Thinking back to those times I can say it was the best advertisement for licensed software...

"Gold XP Windows" isn't bad engrish, it's just a byproduct of the author of the bootleg, who appears to be Arabic. English uses Subject, Verb, Object ordering in grammar, but Arabic uses Verb, Subject, Object. The lack of plurality (Window vs Windows) is another thing, plurality in words isn't common in many languages. English speakers would say Windows XP Gold. Arabic speakers would say Gold XP Windows. Getting the sentence structure correct when learning different languages is hard. English is the rare exception where you can butcher and mutilate it to hell and it still mostly makes sense. That doesn't often work when going to different languages, where it can end up as utter nonsense or you saying something completely different by juxtapositioning words. It doesn't excuse the awfulness of the bootleg though.

Fun fact, if you add the options "extract all..." or "extract to \{filename}\" for winrar to your windows context menu, the winrar free trial notification never pops up at all, and you can use it indefinitely without even the popup.

Always fun to see that 200s PC at work. Still shocked I found it in such immaculate condition.

Real and funny story: a friend of mine used to work for a big UIX company back in the 2000s and early 2010s. The company basically collaborated with other AAA companies to help them create the most intuitive GUI for their products. This company constantly received applications from design newcomers, as some positions could be done online, from a distance even back then; but the company had a very strict and particular rule: automatically reject applicants from India and Arab countries. It wasn’t a racial thing, mind you, but it was a rule almost solely based on these bootlegs and the very heavy handed and tacky design language so popular in those regions back then.

I did actually play Mario Forever back in 2008, probably downloaded from a shovelware game website. It's essentially an (unauthorized and uncredited) clone of the Super Mario All-Stars version of SMB, but also using music from Super Mario World in some levels.

These re-skinned Windows editions bring back memories. I remember back in the day when Vista came out, I've installed a Vista re-skin on my PC with Windows XP x64 Edition. So it would look like Vista but still be XP. Had it for a long time, until Windows 7 came out. I actually used to make kind-of bootlegs myself, Windows 7 installations with all updates to date and a bunch of software (Office stuff, archivers, media players, etc.) pre-installed. No re-skins or anything, just software. Later did that with Windows 10. When Microsoft switched to using WIMs for installation (since Vista), it became incredibly easy to make custom Windows builds. All you had to do is install what you want on top of a clean OS, run sysprep and create a WIM image of the disk, which you would then copy to a Windows DVD image, replacing the stock install.wim.

I love how maximal all these are. It's the not so professional, calculated design experience I really miss in OSes and software. I don't care for the avengers though.

I salute your commitment... i was in PAIN, looking at the monstrosities... I've been rolling my own since the NT4 days and i think these will give me PTSD... I always thought Luna was "Windows Toys'r'Us" but now i feel like it was a somber, good taste theme... Anyway, thumbs up for the multiboot one. Hiren's was and still is nice to have, (depending on timeline) (Norton) Partition Magic/Acronis Disk Director, Norton Ghost/Acronis True Image and later Kaspersky's own "AV bootdisk". Shame that all these bootlegs seem to go "form over function" for the most part. Like they were put together by 14 year olds :P

I worked as a tech in a repair shop for a few years in the mid to late 2000s. I've seen some real bloated bootlegs. They were extremely prevelent during the XP, Vista, Seven days. I ran Malwarebytes on a fresh install of 7 and it was full of Trojans and trackers. I wouldn't install that on anything with data I care about on it, nor would I use the internet with it. Hell I wouldn't let it get close to an Ethernet cable

About the Mario Forever game bundled with Gold XP 2009, I actually have a later version of it (v3.0 instead of v2.16). The game is now maintained by the successor to Buziol Games, which is called Softendo. And yes, it IS a Polish game.

these are all official, I have no idea what your talking about. I use Windows Angry Birds 7 every day and I love it and I'm never going to switch (unless of course they finally release Windows Angry Birds 11)

I still had XP in like 2010-2012 or so and I remember it feeling so cool when I installed a third party app that gave me the Windows 7 aero theme. Really made the PC feel fresh even though it probably really slowed it down because IIRC it had a single core Athlon 64 and some horrible low end ATI GPU that I had to buy because the original GPU blew up

This feels like a re-hash of the Ampdan1 video YEARS ago when exploring the same exact bootlegs lol. But that's not a bad thing. Miss those guys.
