Visited collective spirit school just after Christmas in 2020 when demolition work had started, I was so upset had seen a previous video but you guys did a far better job by far, really can’t understand why on earth a decent building like this is not reused what a waste on the earths resources, thanks guys did a fantastic job as always, see you in the next one 😊😊

Can’t believe that place has been left abandoned. Looks like the building recently had a rewire with new lights and a new fire alarm system installed. Also that Rational oven is worth like 6 grand in the kitchen. It's mad how they’ve not taken it out in case it gets damaged or nicked.

If you're turning the light on, turn it off when you're leaving the room or building. There also feels a difference between flipping a switch in a room and the main breaker in a building. They may have the breaker off for a reason. I'm not sure about everywhere, but in the states you're still charged for service even if you don't use the electricity. They're getting a bill no matter what. Being respectful of the space is just top priority when exploring.

Thank you for making this video. I went to this school in the early to mid 2000s, before it was a free school. It’s so bizarre looking around knowing that it has been demolished. So many memories, gutted it’s not there anymore.

This school was a free school, the first one of it's kind in the Borough. The land was given to the school even though it was worth over 1 million.

what a shame to see such a modern school go to waste, all because of OFSTED... and its sad to see that in the few weeks inbetween your visits people with no respect for other peoples stuff went in and trashed it... great video!

Re using the electricity. The thing is, even if you’re using the electric just for a minute - it won’t affect the bill massively. In fact, the bill payers will probably have a much higher daily standing rate from the supplier. So long as you’re not using their supply for things like heaters or anything that requires a lot of energy use - I don’t see the problem. 👍🏻

It looks like the buildings were built much earlier, about the '70s by the looks of them. What were they used for before the school opening?

I went to this school before it was a free school. I was there when the gym was built and the craft block too. I graduated in 1990. Thanks so much for the tour, I remember walking down those low corridors with the side lights!

I went to this school, its kind of sad seeing it like this, but also giving me alot of nostalgia.

Regarding question on lights - it's a good question. I would say leave them as you find them (on/off) as that better reflects the abandoned state of the building. Turning on lights, to me, shatters the ambiance of exploring something in the past and wrenches it "into the present". I think you get a better quality product if you use camera lights. If nothing else, activating a power circuit has the tiny chance of electrocution or sparking a fire...

If you're switching on the power for your Explorer and making sure it's off I think that's a good idea however it also not a good idea cuz you don't know to what damage the electrical system has been and it could cause either a shock hazard or a fire hazard

Answer to your question.........its up to the owner to make sure the power is off But I just don't get it to close a whole school for bad teaching just re staff but also may be building repairs

Also some additional infomation to this two year old video, the place did not orignally start in 2013 because I did my 4 years and left before 2013, it changed hands and names a few times but i knew it as South Chadderton Highschool, searching there you may find some more infomation.

Those labs are great, better than the 1960s era ones we used in the 90s at Whitcliffe Mount which was a mix of victorian and 60s buidings. Torn down and a flashy modern one that looks like an office block. In its place.

Nicely done. I think, if remember correctly, there is a Law or act against using electricity without permission.

I've never really explored this type of thing, except once. Where I work we had access through a firedoor to an former travel agent. Big 3 story building. It was one of those moments where the powers that be just came in one day, and said "You're officially bankrupt, please close your doors now." Upstairs the staff canteen was still untouched. Tins of food had exploded in the fridge, uniform still hanging on the backs of chairs . Sugar and coffee etc still in the cupboards. It had been like it for 6 years.

If anyone is wondering why it closed , the owner ran away with all out money and we had no school supplies and only 200 people attended , we learnt nothing as teachers always left and they Diddnt care what you did , we was also getting bad foster reports because teachers couldn’t handle the kids and ran out

I am always intrigued with abandoned buildings to understand why the power has been left on in that if you leave a residential property you advise the power supplier and give a reading from the last date you were there and as far as I am aware the power is turned off. So I am assuming it’s left on for the purposes of security in some of the bigger buildings and - as you’ve mentioned CCTV Curious there is so much light in the corridors but tiny windows covered in blinds in the classrooms Not too sure about that star of the day thing. If you come from a difficult background you are likely never going to win that! Why don’t ousted help people out instead of closing the buildings down? Makes no sense

i think it depends. just switching things on in a building ? no, dont do that. bringing a generator and trying to start an abandoned vehicle? yes, i think you should be able to

Switching on the power of an entire building is probably not a good idea as there may be a reason why it's not connected in the first place. Maybe it's unsafe to yourselves or the edifice itself! However, unless power has been cut off altogether switching on a light for example, to record history, is perfectly legitimate. Generally where power has not been completely denied to a property would suggest that it has been carelessly discarded or abandoned. Therefore the miniscule cost to document the history of that place in time is invaluable.

The older the building/more longer abandoned the building the greater the risk from turning on power, be it an electric shock, to a short, to a fire. And if the main breakers are off, leave them off.

How very sad and a total waste but I don't think Primary School kids would have found it a very inspirational place. The science labs were rather good (surprisingly good) for a primary school. Better facilities then I ever had at my two primary schools. With regards to electricity usage in abandoned properties......provided the explorer hasn't broken in I do not think a little electrical usage for exploring is wrong so long as you leave the place as you found it and don't leave lights on.

Theres always someone "paying" for it even if the building owner is no longer paying a bill for the site in that case the cost falls on the local distributon network operator who are buying the power wholesale from the National Grid but not being repaid it by the building owner.

Think you should keep the lights off camera .lights and natural light gives it a better atmospheric view especially over some of the extraordinary architecture. Great work guys.

Nevermind the lights being on or off, the fact is ALL "urban explorers" are trespassing unless they have authorisation to explore a premise/building etc. Great video though!

Turning the odd set of lights on for a couple of minutes won't have a noticeable impact on the electricity bill. On average it costs something like £20 a year to run a 50w bulb for 8 hours every day.

So weird to see the building in such good condition considering it looks to be situated in the middle of a council estate I think if power is not turned off and people turn the lights on during an exploration that’s fair game... could it be the city councils fault for not taking measures to ensure the building did not have power and potentially wasted public taxes still powering it. Love the videos guys 👍🏼

Yes it should be an offence to switch on electricity as if somebody th got killed through live parts or apparatus being energized at a later stage you would be responsible for causing this

No it’s not an offense. The owners should shut the power off as soon as they vacate. As long as explorers are turning the power off I feel it’s acceptable.

I think explorer's shouldn't touch anything especaily the light . Even though someone else is paying for it and they are most likely traspassing any way . If they did get permission then that's different to use the light

My guess is that the school has been demolished due to its poor insulation and rambling layout. It was obviously built in the 1960s when insulation wasn't considered very necessary. It may also have had asbestos in it, so not worth keeping. But these are only guesses.

I thought the video was interesting and the school was in excellent condition but very uninspiring..aesthetically from the outside it didn't work for me..I hope it gets the lease of life it needs..For the length of time you or anyone for that matter was in the building the amount of electricity used would of made very little difference and if it was left on then I hardly think it is a criminal offence to switch the light on..
