I feel like I could listen to Bruce fir hours and hours. So much knowledge and wisdom about nature. I wish he would have more time in the movie to talk about nature. But to watch his sheer joy and happiness while he was in the jungle was bliss. I admire how far deep he hiked, I probably couldn’t do half and I am only 44. Kudos to the amazing climbers as well! 👍👍👍
@davidkoblentz
@davidkoblentz 2 жыл бұрын
the best part of this movie is Bruce. not even close, the climbing was cool but Bruce is the heart of this movie. his "goodbye speech" to the forest is so on point, you could not write that if you wanted to, perfection. I did not like how it seemed like they were on the summit for like 10 minutes (and you saw precious little) and then in a blink they were back in base camp. but that aside the visuals are great, you do not get how bad the jungle beats people up though, it almost makes it seem like most people could make this trek which is not the case. the tepuis alone are worth watching here but Bruce, as I said, is the star, his years of experience radiate through the screen.

Venezuela owns 115 of the 125 tepuis of the world. This trip will be memorable. Canaima National Park in south east Venezuela hosts all of these tepuis, including Auyantepuy where Angel Falls drops from, and hundreds of other awe-inspiring and jaw-dropping waterfalls and pristine creeks, rivers, lakes, lagoons, and caves - plus ancient and untouched flora and fauna, which predate the dinosaur age. Roraima tepuy is 85% in Venezuela, 5% in Brazil and 15% in Guyana. The Guyana part is in dispute, because the British stole the Essequibo from Venezuela in the late 1800's and the case is now being reviewed. Justice will be made. 🇻🇪🇻🇪🇻🇪

Hello friend, although you do not say the theft of the British, how can you say that 5% is Guayana when it is the same in Venezuelan territory, although it is administered by Guyana, it does not have sovereignty and it is called the de facto limit, 15% is in our Essequibo and the other 5% on a border that could be the subject of discussion since Mount Roraima should not be a border for historical reasons to what was and is the captaincy of Venezuela

I really wish Disney wasn't ruining Natgeo. A lot of things about this interest me, but Definitely not the 'reality' tv dramatization I see in this trailer and across many of Natgeos current shows (shows that often have very little to do with nature smh). Otherwise this looks like it'll be interesting, I'll just try very hard to ignore the extreme dramatization they seem to need to add to all their shows now days.

I could not agree more. Disney has turned into nothing but a machine to make money like so many others. Walt is likely turning in his grave. It was overly dramatic for sure. The climbing that was shown was not the first ascent but likely the second. A majority of the footage shown was from above from fixed ropes for the camera crew and many chalk marks were spotted along the way. So Alex likely climbed it at least once before. The other part that bothered me was that Bruce was really not in the best shape for this but they let it happen any way. He and and everyone involved in planning this should have known and seen this and not risked his life. I realize he likely knew it was his last expedition but no one should have been caught off guard on this being too tough for someone his age.

Why the expedition director or Dr Bruce didn’t fancy the idea of getting there by a chopper? The flight is doable and it had the ability to fulfill Dr Bruce wish to study the fauna at the summit or even at the ridge? Second I loved the fact that the documentary included top nudge climber… Alex Hannold is a legendary figure! But why the whole team had to rush down? Not even spending a night in top to give the nature plenty of time to reveal itself!?

Bruce was the one that initiated the idea of exploring the wall and the plateau of this tepui, natgeo came as a sponsor of the expedition and documenting the expedition. disney came later to add more funding to the expedition and provide a platform for the documentary to be shown to the world (for further revenue). There's no way natgeo and disney would take out the initiator of the expedition only just to make the expedition easier to execute, hire a professional climber and cameraman for the shot, and let the scientific background of this exact expedition left behind. It was Bruce initiatives that makes this documentary exist.

Probably an ignorant question but why can't they just go up in a helicopter and rappel down? Would that damage the greenery and livestock on top? And obviously with a helicopter there wouldn't be an exciting show to watch.

I was a bit disappointed about the fact that they spent days to climb the never-before climbed tepui only to just brought down one single individual of a tadpole...The shear efforts to ascend that wall is tremendous. If only they were able to spend a night on top of the plateau, they might find some 3-5 more samples of animals or plants to study. But hey, i'm nothing close to anything that they do, science or rock climbing, so... Yeah... 🤷🏼‍♂️
