Exploring COLOR - Face Paint Fundamentals

Playing with color is one of the funnest things in the universe, and a huge part of a face painter’s job. Taking a little time to understand the colors on our brush, and how they relate to each other, can make a world of difference in our final designs.

Okay, so I actually got a degree in kitchen and bath design, and of course we studied color theory, but that is the best explanation of it I've seen. It's completely relateable. Thank you for sharing.

Love it!!! I love colour theory from back in the day at Art college and often it comes naturally. But I am going to cut out a colour wheel and put it in my kit to quickly remind me of my complimentaries. Thank you Laura 😘 (paintmebrighter)

I love you! You are so cute. And true about the colors and which are friends. Luckily I have a background also of graphic arts and have dealt with colors but you put it so perfectly in describing for FacePainting !! Awesome job.

I did not understand how blue and red are also friends with yellow on the first example

Red and yellow blend together and can make a red-orange-yellow fade, they work well together, blue and yellow can make a blue-green-yellow fade. Complimentary colours desaturate each other, like purple and yellow make a grey tone, so do orange-y red and blue. If you want to mix a purple you need a pure red or a pink colour and a preferably pure blue, though it is easier to just get a purple paint as it’s difficult to get vibrant.
