🔥EPIC!🔥 After 14 yrs since last flight, started the trek to knock off the rust and bore holes in the atmosphere again. Your videos are so encouraging. To experience flight, more importantly to share that experience. ❤️🔥😎 Pre-preflightreview last week at KBDN, amazing how much “pilotage” retained in 14 yrs, 👍😎 also not surprising how much rust accumulated😳😬, in particular pattern work in a busy non towered airport. Looking forward to making some of these eastern OR, ID, UT back country flights.

Another great adventure Todd! How are you liking the NR prop compared to the WW?
@GravityKnightFlying
@GravityKnightFlying 3 жыл бұрын
I like it better. It runs as smooth or smoother in normal flight, although when you slip it or do something to mis-align the prop from the oncoming air, you then feel the "pulsyness" of only having 2 blades. It also has that NR whine or hum at around 5400ish engine rpm that is kind of interesting. Sounds way better from the ground from what I can tell. Impressively lightweight. Good mix of pull and cruise with the 2 blade. A bit longer would be even better. 3 blades do pull quite a bit harder from what I'm told... but I'm sure cruise would take a hit.

Another would be to see how all the stuff is packed into the back of the plane and what you take with you. A nice video otherwise and great sound track. Just subed and look forward to seeing more.

Would 500 ft /min climb be enough ? I don’t know how high these strips are either ? Thanks
@GravityKnightFlying
@GravityKnightFlying 2 жыл бұрын
If you were getting 500 out of these strips it would be fine for most of them, but a lot of factors there (climb angle, turn radius required etc.). What are you flying? Johnson creek is 5000ft high. Many of the others are around that, some are lower. There are a few that are higher in the 7k range up there, but Wilson Bar for example is 2300ish. So they vary. Density altitudes can be pretty high at times, like in this video it was unusually hot up there.
@onthemoney7237
@onthemoney7237 2 жыл бұрын
@@GravityKnightFlying thanks for replying it’s all very interesting. It would be awhile before I would get out there. You will laugh but I fly a Pietenpol two seater with a 100 hp corvair engine at 0 to 1000 ft MSL I might get 600 ft per min or a little more It does pretty good at 3000 but I would have to do some experiments first if where talking 5 to 7000 plus density .’ I might need a bigger engine what do you think ? Thanks 👍
@GravityKnightFlying
@GravityKnightFlying 2 жыл бұрын
@@onthemoney7237 You have the right idea about doing plenty of testing beforehand. Load it up heavy on a hot day and see what you get at high DA in a safe environment. What does the plane weigh empty? Time of day can make a huge difference in a situation like that (temperature). Keeping it as light as possible when in the mountains is big. Letting the wind help you etc. Hot afternoon in the mountains with a tail wind could be disastrous. A lot of those strips up there could be scary with a low climb rate, but some of them are lower like Moose Creek for example. If you took off on a cool morning, it would be a whole different situation than coming out of Johnson creek with a tail wind in the afternoon. Stuff like that. But I would stack the deck against yourself on a safe runway and do a little testing if you can and see what you have. More HP is always better, unless it comes at the cost of a lot of extra weight. Keeping them light goes a long ways too. But you can work around being a little underpowered with utilizing the conditions. I spent a lot of effort and money to have enough power to claw through about anything at any altitude, but it was quite expensive and involved to do so.
