AFRICAN TIGRESS

AFRICAN TIGRESS

5 жыл бұрын

One of my favourite things to do when travelling is interacting with the local people, trying out their food and exploring the cities and villages. In this vlog I explore Machakos town which is the most famous town in Kamba land.
#Machakos, #Machakos Vlog, #Machakos County

Yes, the Muthokoi is basically a mixture of beans and corn, of which each the outer shell of each ear of the corn has been removed. It is a very simple but delicious vegetarian/vegan dish. On the menu I saw the price listed @ 7:47 of plain Muthokoi dish as 100 Kenya shillings (= 1 US dollar). Surely, you can't beat that price for a meal in a restaurant!

Though I got sent away for two terms to some boarding school in a very remote place in machakos to get me away from the big city. I never got to visit this town though I always wanted to. That school was in a very remote place that even off road vehicles could not access it during rainy season. One had to pay porters to help with the luggage and help cross swelled seasonal rivers. Party life made me beef pops using mum to be allowed back to the city day school I was from.

Zambia and Zimbabwe. We use samp (which is maize where coating has been removed and crushed to bigger grains than rice) and beans or dried maize and beans. Sometimes we add dried peanuts. I do not know the name of the dish or if it is local to both countries due to the mixture of cultures.
