The area you visited in anantnag has houses of kashmiri pandits wich are in very shabby condition.. The name of this place is Ashaji pura. it was once a localility of kashmiri pandits before 1990..you guys did right not to stop when that guy came in front of ur car.. It was a trap and those people might have robbed you all thanks to your common sense and tourist vehicle behind you.. Don't ever stop in kashmir... If even someone pretends to be in trouble don't stop..if u see JK02 Or JK14 vehicles help them as they are from jammu Or Udhampur...

We go with family and seen Anantnag and kupwaada. We travel in interior villages. Peoples are very helping. Jb bhi kisi se puchna bahut hi achhi tarah se bataya. We go on our RJ13 car. Bhai log etne se dar gye. Kashmiri people are very helpful for tourister.

I've been on that route numerous times and I want to tell you that it was correct decision not to stop the vehicle/lower the window. That individual was most probably carrying a handgun in his left hand and the people on bike, shopkeeper & some other people who usually hide in corners all of them were ready to follow his lead. A common occurrence in that region, it could've been fatal. Good thinking of the driver and blessings of god that you dodged that bullet! Be safe and carry some self defence equipment with you on such trips.
