I love Isonzo. I come back to it every once in a while. In general, at least on the moments that I play, there are about two decently filled servers, which is more than enough to have a good time. Sometimes about five players on each side, with the rest bots, can give good matches as well.

Yeah, like "War of Rights" I struggle to consider the game "dead" so much as "small." The times where I play, there's usually a handful of active servers, anywhere from 2-6. Even late at night, I can usually find a game full of other actual players.

Verdun, Tannenberg and Isonzo are three very different games. The gunplay and such is similar but the maps are very different as they are meant to represent different styles of warfare during WWI. Verdun was really popular for a long time as it was the first but when the devs announced the sequel Tannenberg, it split the fanbase as it was a standalone game. It had some gameplay improvements but it was pretty similar so maybe it should've been DLC. Ever since Tannenberg released the games playerbase dwindled as it basically got split. I'd say Isonzo is different enough in some ways to warrant a wholely separate game but in others... not so much. I know the devs love the games though. I did beta testing on Tannenberg and the devs care the most about historical authenticity. Verdun was made because they wanted to make a fully historically accurate game about WWI, or at the very least feel like one. I dont know if it is active or not, but they had a discord server where they would regularly just talk about history. I dont think the dev team is huge. Games are great but its a shame about the playerbase size.

Strange that you didn't hear about Isonzo until now as the game got headlines on national videogame publications because of Forte Corbin, the owners of the actual place disapproved, for some reason, of the game's inclusion of the location. It sparked a decent amount of discussion, mostly people calling the owners of the fort and museum a bunch of clueless boomers.

I actually remember playing Isonzo for a fair bit of time. I also played Verdun aswell. Both great games but the biggest issue is that it just get's repetitive. When isonzo first came out with in 20-30 hours of the game I was racking up 80-100+ kills each game with the Officer or Marksman class. While being at the top of the leaderboard was fun after some time it just felt like the more experienced you got at the game the less interesting it got. But when you start fresh something about being cannon fodder and fearing for your character's life is what made the game fun from the start. but again my biggest issue is that once you learned the mechanics, artillery calling spots and how to overpower the entire team you become an overpowered killing machine which defeats the whole purpose of re-creating the horrors of WW1. Although this is technically not the developers fault I can't help but point out this is one of the reasons why I stopped playing the game.

Hey Rye, theres a fantastic game on steam that launched back in 2019. Its called Infinity Battlescape. Its one of the best massive PvP or PvAI space shooters ever created. Unfortunately it only launched with about 300 players or so and died within a month. The most interesting fact about this game? It was originally titled Infinity: The Quest for Earth and was envisioned as a space MMO waaaayy back in 2006. This was long before Star Citizen was even an idea. So technically, people have been waiting for nearly 13-14 years for it, only to be DOA.

Easy Red 2 has just a small audience, it's game made by a single dev that constantly updates the game since 2020 and considering the state from 2020 the game has improved a lot - it's has less junk and whole animations got changed this year Game even got 3 DLCs, has full mod support and map editor - there's a lot of community maps and missions to download, most of them are shovelware (missions without page preview) but good missions are good. Plus game is very cheap, I recommend buying Normandy DLC from the start because this campaign is a very top quality compared to other ones, the rest if you want to support the dev or you want to do some community maps

I've been on and off of "Isonzo" since day one. I find that most new players leave because it's not fast-paced, run and gun action. It's true to WWI in that you have to rush the enemy, take massive losses, and somehow wrestle away a capture or bomb by pure grit and dedication. The officers also make a world of difference, bad officers lead to losing more often than not. And if the scouts and officers aren't working in conjunction with one another, it severely hampers the team's ability to advance, or hold a position. If people communicate like they do in "Hell Let Loose" they often find themselves absolutely overwhelming the enemy. But even if nobody is talking, it's still fun to get crazy and ruin somebody's day with a bayonet to the chest, or a climbing pick to the head. I'm about to hop back into Isonzo again for the first time in two months, I don't think I'll ever actually put the game down. I hope you and your Discord community can put together some servers and just have an absolute time of it like us veterans do.

Yo, big ups for covering urban terror. Most servers are empty, but there are at least 2 ctf servers that are constantly full, and many other servers which fill and empty throughout the day either by chance or by pre-scheduled play times. The recent tourney you mentioned had over 4k games played in it. 5.0 Is coming. The devs are an all volunteer staff with all the usual other commitments, so it's slow going, but the game is currently in closed alpha testing. Also the jumping you mentioned is just the tip of the iceberg for UrT movement. It's the movement that has kept me playing all these years, the more you progress at learning the deeper the gameplay goes.

There’s a really cool game called ‘’memories of mars’’, it’s unfortunately completely dead but it’s a weird survival game on mars. It looks good and plays alright, it’s a shame it’s been dead for years. You should give it a try.

Hey cool, I was the guy that stood on your head in PVK2. The one day I decided to try playing after almost a year of inactivity. If only I knew you were up to. I was a beta tester for 3 years and took some of the screenshots on the store page. Cool of you to give the game attention.

Oh I remember Tribes Ascend. Dude the gameplay was soooo good. I really loved how the Play button was grayed out just right to keep you waiting in anticipation of maybe possibly pressing it one day. I uninstalled shortly after and forgot the game existed.

In PVK2 you get the treasure chests and take them to your base, then the number on top goes up slowly until you get a certain point and it will determine the win. The more chests you have the faster the number goes up.

Pirates, Vikings and Knights 2... I used to play it all the time. I think one of the problems is that the updates to it just came out too slow. When it launched there was only 1 player type for each faction with more promised... Then those updates never really came and people stoped playing. Then those updates did come but I think too late, I went back in to check things out but even then themplayer count was very low and not like when the game first launched. It had a lot going for it and a unique idea... Also I'll say it again, you should check out Return to castle Wolfenstein Enemy Territory. I have no idea if people play it anymore...

When I got into PC gaming back around 2011 I remember hearing about tribes and how good it was. I tried Ascend around when it came out but being a noob to PC gaming a family computer that couldn't really "run" the game so much as show me slideshows of this game called Tribes. Of course I dropped it then and there but it's always sat at the back of my mind knowing how beloved the game was and how unique of a role it played in the FPS scene. I'm glad to hear that there's a new game coming out for all of the fans who stuck around.

You should show Quake Champions in one of these videos! It's almost dead, and it's basically the last Arena FPS in which you can still find games without going on Discord (though it takes a while). The game was kind of sabotaged by id and Bethesda, but it was a passion project made by og Quake devs, and it's really good, it uses the Hero Shooter framework in order to have old style Quake but with the movement types of a bunch of different Arena Shooters (including Quake World, Quake 3A, Quake 3 CPMA, Quake 4, and sort-of Unreal Tournament)

Oh man, randomly clicked this & seeing Tribes Ascend really sent me back. It somehow feels like it was older than 2012, but that's mostly because 2012 was a special year in its own way, where a lot of my time was filled between WoW & Tribes. Good times :')

Looking on these games and people who play in them I'm feeling a strong sense of hopelessness, these games feel like a limbo for dead souls. But on the other side that looks kinda wholesome how people are able to enjoy games that no one knows about

Pirates, Vikings and Knights II (PVK II) is a great game. I've played it basically since it came out and before that there was a short-lived original PVK. The player base sort of goes in cycles. Some years back we had a "french invasion" where some French dude apparently made the game popular for a while and we reached the all-time high of an average of 60 active players most of the day. It was quite chaotic. Otherwise it often depends on new updates which will draw in some of the old-timers who've drifted off and possibly some newcomers if they're told about it. Occasionally it's been revived a bit by tournaments or even clan deathmatches. If you log in at the right time you might find a server with around 24 active people still.

Cool highlight of lesser known games! I really like the format of exploring less known or "dead" games. Two things to point out, you wrote Isonzo was released in 2000 in the intro title card, but it should be 2022 and the timeline reads "aanso" instead of "Isonzo" :D
