Tip with lifting tin.....its better to lift it towards you. Even to the point of standing on the edge closest to you. That way when the tin comes up the snake takes off away from you instead of towards you.

Last year on Mother’s Day, kids walking the dog with Dad, Mum stayed home, Dad kicks rock and kid asked is that gold Dad ? Indeed it was a 35 grand nugget $$. Made the news, Bendigo. you don’t have to search for them just trip over them. Shane’s visit was somewhat different 🥺😒.

Here's a tip, never lift a sheet of tin from the side facing you. Had there been a snake under them you would have been bitten. Always reach across the tin and lift it from the opposite side, so the snake has an escape route and the tin is between you and the snake

One of the things I love about working these areas is not just working out what the gold is doing but what the people before me have been doing. I'd spend about 75% of my prospecting time in the forests around bendigo. Mostly the Whipstick since its only 2km up the road.

New Aussie sub here, you've got a great channel, I like your laid back style, presentation and music. You've inspired me to go check a few gold areas in the North East of Victoria, Omeo, Cassilis, the Mitta, the places where I grew up. There were a whole heap of old hermit prospectors up there, cranky old bastards they were. All working their own claims and shooting at us kids if we got too close! Great times. All these old timers are long dead. Nearly every local has a story of going up to check on Old Harris or old Blue or whoever (because they haven't been down to the general store or post office for a few months) and finding a body. All of these ole coot's claims were left to rot after the body's were buried, it's pretty sad to see their personal belongings deteriorating in the dirt. But what I'm interested in is their stashes, they didn't trust banks and would hide their gold , usually buried, on their claims. ( Or so it was rumoured haha). And they were definitely finding gold, on the odd occasion one would rock up to the pub, get drunk and start boasting about how they could uproot tomorrow, go to Thailand to live like a king. But the next day they'd be back at the claim sluicing away, digging and cursing. The lure of more gold was a powerful motivator. They weren't the only ones stashing treasure; mate of mine found a buried Chinese Cremation jar full of home smelted ingots once, detecting around Cassilis. It was over 150 years old. ( Lots of Chinese gold prospectors in the area back then). I reckon if I ran a detector at the base of the bigger trees or boulders, i might find some old buggers hidden cache, would make a nice surprise for any of their surviving family members or if none, myself!

I was thinking that his cut would have been eroded even more from rain or flooding and uncovering more gold over the years. When rivers flow and bank or turn they create an edge that collects gold. The banks that turn you want to search the facing upstream side that's where gold collects, I think I could be wrong on what side it collects. Cool video, thanks for sharing!

@@Klesh I know, there is an old gold mine near me, and I will be getting a dedicated gold detector soon. What's your suggestion for me, thinking under $1000 AU.
@Klesh
@Klesh 5 жыл бұрын
@@Andysfishing If you want a dedicated detector for finding gold, under the $1,000 AU range, take a look at some videos of people using the Minelab Gold Monster 1000. A few videos back we were using one and it was picking up the smallest flakes of gold (on solid bedrock) it was pretty unbelievable. If you want a machine a little more diverse in case you wanted to go metal detecting beaches, parks and things (along with the ability to find slightly larger gold flakes / nuggets) take a look at the Minelab Equinox 800. I think it should be in your price range. It's my main detector since I travel so much and use it everywhere imaginable (except for deeper than 10' (3 meters) under water)
@Andysfishing
@Andysfishing 5 жыл бұрын
@@Klesh I saw the Monster find some tiny gold when you were with Chris (I think). But I like the idea of finding one of those 10oz nuggets. I might lean towards the 800, if you are so happy with it, and I do a lot of travel.

I thought that too. It wouldn't get hot enough to melt the gold.

I use the EF-S 18-135mm Lens for close up shots, and EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM Lens for the vlog style shots.

@@Klesh thanks I'm looking at getting some new lenses for my upcoming vlogs and that really helps! I need to get a computer microscope so I can video tape and show just how small Cape Disappointment gold is.

It's probably abandoned for a reason. Probably because they picked the gold clean from that site. Big companies don't leave anything behind ... It's the way they do business they pick everything bone dry!!! Its sad in a way because they leave nothing behind and they do the same to trees and everything else they can profit off of and when they leave the site it takes years upon years for those areas to ever recoop if ever.

There was water going through there at one point, most water in Victoria is diverted for irrigation today. I'm sure he washed behind his ears in the creek when he had to.
