Some hints: The big yellow directional signs mean you're not on a highway per se, it's a B-numbered street (Bundesstraße, they can very much not resemble highways and go through towns). If you're on an A-numbered highway (Autobahn), they are blue. Both can span most of the country. Also the little blue sign next to the highway was indeed a km-marker, and since it's blue also an indicator that it's on the Autobahn. Brick houses are more northern, but can be Rhur area or elsewhere as well, and of course there are plenty exceptions. Obviously close to the Netherlands it's generally flat, but it's flat in the north generally and also somewhat near Poland.

Aren't blue signs for the autobahn/motorway/autoroute/autostrada etc. universal across Europe, even the UK?

@@andyjay729 In Finland and Sweden, at least, motorway signs are green and most other signs blue.

5:58 Hey I'm from Baden-Württemberg and we and Bavaria pretty much being in the center of Europe on the routes towards the alps and the south are probably one of the most frequented transit areas in Europe so especially this time of year theres areas where you almost see more yellow and red plates than white ones (no joke) Because of our beloved dutch, british and belgian mofos going on vacation 😜 so if it looks very green and southern with yellow plates youre likely gonna be on one of the big transit highways

In Schleswig-Holstein we have the famous Swedish Mittelspurschleicher, pretty annoying having all these drivers around who have never been on a road with more than 3 cars lol

I'm from Germany and I got really good at the old Blurmany coverage, but this is quite something else. I haven't gotten to play much of it yet so my scores aren't the greatest Game 1 - 4,378 Game 2 - 5,926 Game 3 - 7,441 Game 4 - 6,635 It surprised me to see how many different types of utility poles there are.

5:45 that is a kilometer marker which can be found on the Autobahn, hence the blue color

The sign even said Kleingartenverein "Bodenreform" HALDENSLEBEN. That definetly sounds like a town in the area of Magdeburg.

A little hint that can be really helpfull: at 13:30 on the streetsign the letter ß looks a lot different than it would normally look. This kind of ß's you can only see in Berlin. Also the trafficlights in Berlin look different, but not everywhere in Berlin. Finally we can see more of Germany in geoguessr. Tbh it's really hard to regionguess even as a German.

Even being from Germany it is so hard sometimes. Quite often it really looks like vanilla Germany. Or you are in the totally wrong part of the country. I thought my country would be more diverse

Lovely to see Germany covered, i've been to Germany exactly once in my life, 11 years ago. My family and i were visiting friends in Poland, and one day we took a trip to a small german town right on the polish border, spent about 2 hours there and went back... So yeah technically i've been to Germany but definitely wanna return and explore more.

Awesome to see the new coverage! I'm going to Munich for Oktoberfest this fall, then staying in Berlin for a few days afterwards, and I couldn't be more excited. Great video as always!

Great vid, cool to see you explore the new coverage. As for Germany, I've been there as a kid, seeing the touristy sites (Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Neuschwanstein Castle stand out). Then in 2015 for a hacker conference (Chaos Communication Congress) in Hamburg, and then NYE in Berlin. Last trip was a few years ago to meet a friend in Berlin and travel north, stopping in Flensburg to check out a local brewery (and eat sausage by the shore while watching locals in traditional dress), before heading up to Denmark. Cool country to check out.

You'll be surprised to hear that the german community wasn't much better at guessing germany when the coverage was released a week ago. Apart from the regions we are from that is. So you did pretty good imo :) 3:11 Consider learning the guardrail meta. B-type normally isnt found in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate

The small blue signs with decinal numbers on them are indeed kilometer signs that indicate WHERE you are on the Autobahn but not on which one

Isn't Neuschwanstein actually closer to Milan than, say, Hamburg? I've heard of Germans jokingly calling Munich "Italy's northernmost city".
@Quallenkrauler
@Quallenkrauler 11 ай бұрын
@@andyjay729 Yes Füssen is at the feet of the Alps and Neuschwanstein is nestled into their first mountains, right at the Austrian border. It's much closer to Milan than Hamburg, there's just the thin bit of Austria in between the German and Italian border in Bavaria.

Interesting games. As a German with some knowledge of the map, I could reach a few more (near) perfect scores in the rounds where i could identify a place name on a sign. But some other locations were so generic that I could only make very vague guesses, and sometimes I was completely off.
@andyjay729

I've only been to Bavaria, since my dad had a business trip there, and we took a day trip to Salzburg, Austria, and then spent a few days in Berlin. Perhaps a better name for New England (which might be the region of the country I don't live in that I'm most familiar with, since most of my family came from there) might be New Germany because of how wooded that country is (except for the northwest, it seems); meanwhile the one time I've been to England I was surprised at how open the rural countryside is; there don't seem to be many dense forests remaining. Meanwhile of course just about all of the US east of Minneapolis seems to be one big forest outside the cities.

Pretty generic German suburbia. Can be anywhere near a major town. The crazy thing about this specific location: I have friends who live just a few blocks away. Still there was no way of recognizing it.

1:00 The scenery should also be a clue that it's in the north, or more likely northwest (the northeast, meanwhile, from pictures I've seen, is more heavily wooded). Germany starts out in the Alps in the far south and gets flatter the further north you go.
@BathTeth
@BathTeth Жыл бұрын
That's not really true. The middle of germany is very hilly. Everything north of Berlin/Hannover is very flat.
@alexj9603
@alexj9603 10 ай бұрын
This is a very vague clue. Generally speaking, about 2/3 of the country is covered with hills, while the north is rather flat, but even in the south you can find flat areas without any hill in sight.
