Exploring an Abandoned Funeral Home with Power Still On 💀

In this episode we check out an abandoned funeral home that dates back a century and a half. Amazingly, even though the building is completely water-logged and collapsing, power still runs through it. It was also astounding how much was left behind, including caskets, embalming tools, and a hearse.
Apologies if the pacing towards the end of the video feels kind of fast. We had a few corrupted files which left us with fewer clips to work with for the video.

I like how respectful everyone is. No one's breaking shit or forcing doors open. They place items back where they found them. This is how urban exploration should be done.

You might anonymously contact a local historical society or something. They could be very interested in contracting the owner about the burial records if they go back so far.

The funeral home that they explored was called the Moulton & Kyle Funeral home, in Florida. It operated since 1851, and in the 1990's it was renamed "Kyle McLellan Funeral Services". The place then closed a few years later. The state of Florida forgot about the place, and literally just left it sitting, with the power still on. A portion of the roof soon collapsed due to neglect, and judging by satellite view on Google Earth, another portion is ready to cave in.

Or also to pick up those books etc to have in there files? Just a thought because i have no idea. Just is so amazing to me the things left in abandoned places for so many years that are never taken.

Those caskets to oddity collectors (which there is a shop in Orlando and a shop in Tampa specializing in selling stuff of the bizarre nature) are worth some major coin. The poison bottles are worth easy money. the hearse is worth good money... that book full of info you see when they were trying to figure out how much a burial cost back in the late 1800s... even in a rough condition like it is you can fetch some good money for..... To the oddity collectors there is probably 10s of thousands of dollars (maybe collectively over a 100 grand) sitting in this place.

4:10 Jesus Christ! That's a Hammond A-100 (basically the same as the legendary B3) organ, those things are worth an absolute fortune, $2000 at least. I'd kill to get my hands on that thing. By the way, to turn that thing on you have to flip one switch that engages the tone wheel, then you flip the other switch on and let go of the first one.
@mogesay
@mogesay 5 жыл бұрын
add another 2 zeros to that...Hammond organs are 200 grand in mint shape but this one is fucked and needs a ton of work but it's still worth at least 10 gs

@@mogesay They really arent though. I'm no expert, but a quick google search showed mint ones barely scratching 10gs if that.
@EddieJayCoven

It depends on the model, age and condition of each Hammond organ. If it hasn't been played in more than a decade, it will take a lot more than 5 minutes to fire it back up, and will require a lot of oil for the tonewheel generator. Took me two weeks of twice daily oilings (plus a new Start/Run switch) to get one running again. After that, it takes about 45 seconds before you can start playing it.
@EddieJayCoven
@EddieJayCoven 4 жыл бұрын
Push and hold Start switch until tonewheel assembly is running, then let go and quickly push the Run switch which then engages the the rest of the mechanisms. Of course with the one in this vid, I highly doubt the motor would engage right away.

You were right ab the fire, was wondering why I hadn’t seen this place before. It burned down in 2021, was owned by Peeples FH at the time. Might have to ask Mr Peeples about its history next time I’m at their, much more not-on-fire, facility.

At 10:35, you can see the name of one of the old owners. What I've gathered is, this place was opened in 1914 and shut down in 2013 due to a new location being built. After the main building was built, a few years down the line the attached garage was built, "Construction of the building was completed in 1914. Several years later, an attached garage was added on which featured a turntable, enabling cars to drive into the building and then turn around to head back out to the street". This place went through 4 name changes/owner changes in the 99 years it was running, It is located near Jacksonville, Florida (not going to give an exact location), on February 11th 2019, the building caught fire on the second floor due to unknown causes (cause for so much decay and roof collapse), was most likely to be people living inside of it that started the fire. This place has quite the back story, the people who started this place up were very successful for their time, it's a shame that all of this history is going to waste. Someone needs to get in there and save the antiques before the building meets it's end. Great video you guys, thumbs up!

You guys should invest in respirators for dirtier buildings... An explorer with lung cancer isn't a good thing.
@_MythicalWolf

I agree. Respirators, night vision cameras, proper hiking boots at least. Leather gloves, and probably lock picking skills. Those would all be super helpful for their adventures. I've seen them walk into black mold infested places a few times, almost step on used needles, get splinters off old doors, and be barred by locked doors which if unlucky could lock them in someplace.

That Cadillac hearse is either a 1967 or 1968 (I think). They are very collectible by the people who are "into" hearses (me). Also the caskets are valuable if they can be refinished/cleaned up. Even some of the furniture and chandeliers could be valuable to people who collect such things.. VERY interesting video! Super fun!

Wow!!! i have so many questions. First, thanks for taking this video and for sharing it. Where was this taken? How long do you think the homeless man been living there? Did you scare him by showing up or did he scare you? (OMG) Did he seem to have "created" a nice enough and safe enough space to live in? with a bed? Did you say there was water coming into the place and do you think it will all be torn down? Finally, what is the wooden item against the wall at 6:12 and I would have LOVED to see the painting you see against the wall, with the golden frame, at 6:20. Fascinating. So many interesting artifacts, including the paperwork, photos and furniture. I hate to think that will all disappear under the shovel of a bulldozer....
