of concerts, art and wellness programs onsite, as a way to restore the focus and harmony of the mind and body. Organist, Benjamin Waterhouse teaches Mandy about pulling out all the stops in the organ. As a singer and a musician, Mandy feels the connection with this musical instrument and plays a song with Benjamin.
Mandy performs for a crowd of people at Terrase Dufferin in front of the Château Frontenac. One of the best things about performing to Mandy, is seeing people enjoying music together as a community.
