Exploring Consensus Between Ulema and Scientists | A debate with Pervez Hoodbhoy | Uzma Rumi

In 2020, a video of Madani Channel (an Islamic TV channel of Pakistan) went viral in Pakistan in which an Islamic scholar was teaching school children that according to Islam the earth is stationary. The video created a lot of hue and cry in public. At that time, I did an interview with Pervez Hoodbhoy for my program Bedari at DIN News to explore possibilities of creating harmony between faith and reason. Recently I uploaded a vlog on my KZfaq channel about theological basis of Ulema's hatred against science . And I think it would be of interest for my viewers to get a sense of how modern Pakistani intellectuals approach towards finding a balance of faith and science and a consensus between Ulema and scientists that we may find as an integral part of the scientifically developed world. That is why I am uploading this video for my viewers.
I am highly grateful for Mr. Mehmood Sadiq, Chairman DIN News who graciously allowed me to upload this video on my KZfaq Channel.

Just use some dictionary The word Earth doesn't just refer as Sphere but also ground topsoil. The verse they are talking about is. He has placed into the earth firm mountains, so it does not shake with you, as well as rivers, and pathways so you may find your way. Ms. Uzma Rumi, The title of your vlog is very contradictory. How can there be harmony between faith and science? Both of them are contradictory and their domain is also different. It is like the harmony between death and life! Since it is self-evident that when there is life, there is no death, and when there is death, there is no life. So to draw a correct conclusion, first correct your question from the cognitive, rational and logical aspect so that you do not suffer from any contradiction. According to me, your question or title is wrong and does not meet any of the above written aspects, the title of v.log reminds me of Saeeda Ghazdar's book "Nasif Gawahi". (Do not know why?)

Qaiser Ahmed Raja is a student of philosophy, science and religion. He is an ardent critic of misusing science as a tool to promote atheism. He loves having discussions with people of opposite views as the exchange of ideas can be an excellent source of knowledge. He holds that, essentially, exchanging ideas in a respectful way is the best way forward.

There is a difference between hatred toward Islam and pointing out ignorance. In this video, both speakers are trying to point out the ignorance and stubbornness of some clerics who, knowingly or unknowingly, cause great damage to Islam. The holy Quran repeatedly asks believers to 'think". "Do they not think?" "Do they not contemplate?" These are the messages that the holy Quran constantly gives to the believers. But our mullahs who have hijacked religion are as far from true Islam as heaven is from hell. No one is against religion or Quran. But if someone refuses to think and use their brain, then they are going against Quran and must be called a bunch of ignoramuses (jahil) not alims. The beauty of Islam is that it never stops believers from thinking and from exploring. In fact Allah says in Quran that He has made this world for believers to explore. The stubbornness of ignorant mullahs should never be defended. They are not just against science but also against the very spirit of the holy religion of Islam. May Allah guide us all toward the right path.
