In a spirited debate, Roland Martin rumbled with The Young Turk's founder Cenk Uygur over President Joe Biden's 2024 presidential run and what could be Progressive's playbook to taking over America.
Cenk Uygur's new book, Justice Is Coming: How Progressives Are Going to Take Over the Country and America Is Going to Love is available on Amazon 👉🏾 amzn.to/46SuBoB
"InJustice Is Coming, The Young Turks founder Cenk Uygur presents two ideas that counter everything we hear from pundits and politicians on a daily basis: one, progressives are correct on all issues, and two, America is actually a very progressive country. Millions of us know that we are a part of something larger, a movement that is already transforming Washington."

What it ought to illuminate is that the political system itself needs to change. That is something that can be lobbied for. If Americans want change they need to start a movement for that change

@@cbrfast you'd need to start with cross channel cooperation, making a bigger platform, rallies and getting the word out to young people that they must go vote. That's all short term, you'd also need MSM coverage and money to advertise. Long term change would only come about with a strategy to have mam reform so the likes of fox news can't spread lies and propaganda and chance from the current system to proportional representation. All that would require a candidate that not only would have the ability to bring all facets of the left together to unite but also a squeaky clean record. Problem is Cenk is doing this wrong and at the wrong time. He is actively turning off voters and confusing the issue, because the only issue right now is keeping trump and the republicans out. If he gets in all he'll will break loose. It's no good him constantly putting biden down, he is basically trashing the only chance there currently is and imo that's unforgivable. Any other time but not now. Roland is a very level headed guy and sees the pitfalls, Cenk would need to win over people who are far less accommodating or level headed. I hope change can take place starting with grass roots, with unions lobbying coming together finding the right people, culminating in what would be better as another party entirely! Just not NOW

I would say that. However, Roland, along with his panels in past shows, have made it abundantly clear that they are not really on the same side. Roland and his panels have made disrespectful remarks about the progressives that have come on his show as well as those who haven't, all the while giving less flack to establishment dems. They continue to question the legitimacy of the progressive platform and those that represent it. He and his panels have taken the same approach of attacking the progressives as the liberal media and the establishment dems. Roland seems the talk out of both sides of his mouth when it comes to the progressives.

An interesting debate that unfortunately leads nowhere, because Roland and Cenk completely cancels each other out. I understand Roland asking the tough questions and being a tough interviewer, but incidentally he's doing what mainstream media does: playing gatekeeper. Whenever a Progressive runs, they are immediately held to a higher standard than any other candidate and have to jump through hoops to prove they're worthy of a nomination, whereas no matter how mediocre the Establishment candidate is, they're immediately assumed to be worthy of the office.

Heard different about Democrats obeying Democratic president. That they challenge them privately, publicly and enough will vote against their agenda to block bills whereas the Republicans may be at each other privately, not publicly and will close rank to get bill passed even if they personally are against it or that particularly version of it in hopes of getting other bills passed. So yes. It may come down to brain type as to how people see things, how they choose to see things, how they "move" through decisions, manipulate, gaslight, coat ride, go out of their way to be relevant in situations that is so so irrelevant to them to make them think they matter more when they matter enough already but situation or persons gilot in their heads to tell them they're made of glass.

Who expects a person elected into office to not change somewhat especially when they owe no one in congress any political favors to have helped them get elected. Like mentioned AOC. Media liking her helped her get into office and that alone made her enemies, excluding those who said she did not have enough experience for the position she was elected to. Why wouldn't she change? We saw some of the jabs and pecking at her publicly. Who can't imagine or have an idea of what was done privately to make her fail, to punish her for "being there", in their group, in their circle, "up too close" to "them". Trying every which way they can to get her to quit? The manipulations. The sabotages.

I’m only 20 mins in and I’m so enjoying this discussion. The good banter back and forth is refreshing. Now both bring up great points. This brings me to the realization that two things can be right at the same time. Let’s be real I’m nowhere near excited about this particular election but it will be one of the upmost importance. Joe Biden in his heart of heart really wants to enjoy the rest of his life PERIOD, however right NOW he is the closest person to beat Trump. What is needed is a vibrant person that is just as loud and noisy as Trump and have this “I don’t give a….” and say what he or she feels and attack. The time for politeness has gone out the window. Donald Trump has ushered in ignorance as popular. We have to look at Donald’s base supporters which are uneducated, ignorant, racist, deplorable individuals…..of which Trump has described himself at times. I don’t know if the Democratic Party base is overwhelmingly ready for that type of person just yet. I think that’s Roland’s point. Because the Democratic base is a mixture of progressives and moderates you have to find that middle of the road candidate and I don’t think we are there quite yet. Unfortunately we have to build from the bottom and not start at the top people. The roof isn’t good if the foundation is unstable.
@cbrfast
@cbrfast 6 ай бұрын
The crux of the problem; the Democratic Party will not allow us to have a choice. If Cenk is correct and Biden cannot beat Trump, why aren't we have a primary where we the people can decide who is the best democrat to take on the fascists? Democrats are doing themselves a disservice by not demanding a primary, Biden shouldn't get an automatic nomination.

There’s a big difference between a thirst for keeping power, and a hunger for gaining it. Progressives don’t have a hunger for power, because a large part of the progressive/democratic party have never had the kind of power that the GOP is afraid of losing. People generally don’t fight very hard for something they don’t particularly want. People on the left desire equality more than power.

Every time Roland Martin interviews progressives, he asks the same questions that have barely anything to to do with the policy platform. He always asks how are you going to win. And he harps on it for the majority of the interview. He is always trying to sink the progressive platform.

Exactly. It's quite clear that Roland is on the side of the establishment Democrats. I don't see how people in the comments who aren't even living close to the living standards as the average white person, continue to act as if Joe Biden is an answer. BIden doesn't care about Black people. The average white wealth is 10 times that of Black wealth. Black people were massively disproportionately affected by COVID compared to whites, latinos, and Asians. 52% of ALL homeless *families are Black. A vote for Biden is literally a soul sacrifice of another Black person and Roland is willing to allow those sacrifices because why? For potential job prospects?

*@insuremepam* Yet Biden can do it through executive order without the use of the House or Senate. The only people he has to worry about are in the Supreme Court with a giant majority of Republicans. Just like with the Anit-Asian hate crime bill and the billions of surplus going to other countries for wars to fix stock portfolios.
