The Baptismal Site of Jesus Christ, also known as "Bethany Beyond the Jordan" (Al-Maghtas), is a significant religious and archaeological site located on the eastern bank of the Jordan River. The area consists of two main archaeological sites: Tell Al-Kharrar, also known as Elijah's Hill, and the area of the churches of Saint John the Baptist near the river. The site is also associated with the life and ascension of the prophet Elijah & it was designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
