I was headed down to Darlington SC to check out an old Newell and decided to stop by some significant locations in NASCAR history. I will definitely need to re visit north wilkesboro speedway during the daytime. I didn't really think to stop there until I was almost to the exit. Rockingham was quite a surprise and super cool to see in person. Check the next video to see the Newell!

Watching this video brought up another awesome memory from Years Gone by. When ARCA first went back to Rockingham , my wife and I took a road trip just to get the lay of the land since we cooked for the team and needed to be able to get food in and out of the track. We went to the front office by the rocks and met a nice gentleman named David who said since you are here in your car let's go out and go around the track. He opened up the gates for us and he was in the back seat and as we were going down Pit Road, his phone rang. He just said go out on the track. As I did I began to gather speed and became a little bit braver, and after about the 4th or 5th lap, my wife in the front seat kept saying wall, wall as we kept getting closer to the wall. After about five laps when David's phone call was over he said go ahead and pull off and we'll go back to the office. It was once in a lifetime experience and we absolutely loved it and watching your video brought back these wonderful and my memories from almost 20 years ago.

I had 4 permanent seats at North Wilkesboro during the 80's and 90's and it was the greatest. 43 haulers (more than today) didn't have any problems whatsoever driving in and out of the track 2 times a year, for 50 years, and that was before 421 was 4 laned.

Love that before four two one was 4 laned !!😉 same thing goes for down here. Hwy 87 and 421 merge a few times. Hwy 87 between sand trap and sprung leak can get down right brutal. We refer to 87 as the 2 lanes of hell 🔥.

Met Jr through sim racing , and he took us (sim racing friends) on a tour of the 8 shop back in 2006. Both crazy and very sad to see how the DEI showroom is practically a time capsule back to that era.

Man, you were right near me here. It was pretty cool when Top Gear came through filming back in 2012 I think it was. So much History around here. From the NASCAR stuff to Holman & Moody and what they did to assist with the GT40 project. Western North Carolina will give So Cal a run for its money as the Motorsport Capital of the USA!

I have a good friend that had a sign painting business back when that was still a thing. He got contracted with NASCAR to paint signs and walls for certain tracks. NWS was one of them, and I want to say the Rock was too. His work is still there. “Three words and a bird.”

That's cool man. 👍 My Grandad got transferred to Aberdeen so we would all load up and go to the Rock. I was diehard Waltrip fan. I would of loved going to Wilksborro and I would of loved going to JJ's old shop or eat breakfast with him and the men. That would of been awesome. You can't blame the track for Nascar getting all uppity and too big for their britches. They could of still hauled their cars there like Brewster Baker did. lol. But no, at least 30 drivers had to have their own big Newell or fancy bus, 43 18 wheeler's with backup cars etc,, etc.

In all honesty without being a butt kisser, your work has been steady improving. And those dogs will bite!!! Ask me how I know……lol they didn’t bite me but someone from the house told me not to get out and it was private property. Never made it to the barn. Good find man!! Have you ever been to Marion Cox Engineering. It is now a feed store between Johnsonville and Hemingway, S C. A friend of mine got the old sign off of the front a couple of years ago. The last time I was there there was still race stuff scattered around the up stairs and the ground floor. Marion Cox's car won the Daytona 500, I think it was 1956 with a 56 Ford. His wife still lives next door in the Brick house. He also ran the local tracks around here for many years with his son, always in the number 50 car.

@@Stapleton42 Yes Marion Cox was also one of the originals in NASCAR from the beginning. I think Dink Widenhouse drove for him for a while. Dink driving was the first person to wreck on the new Myrtle Beach track (Rambi) Speedway on opening night. He was the only car on the track trying to see how far he could back up going into turn 3. He pitched the car while still on the back straight and rolled it 13 times. He had hit a hole or a soft spot on the track. He was back the next weekend with a brand new car, He was the man to beat for 4 or 5 years driving for Marion I think.

They 🏁 race the ⏰ clock to get home. They are truly nature's GPS .

When those tracks opened, they didn’t have the big semi hauler. They basically had what you’re driving. Most people parked in fields away from the track and walked. They spread the revenue with the community, instead of big nascar demanding all the revenue. There’s a reason why I no longer go to, watch, or support nascar anymore. They’ve taken the working man’s sport, and taken the working man out of the sport.
