I came across your video because I read that in the new video game, Fallout 4, they used the Lustron House as a model for the houses in the game. They are intriguing. I mean metal walls, ceiling, roof etc with pocket doors and the like. Thank you for sharing.

It'd be great a house you don't have to paint that nobody can punch holes in? Awesome! But what about cellphones and hot summers?

I've heard the real downfall of Lustron homes was that the government got a lot of heat from the construction industry over them. As in you don't have to reshingle or put new siding on a steel house. Is that true?

Question....how did you remedy the heating problem? We have three in Michigan City, Indiana. We are looking into moving in one and that is my main concern the heat. Was there something you did to help circulate the heat throughout the house?

Thank you for sharing your home with us! My only request is that the editor increase the volume because it's hard to hear what is being said and then re-upload the slightly louder video. Love the home and the video is great otherwise!

How fire resistant would a home like this be?
@MessiahComing7 жыл бұрын
Very fire resistant. They were meant to be fire and termite resistant.

Heat in the ceiling? That's stupid. Heat goes up. Not down. From an energetic standpoint, the last place you want to put your main heating is in the ceiling or worse, the roof. What you want to do is heat the floor, and, if you can afford it, walls. Otherwise, we would've had radiators above the windows, not bellow them. I cannot believe anyone thought that it would be a good idea to heat a pocket above the ceiling. I cannot. That's too ridiculous.

My traditional stick built 1949 house has same. Forced air gas with registers at ceiling level. I guess the laws of thermodynamics worked differently back then but more likely they just wanted to build lots of them in an inexpensive way for returning GI’s.

It does work pretty good in summer with A/C coil working but yeah, in winter the ceiling is 80F and floor is like 50F. If I was going to stay here longer I would invest in radiant floor heat.

It's a shame that the guy before you redid the kitchen. Itd be nice if it was all original
