Here's the behind-the-scenes vlog of my 6 days exploring the backroads of Iowa. I show a lot of small towns and places that weren't in the previous videos I released about Iowa. It was a fun trip that started out with a lot of rain and ended up with a lot of sun! There might be some laughs here and there, but mostly this is me wandering around trying to find some of the smallest and often forgotten places in the state. It was a blast!

Hi John, great to see a behind the scenes of the video's we have seen. Don't put yourself down, where you are talking is always interesting, irrespective of your preference.... kinda selfish of me I know, but I always enjoy them! Just a point of order, the picture 'Run to earth' was painted in 1892 by Heywood Hardy and is in a museum or gallery in Nuneaton. a market town in the Midlands of the UK. Run to earth as you said is correct, however in fox hunting parlance, the earth is the foxes lair and it means it has escaped the pack and gone underground (I used to follow a hunt in my younger days). Bohemia is also a region in Czechoslovakia, it would have been interesting to see some of the names at the cemetery, the original people resting there may have been truly Bohemian rather than avaunt guard artists. Honestly John, to hear your trials and tribulations of what appear to be easy runs on 'Ghost town' or 'Ten smallest' videos is interesting. You work hard on your KZfaq channel and its fascinating to see the 'nuts and bolts' of how the videos are made, thank you very much. Frank.

I checked to make sure of where I was talking about, but the Bohemian Cemetery is probably named that because the original settlers came from Bohemia, which is part of the Czech Republic in Europe. I knew it was around Germany somewhere because it played a factor in WW2.

Been a long time since I saw corn stalks stacked that way. I think you did great on behind the scenes #2. As long as I know you got to eat well and a good, safe, comfortable place to sleep I'm happy, thanks for including the prices. No need to see the food, lol I do like seeing the gas prices in all videos I watch, makes me a tiny bit happier with the prices in my area. Another good video, which was no surprise to me. Grown use to the wonderful videos you produce. But this one made me very homesick for my native Iowa. Your videos of driving and see those beautiful rolling hills, with the sometimes winding road running through it. Cross country drives away from the beaten path is so rewarding in Iowa as well as most other states. It is the "world" rhat I prefer to see. Got a laugh at your comment about how dark it was in that one small town at dusk. Reminds me of rural Iowa back in the 1950's. We had manual yard lights that we shut off when we came in, no high powered night lights. Street lights in towns were dim enough you didn't see them till you were within a few miles of town. But rhe night sky was so beautiful back then, when all the lesser stars were visible. Fun fact on the jail cells. They are displayed now outside, but they were inside of town buildings when in use. In the small towns around where I grew up, if the police station was too dmall to include the cage, it might be in the fire station, city hall, or maintenance shed.. All in all, I feel your first Iiwa trip showed a very good representation of rural Iowa and it's small towns. Plenty of nice country roads, snall towns, and history One trip I have done parts of, but never got fully into before leaving Iowa was exploring Mississippi River towns on both sides of the River from St. Paul to St. Louis. Much beauty and history. Just wasn't disciplined enough to get it done.

Enjoyed this one. Few comments: I do not mind seeing your mug on camera, can you get out of the car and record a short bit outside more? Stop stressing about recording every town in the same weather and light conditions - this adds variety and seeing what you encountered along the way is fun to watch. Plum thicket cemetery was likely behind the lake enclosed by the corn field. You can find the cemetery on FG and many have GPS coordinates to help find specific headstones. Take a few flying lessons before you go to Alaska. I think it could really enrich the experience of flying in the backcountry.

Thank you! Good info. I get out of the car whenever I do a profile in the regular videos. These drive-throughs I don’t have the time if I’m gonna get accomplished the main reason for the trip. But like I said I’d love to go back and revisit someday!

Well if you don’t have time to stop, perhaps there is a way you can edit in a bit more of the areas you are driving through than the interior of the car. However this may be easier said than done, lol. Okay I confess, the dirt spot on the back window was distracting.

I usually only stop and eat dinner on these trips as breakfast and lunch are done quickly or at the hotel. Only one was the Stuart bar and grill. Nice place!

That painting is fox hunting. Still looks the same today unfortunately. "Run to earth" means you've forced the prey to literally "go to ground" i.e as in the painting, the pack of hunting dogs have chased a fox back to it's den, in the earth. Rich dudes on horses will now send in terriers, the fox will be ripped apart, successful hunt bravo. Ahhh the beauty of English tradition 😕. Wonderful video, tho 😊 thanks.

There are very good Motel 6 motels in the country. It is likely the knowledge of the best Motel 6 motels come as a result of a word of mouth. Ironic some immature rotten apples treat any Motel 6 as if it was a place to trash. In other words, they do not care.

No pictures of food! I went to Antarctica last year and before I went I tried looking at KZfaqs. You go all the way to Antarctica and all you show is your food, the airport, the bus taking you to the shop, etc etc etc. Useless!
