Hello and welcome back! Thank you for joining me for another Scottish adventure.
This week we explore the area around the picturesque village of Comrie in Perthshire & Kinross - walking through the woodland to find the Deil's Caldron, climbing Dun More hill to the Melville Monument & striding through a sea of bracken to find inspiration.
Materials used:
Windsor & Newton watercolour pad - 300 gsm, cold pressed paper
Royal & Langnickel 'H' pencil
Dyffle Watercolour Pens
Windsor & Newton 'Cotman' round watercolour brushes - size 0 & 00

As I watched another fabulous video of Sarah and Jack Spaniels, I thought of the many things that I love about this channel. Here are but a few: The lovely tone of voice when Sarah directs the ever attentive Jack. Jack as he dashes ahead of Sarah but always pausing to wait up for her. Jack and his many, many sticks. The history that only adds to the beauty of these far away locations. Sarah taking the time to zoom in on minute details of something that has caught her eye. Jack's ever loving stare that is perfectly captured for all-time. As you can see, I could go on and on. Oh yes......Willie, the camera, drone and musical component that ties it all together. 🙏💕🐕🇺🇸

That’s a shame about the large number of trees lost due to storms. The surroundings were still stunning on the way, and at the monument, to which you walked. The painting turned out beautiful, and it’s a nice idea you have, to paint all stages of the fern….such a fascinating and pretty plant.

Absolutely love the location you went to today. It is so amazing how beautiful the colors are even though all is not bustling green. It makes colors seem more spectrum than mainly one color. As a younger child my parents were always taking me and my brother and sister out camping. I can think of at least 5 states we lived in that they took us camping in. Once we were in a state park in Missouri and had been there for a day or two when suddenly in the middle of the day a storm blew up and a tornado came through removing most of the tents from their sites to a field at the entrance of the camp grounds lol I was 8 or 9 but as Daddy was helping families gather up their belongings and putting their camp sites back together again. I had rounded the other kids up for a treasure hunt game of find the tent stakes/anchors lol What was so funny of it all is we found about 500 stakes and only needed about 250 for all the tents lol. We were lucky because Daddy said we were going to put our tents up in a new site we hadn't used before, I think because friends families were joining us and we needed more area. But our site was left just as it was before the storm. No one was hurt even though the camp area looked flattened but all of the families were down on the creek fishing and swimming, God spared us all. But the storms are God's way of clearing out the old to bring in the new. Sometimes the things we do that we think are improving the nature is sometimes harming it but we don't realize it until 50 to 100 years later but it always amazing seeing an area come back to life. If there were trees there before the forest floor had not seen sunlight but with trees gone the sun can it the floor where the sunlight activates all those seeds who were hidden in the shadows and life comes back. Sometimes in different forms, sometimes in the same but it is so exciting seeing the new growth and prospect of what is to come. I remember in Louisiana there was an area hit by a hurricane but because a land mass had been flooded and cleared of trees when the earth started greening up again they discovered 4 species of flowers that were thought to be extincted. On of our leaders in Girl Scouts was one to find a rare lost species of a Jack in the Pulpit, at 11 you don't realize what it means to recover something like that but now nearly 50 years later it is really amazing of a feat. I know there are many flowers and plants no longer around like they were when I was a kid and it is really sad. So it makes me appreciate nature so much more. I am so glad I taught my son to love the outdoors, I loved trying to help him earn different Boy Scout Merit badges lol Like the Bird study badge haha He was like Mother, we live on the lake and I can only do 25 even though I can identify about 100. I look like a braggart saying I have 4 different species of woodpeckers, Bald Eagles and 8 different species of Humming birds .. so I am only going to do one of each to not sound so pompous hahaha. He was a great son, I am so proud of all he had done, by 14 he had his Eagle award and went on many trips around the country with Boy Scouts... Sorry, he was 26 when I lost him 5/2020 in an accident, 6 months after I lost my Daddy at 83yo... when I get to hurting like I am right now (a long story for another time hahaha I really need to finish my book lol) I get to babbling like this and do not realize how long they are until I hit send and then it is way too long but my therapist told me to leave them because someone will enjoy them or need them or it will trigger someone else to have a good memory come back to them. We don't know who we touch out here in the crazy world of the web. I am in utter joy watching and seeing parts of Scoutland that I would never be able to travel to or the UK or Australia or.... ya know what I am saying. I love your painting it is so calming and realistic when you are done.... if I did it people would think it was a map of some city suburb or a bird feather lol Thank you for such a great time with Jack, His utter joy makes it so exciting too. God Bless you and keep on taking us on these journeys and keep showing us the great talents God has blessed you with. Love you deerly!

Well Mr Spaniels looks extra waggly and hyperactive in this one! He must love new places. That scenery is fab and those fallen trees will probably grow some fabulous fungi in the coming years! Lichen is so special. The woods behind where I live (despite being surrounded by housing and busy roads) has some of that scraggly lichen in the low point of the reserve where there is a reed bed. Must be cleaner air in that area! Another brilliant bit of painting too! I love brown bracken!

Sarah, Back in the seventies I lived in New Jersey , Windsor and Newton had there main U.S. distribution center and offices in Secaucus. and I used to drive there from the Jersey Shore to pick up supplies. I did water colors and oils and still have my Series 7 brushes including a number 12. Their worth their weight in gold these many yeras later. I often used 200 and sometimes 300 Arches paper, but for your painting you need a fine surface. Supplies are so expensive today but W&N has colors like genuine ultramarine blue and others which only a few other houses produce. I love your TRFOMPE L, L'OEIL style. Cheers, Rik P.S. This walk looked absolutely amazing, every week has been beautiful scenery and wildlife, and just pure peacefulness feeling, I really must get out and explore new places more, my dog Buster also loves puddles and sticks and long walks, it's funny though - he doesn't like moving water, he'll tiptoe in and have a paddle at the edge like an old lady, but doesn't like to be soaked 😂 Your fern turned out beautifully, such a contrast to the colours of the green one. Another really fantastic video. Thanks! The small Nissen Hut at 6:30 looks like an air raid shelter, so maybe it was? It reminded me of the huts at the nearby Cultybraggan POW camp. The POWs were welcomed in the village, and I wonder if they might have done some work on the path (and perhaps built the hut for shelter and to store tools etc)? Thanks so much for all your wonderful videos. They're such a joy to watch!

That was one very happy dog on that walk. I don't know why I thought your country was never effected by bad storms. It has to be going on all over the world. It will take a lot of workers to clean that mess up; but, it must be done to protect the living trees and plants left. I have never seen coins driven into wood like that. At first I thought the coins were some sort of fungus I had never seen before. That light green/gray/white lichen (growing on the tree) reminded me a little of the Spanish Moss (that I viewed growing on trees in the deep South here in the U.S.A.) That looked a lot like the oxalis (shamrocks) growing out of the hole in that dead tree. I grown plants that looks a lot like that (oxalis/shamrocks) in flower pots every year here in Kentucky. They would look much better growning out of a rotting log with moss. Thank you so much for this video. I find this so relaxing and educational. Your painting is beautiful. I turn my mistakes into somehing else (like a tiny bug).

Thanks Arvetta! I don’t think that the storms we get are anywhere near the awful ones that some countries get, but we usually get the tail end of them with some extreme weather, especially winds. A lot of homes were without power for about a week after this one! Sarah x

Such a beautiful walk and the waterfall looked lovely. I really liked the monument, I have a liking to things like that for some reason. Would love to visit the Wallace Monument one day, it looks stunning and I notice it is not too far from where you were today, have you been there at all? Once again, beautiful work on the painting I love watching the process of it being done and could easily watch it in real time. Congratulations on reaching 1K subs, it is really deserved 🎉
