Hello Adam, just watched this Shugborough Hall film, I’m not surprised you felt tired you must have walked miles. What a long drive from the gatehouse, you begin to think ‘ Where is it, it’s miles!’. I once went to visit the Hall for a Hunt meet. It was fantastic like being whisked back in time, with all the riders in Pinks and very smart and all the dogs raring to get off. Not that I’m a fan of Hunts… that one was a drag-hunt, when a person takes the smell on a rag in front a good way and the dogs follow that instead of the fox, thankfully. Never the less it was exciting and I felt like I was an extra in ‘Downton Abbey programme’ ;) 😘

Thanks for finding another one of my little explorations. You were lucky to have gone along to a special day out there, I bet that was fun! Sounds very interesting. And yes, it was a bit tiring, but I'm used to a lot of walking so it wasn't too much of a problem. The (very) long drive from the gatehouse is really interesting at Shugborough. Quite a few interesting things on the left hand side down the embankment, and obviously the 'Choragic' type monument when just coming out from the trees. The old railway line running through the estate and the old railway tunnel entrances are also of interest. Shugborough really is a great place for many reasons. Thanks again for watching, Adam :)

You certainly got your exercise on this excursion; the place is HUGE ! It's also just fabulous. I sure wish I could've been along with you when you visited. Thanks for another great tour.

Thanks Georgia (I think that's maybe your name). It would be good to have some company occasionally on some of my walks/tours. This is indeed one of the larger estates I've been to. The Anson family were quite an important family during the 1700s in England I believe, especially within the Navy. It's a lovely estate for anyone in the region to visit. I really really appreciate your nice comments again. Take care, Adam :)

Would just like to say thankyou for bringing so many wonderful memories back for my dad and myself. When the fire happened my grandfather, father and uncle went into the burning building to rescue as many paintings and antiques as they could. My grandmother used to work in the Abbey for Lord and Lady Liegh cleaning and any general help. Lady Liegh was a fantastic horse woman and lost her leg due to a riding accident but still rode side saddle after too. Hope this gives you a little more to add to such a beautiful place again Adam thankyou x

I think you are correct in my opinion that they are passing places especially eg if a few packhorses were passing. Much like passing places for cars on narrow roads. Another use additionally could be a place to fish from. But the idea of such an expensive bridge to fish from seems unlikely given how shallow the water seems to be. I suppose the design would make the bridge storm-proof. Thank you for sharing this viewing. We arrived at Shugborough once when over the border in Shropshire and only got to see about half an hour's worth. Another visit is now likely thanks to your excellent and detailed commentary. Regards JB

Thank you for your thoughts about the bridge, it does seem the most logical explanation (maybe someone will come along and correct us one day). I hope you enjoy your re-visit and get to take in a bit more of the estate now you've seen how much there is. Thanks for watching and for your kind comments as they spur me on to continue making more videos. Adam :)

I wonder how long it would take for a horse-drawn carriage to get to the Hall from the gatehouses?
@AdamExploresBritain
@AdamExploresBritain Жыл бұрын
I reckon around 20 minutes or something around that figure. I had to cut a fair bit of the drive out of the video as it wouldn't have been good to have to watch the whole drive (I think, anyway). It's a really long drive from the gatehouses to be fair compared with a lot of estates I've been to. Thanks for watching my video, by the way. I always appreciate it that people are interested. Adam :)

Yes, and you can walk around his private apartments (since he has passed away). However, no filming of those or his photography inside. Very interesting though. He was a brilliant photographer :)
