This is the stuff my brain came up with when I was a kid

I've been thinking about stuff like this lately about what a game could've looked like if something changed during development or if it was made in an alternate reality. For example, Pokemon FireRed. What would the game look like if the entire region of Kanto had a completely different layout? What would the new locations be? Would there be more legendary Pokemon? What would they have looked like? It's strange to think about, but at the same time it's neat to wonder what could've been. This rom hack is really cool as it shows a version of Super Mario 64 that looks like Nintendo could've really made it and it'd be the Super Mario 64 we know and love today. Great video! I really hope to see more rom hacks like this made in the future, and especially for other games too!

That minor castle theme kinda reminds me of the dark overworld theme in Wind Waker where they basically just remixed the original theme into minor and even added a snippet of Ganon's theme.

I love how this personalized Mario 64 shit has turned from a joke to something for people who have had fever dreams about this game.

this just reminds me of how I perceived the castle as a kid, since I always misremembered the layout due to not having good spacial awareness

you can get the 2 stars from Peach secret slide and the one found in Jolly Roger Bay room/ this gives you access to the first floor levels but they all teleport you to the Bowser secret area

I love this because it's the type of thing you imagined was in the game as a kid. The castle is already pretty mysterious and creepy and there were so many rumours about unlocking Luigi and weird secret areas because of that. It's so cool that modders, memes and leaks have made our wild childhood fever dreams a reality.

Bit of a mandela effect; as I kid I actually saw two doors where the door to Bob-Omb Battlefield was, a star door and one of the doors that lead to the backyard.

I knew it, i knew that there was an alternative castle and knowing that i have dreampt about it for years knowing that this is what it looked it like and seeing it in my dreams i guess i was not wrong.

the only thing that really gives away that it's fan made, apart from the fact that it's not in the actual game, is the star carpet having wrapping textures rather than clamped textures, creating a seam down the middle

20 years ago, when I was little, I mean really little (like 4) I remember playing the fuck out of sm64. But here’s the thing; I played it so much that I had awful nightmares about it at night where I imagined levels in the game that didn’t exist. Creepy shit would happen This video totally resembles the stuff I’d have nightmares about when I was little. This video made chills run up and down my spine

The rom hacks ok and all, it’s just that when I started to play it, all I could find were all these new rooms, a simple bowser fight, and the switches were sadly pretty easy to find and unlock. What I heard from people though was that it’s only going to be all these newly added rooms but there’s going to be things to get, collect, I was like oh, maybe this is just like a phase 1 project they’ve made and everything we were able to play atm was a project example of what’s coming, that got me to feel like, well, hopefully that’s the case lol.

This hack is excellent. It really makes me feel like I'm a little kid again having dreams where I could have sworn that I played Super Mario 64 2 :)

Huh. This is missing a lot of music originally in the hack. Also, it’s weird that you played as Luigi from the start. You’re supposed to start as Mario and turn into Luigi after jumping into the Luigi painting.

I dont see why people say this could be a sequel to the original game. The layout of the castle isn't that great best thing was probably the paintings of worlds that didn't have one in the original Mario 64. Not much thought was put into it just a huge maze of the castle. The rooms dont make any sense theres way too many doors and long drawn out hallways. The cap music doesnt play at all and their are no worlds you can actually enter. The key turns into a star for some odd reason bowser doesnt speak to you and is super easy to defeat the bombs are right there in front of him. When you collect the star you jump out of a solid black painting and says go on a ghost hunt there arnt even any boos in the entire rom hack. At the very least make the key actually a key so that you can explore the rest of the castle.
