The raised floor of Italian villas is called the “piano nobile”, meaning noble floor where the rich would have both their bedrooms and their living rooms. That’s why you often see an ornate external staircase leading to the raised floor on the facade of Italian villas, so they never needed to enter the ground floor where the staff worked.

I stayed in an Italian villa built in the 1700s, and it had a split ornate front staircase that lead to the living floor, as you described. The room it went to was gigantic with tall ceilings.

So true, for the finest example see the Caserta Palace. It's all about those grand entries leading to the upstairs and a massive staircase.

My guess is that most of the weapons and armors are replicas made in the late 1800 or early 1900! Same with the portraits of people that are looking like they did back in 1600-1700, it's looks that they are painted by the same painter as the ones from early 1900, also the frames are not likely older than a hundred years! It was pretty common that people who owned old historical houses/mansions/castles decorate with replicas to show off...

Wow. Thank you. For a family to be intact and producing heirs from medieval times up to the 1970's of the 20th Century is quite a good run. The worldwide cultural revolution that occurred in the 1970's put an end to cheaper unskilled physical labor. The cultural revolution also placed having children and the obligation to have children secondary to more individual egocentric personal interests and fulfillment of personal pleasures. Still a beautiful place. Thank you again.

You guys are so lucky to get to visit these amazing hidden gems as a profession, and your channel is definitely one of the most professional I've ever seen. I'm so grateful for you guys and your fellow explorers for bringing us these breathtaking images of crumbling edifices which would otherwise just be left to rot away into nothingness completely unbeknownst to everyone. Not to mention the stories of the people who inhabited these locations, whose lives would likely be forgotten by all but perhaps what family members or friends they left behind. If my home had to be abandoned and my things left behind after I pass, I would love for respectful and passionate individuals such as yourselves to discover it and record your findings and speculations about me, the person who left it all behind.Thank you for giving these special buildings one last hurrah and making us feel like honored guests at the party. Keep up the excellent work, fellas 😉💜

A gorgeous and ancient villa. Inside there's a curious mix of posh and expensive furniture, lamps, pictures, carpets and so on...along with far cheaper objects, which probably belongs to recent years: for instance, there's a lot a copies of famous pictures and some of the weapons aren't original but just ornamental. The dishes referring to food are just souvenirs of Italian typical restaurants. The first two portraits you found at the bottom of the stairs are not family portraits. The men caught on canvas are Giuseppe Mazzini (1805-1872), a great revolutionary leader of the Italian Risorgimento (resurgence, in English), and Camillo Benso, Earl of Cavour (1810-1861), the first Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Italy.
