Episode #279 : Season 9 : The South Pacific
Hello Friends!
On this week's episode I explore Bora Bora and find out that Triteia is small enough to get to anchor free all around the island! We then untie and make way for the "Free Zone" on the northern side of the lagoon.

Best part was the live Polynesian music that tou walked by. By the way, I like the authenticity that tou bring to the table and some info that you describe while others only show the killing views. As sailors we know that those picture perfect locations are breathtaking but there is an entire logistic behind it. Thanks for sharing and Alohaaaa

Cool video. Nice details. The orange cruise ship tender, the strategically placed welcoming musicians, then the gift shop.... I recognize it all; I've been on a few cruises with my in laws. You're stuck on this huge ship, it's like being in a shopping mall where all the stores you might be interested in are missing. (The food gets really tedious, but it's limitless.) On board, you can buy the exact same stuff that was in that gift shop on Bora Bora, and you can only buy the exact same stuff. Every port of call is the same. (Except the 'terrible art' sale night on board.) On my first cruise with the family to Hawaii I thought, I'll just buy a ball point pen and note book when I'm on board. Impossible. The concierge offered me three sheets of paper - no more. And, sorry this is my only pen. Then the boat anchors or docks. On shore? 6 - 8 hours: 45 minutes to wait in line, exit the ship, walk to the van. Then the tour, hike the volcano, then back to the dock 90 minutes before the gangplank is pulled up. (You don't dare risk trying to walk a mile to the shops.) Two weeks of this. It was okay... Someone on shore is going to figure out what people on these ships might really want, they're going to make a lot of money until the cruise ship notices (and puts a stop to it.) It won't be cheap jewelry, colorful scarves and t-shirts. I have to sail to Bora Bora, you and Triteia have been there, my boat has even been there! I've got a photo of her (at anchor!) SE of the big squared off side of Mt Otemanu. The last cruise I went on 17 years ago, to Mexico. What I remember best is getting off and just walking around, saying hello to people, being nosy.

Lynn Pardee always thought small boats were better for cruising, especially for single handers. You should get a cheap bug sprayer and fill it with water to wash your anchor chain for when you bring bring it up. You can, also, use it to clean your deck or shower with on deck.

Snorkeling the cuts to the southwest of the airport was definitely some of the best we have seen in a while. I hope you have the opportunity to film the Manta in the lagoon, what majestic creatures. We wish you an amazing adventure here and everywhere the wind takes you.. New Sub.

You want to float your chain when you are in coral rich waters to keep the chain from damaging and getting wrapped around coral bommies. I first learned about it on SV Soggy Paws website. Here’s an article about the process: www.cruisingworld.com/how-to/hands-on-sailor-floating-your-anchor-chain/

The C25 owners association forums are an amazing resource, I understand the Facebook groups are good too but I do not Face the Book anymore so I can’t say for sure. Just a wealth of advice, information, and encouragement from folks who know sailing and know these boats is a click away, makes them a great choice to start with IMO. Fair winds!
