If Ozzy and Sharon weren't gonna make a ton of money from it they won't do it . And Sharon feels the need to try and protect Ozzy from all the bad things he did to not just anyone but also to Randy .Ozzy got crazy drunk and went off on his band members all the time including Rhoads . I mean he punched Randy in the face and called him a ungrateful little shit when Randy told Ozzy he wanted to leave the band and go to UCLA to get a classical music degree . Ozzy couldn't be happy or at least support for his best friend ? No instead sucker punching Randy and shunning him for wanting to better himself. What kind of friend acts like that to another friend . especially one that help bring you back from the musician graveyard .Let's be real back when ozzy was first trying to put together a band after being fired from black sabbath he found it hard to get anyone already seasoned and accomplished . In other words guys that had already made a name for themselves in the music industry . In the beginning he wanted Gary Moore on guitar and he said no . he wanted Tommy Aldridge and he had just got outta the Pat Travers Band and had started working with Gary Moore and wouldn't play in a Ozzy led band .and the other reason he finally did end up taking Ozzy up on his offer after Bob and Lee got fired was because he wanted the chance to work with Randy .had it been anyone else Tommy said he wouldn't have joined Ozzy . was Randy's idea to bring in Rudy Sarso after ozzy fired Bob so actually Randy was like the biggest reason for Ozzy having that much success early on and Ozzy and Sharon knew this would all come out in the documentary if they got on board in this .nor had they done their own story about Randy . They know that all the other members knew about Ozzys treatment of themselves and figured it would be in their best interest to never do one .Rhoads family had to sue the Osbornes for Randy's royalties and they ended up settling out of court with the Osbornes which also came with the stipulation that they wouldn't talk publicly about things that related with the time the Randy was in the band . And if you think or go check on it they never have gone public with anything personal about Ozzy and Sharon . This was basically hush money and was quite shocked that Randy's mother Dee went along with this but she did along with his brother and sister .

@@johnhagan582 the one thing Ozzy had going for him after being fired from Black Sabbath was a built in fan base, he was extremely fortunate to have the song writing team that somehow came together, like winning the lottery. But yeah, they protect themselves at all costs, and another thing about Randy Rhoads is he didn’t have the insecurities that Ozzy and Sharon and EVH had, he wasn’t hung up on the fortune and fame.

As someone who knew Randy well and saw him twice a week when we had time. I took lessons at his house so he could get away with only charging me 5 bucks. That was We’d. On Thursdays we would meet at Musonia and walk across Lauren Canyon to a Mexican place that Randy loved. He talked about Eddie once that I remember and I had to ask him about it. He said yeah everybody says he’s great but it has nothing to do with me. H Randy didn’t give a shit except that V.H. Got signed. Randy started playing at 7 years old and believed that you learned the guitar for the sake of the guitar. He cared nothing about Eddie. 2 totally different people. I know, I asked him.

tell more stories please. Randy did get signed to a deal before Ed unfortunately it broke down and the best they could manage was japan, but he was never able to write the stuff he wanted to until he joined the blizzard of ozz. I believe what you are saying, because you could hear it at the seminar and read in interviews. Randy was more comfortable in his skin and he absolutely lauded Eddie's playing, Randy was very nice on other guitarists thinking they are all brought something to the table from angus. to Michael Schenker, to Blackmore to west.... Someone has told me, they believe, Ed was envious of Randy, not for his playing, but for his knowledge of the instrument and theory, Ed was self taught for the most part, but he never could write melodies like Randy because Randy knew so much about the guitar. And though people rip his tone I think nothing has ever sounded like his tone on the first two Blizzard of ozz albums, if you listen to the opening of I DOn't Know on earphones it is goose bump quality......does not even sound like a guitar, most unique tone I have ever heard to this day rumor has it that Randy actually thought George Lynch was the best of the 3, but my theory is , if he did say that, that was more of a dig at Eddie

You had one guy who was a student of music who was a grade A musician, student and teacher.... Then you had another guy who started pretty close to the same path but was such a savante that he didn't learn to read music because he could remember it note for note after watching the teacher play it or hearing it first. Both guys were virtuosos one guy could write a book on how he wrote everything he did, The other was a mad scientist. Everything from the way they dressed to the guitars they played and how they played them reflected it.

The reason for Osbourne's lack of participation is obvious: Everyone knows that by the time Diary was recorded Ozzy was treating Randy like shit. Randy had already made it clear he was leaving the band at the end of the Diary tour. But then he dies in a tragic plane accident and suddenly Ozzy wants the world to believe they were "brothers" and that Ozzy deeply loved him and mourned his loss. The Osbourne's want total control over the false narrative. Hopefully Relis is telling the true and full story in this doc. You can be sure that if Randy hadn't become an instant, beloved legend due to his early death and were Randy still living today, Ozzy would be acting as if he barely existed - the way Ozzy does with Jake E Lee.

I have to agree with you there. From what I have read of Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, they are very ruthless when it comes to the business of music. They even tried to withhold the royalties from the recordings Randy made while he was with Ozzy. And I simply cannot find it in me to forgive them for hiring a person like Andrew Aycock on the tour in the first place. According to Ritchie Blackmore the guy was bad news because he had a "Black Aura" around him, which to a psychic means death is imminent in that person, and he got rid of him. Next thing you know he is on the Ozzy "Diary Of A Madman" tour. I simply do not think that is pure coincidence.

not allowed is not the correct phrasing, I am sure if someone wanted to follow Randy and take pics and videos it would happen., I mean there are endless pics of him. Now, why is there such dearth of video, well Sharon completely fumbled with the advent of the MTV ERA, she did not have a video or two ready to go, she did not schedule the band for live interviews just Ozzy, or have them come into the MTV studios., she did not have professional shot concerts videos like some bands were doing back then...... But, we now know there are, or have beem told there are 5 videos professional shot from Albuerquerque, someone released Mr Crowley but alleges 4 others but says he knows people who shot the video and they were TOLD to focus on ozzy and really the only other person mostly featured is Rudy. A rivalry? I seriously doubt it. Edward just did his thing and didn't really care about anyone else. VHI was record in Sept/Oct 77 and then Edward was on the road in late 77/early 78 as an artist w/VHI being released in Feb 78. Randy did his thing but had no record deal until he auditions with Ozzy on Sept/Oct 79. VHII was already been released by that time. The timelines don’t even match up. I think it's a manufactured rivalry to add a little tension to the legend.

@@terryhorton817 I’ve been playing seriously for about 16 years. I have to say the first Van Halen album and the first ozzy album is equally as impressive guitar wise. It just depends on my mood but I’ve spent years digging each note apart on all songs and I think that they are equal. I personally like Van Halen 1 a tiny bit more but then throw in diary of a madman and now I cannot decide. That’s the thing about good music, it is subjective and it is purely art. All three albums I just talked about are some of the most magical things I’ve ever heard from this life. I’m just happy I can listen to these gems and am always getting new people to hear this gold some of us want to argue over. Randy Rhoads for sure had his own style on the same spectrum as EVH. I personally like the style of Randy better. It may just go along with my personality because I’m a darker more realist person. I just personally connect with minor scales and darker guitar under tones to playing. Van Halen is more major based music and happier. I love both and think Randy is a better player but Eddie was a better performer. Hard to really debate because Randy died so young and we had the joy of watching EVH go through his rise and demise and back to his rise again due to personal demons. There were some years where Eddie couldn’t play at all. But that is because he was human and had personal issues, which makes me love him that much more. But if you look at album sales and who was more successful, you can’t really get much more successful than Ozzy lol. Not sure what you are trying to say that Ozzy was jealous of VH in some way. I think Ozzy had bigger concerns throughout his life

@@joshuablair252 You hit it on the head. Guitarwise, Blizzard was real good, plus the songs. The problem with it, as I've concluded by listening to the first 3 back to back, is production. Credited are Ozzy and Randy as producer. The albums had gotten progressively better, and I can only conclude that Max Norman is responsible. Ted Templeman was a pure hit maker. That's why Van Halen hit it out of the park on their first try. Now, try to imagine Bark At The Moon with Randy's guitar and Max Norman at the helm. I grew up listening and learning every EVH and Randy lick, they were both great, Eddy's playing was all things cool bright and sexy like beaches in the summer, Randy was more dark and gloomy, his playing had a sometimes angry and mad edge like his end solo in "Tonite", or he could bring you to tears with a sad emotional solo like in "Goodbye to Romance". I saw Eddy in 79 and 80 however and nobody could touch him then, he was a monster with not only incredible timing but a hand that could crush walnuts.

Sharon screwed Bob and Lee by removing their tracks from Ozzy's first two albums and then had them re-released so they wouldn't get any royalties. The originals sound far better than the re-released versions in my opinion and I'm glad I still have the originals in my collection. The bass in particular on the newer versions just doesn't sound right to me, not that Robert is a bad bassist, it just isn't the same. I loved this documentary and as soon as I noticed the music from the first two albums wasn't included I said to myself "Sharon did it again". That sucks big time because I'm sure there must be a huge amount of content that would be extremely interesting to see/learn. If I remember correctly, Ozzy had to produce a live album (Speak of the Devil) in order to get out of his deal with Sharon's dad, Don, and Sharon's been in control ever since.

@Professor Felipe 87, Whaatt...? Exactly what do you think the "riffs" Randy came up with are? Hint, they're the main ideas of song writing. Rhoads had just as much input writing those songs on BOO & DOAM, as Bob Daisley did my friend. Trust me, Bob himself will admit to that, & if he doesn't, well then Bob's FOS! There's NO way those songs get written the way they are without Randy Rhoads, period. IDGAS who says who, what, when, why, or how today, to toot their own horn, now that Randy's not here to confirm anything. For instance, yes it's true Bob wrote the lyrics for the song DOAM when he was around 16. However, the main structure of that song is a classical guitar heavy melody & that wasn't Bob's doing, it was all Randy. Bob Daisley & Randy Rhoads wrote the vast majority of those songs together, along with a bit of input by Lee Kerslake & Don Airey's. Just saying... "Long Live Rock & Roll"

I was down in LA in the early 80's, saw Carlos Cavazo in Snow at the Whisky. Right before RR got the Ozzy gig. Randy Hansen knew Floyd Rose, both from Seattle. Randy demo'd Floyd Rose whammy to EVH. Floyd Rose was in Seattle band "Q5". Nikki Sixx and GNR Duff McKagan both went to LA, from Seattle. So what I saw, was that the LA Record Industry was "manufacturing" heavy metal groups. There are a ton of back stories off Sunset Strip then. Seattle musicians went down there. EVH Frankenstein guitar was Boogie Bodies, which was Warmoth Guitars. Jackson, Charvel, etc. where all coming out. LA Sunset Strip was a real epicenter of rock music in the early to mid 80's. I had a front row seat.

I freaking LOVED this documentary. What a truly fantastic job Andre Relis did. One of the great things was all the old stuff with Randy and Quiet Riot and all that .The casual fan knows about Randy with Ozzy, but probably hasn't seen as much of the stuff where Randy was just coming up and grinding it out in the Hollywood Clubs and in backyards all over the LA area. What truly sucks though, is that Ozzy has been quoted as saying many times how Randy was like a brother to him and it was the worst day of his life when Randy was killed. Well, if that's the case, then why oh why would you stand in the way of a film that celebrates Randy's life with such joy and really helps define his place in guitar history? I know that Ozzy is probably in pretty bad shape and Sharon makes most of the decisions. But this one was an embarrassment for Sharon and family. Let Randy's story be told with the music that introduced him to the world. She's been bullying people and screwing artists over her entire career. And no one will ever stand up to her. It's just pathetic. Anyway, well done Andre. You made it work without Ozzy and Sharon, and for that, kudos!

There would have been nothing good that came out of a situation like that with a woman capable of the evil that Sharon is to this day. As far as them being fucked up, the pilot was absolutely coked out of his mind. He was in a downward spiral over his lady, who was on the tour bus at the time and there are those who believe that had something to do with what happened. Randy and Rachel were clean as you can be. Randy (who smoked like a fiend) only had nicotine in his system according to the autopsy. There was a lot that went on up there and if you want to find out about it, look for videos where Don Airey, the only actual witness to the crash, and Rudy Sarzo, give their opinions on what happened.

@@Dave_Wight_The_Rock_Oracle Well, to my mind anything that gets Randy out there in the public consciousness and tunes people into the history and where it all began I think is great. I have seen Ron Sobol's DVD. I thought it was great as well. Ron was there, he was a friend of Randy's, so that made a huge difference. It was told from a very personal point of view. The problem is, not a ton of the general public saw it, which I always thought was a shame. Randy deserves to be celebrated and weirdly, I think lately, he finally is. Also, there isn't any professional concert footage with Randy at the big venues. There's a bunch of old home video stuff, that's it. I'm not sure why that is, either. It seemed like a no brainer to at least document some of those shows with a real TV truck and do a concert video. And finally (Trolls, here's your chance to call me a liar and a fraud) I was actually a student of Randy's back when I was a teenager. I'm 60 now, but I still think about those amazing lessons and about Randy every day of my life, him putting up with my fumbling fingers and letting me play the white Les Paul cause he loved playing my Strat with the Floyd Rose. Anyway, I'm a pretty big fan of Randy and at the end of the day, I was just happy to see his name and a movie about his life on my streaming service. Peace!

There is even a little bit of Good-Bye to Romance in it long before he left Quiet Riot for Ozzy. I had tickets to the show in Miami FL that was cancelled because of the plane crash. That one hurt, not because of the cancelled show, but we lost Randy. As for non-cooperation, Sharon is a big part of the problem. But then again, if it weren't for her would we have had Ozzy Osbourne solo? There is often jealousy among musicians. I don't think it was from Randy's side. That was Eddie all the way. I think you NAILED IT when you said that Ed had a big ego, because for him to accuse Randy of ripping him off is a fuckin joke. He was so insecure that he had to turn around so the crowd could NOT see him playing is BEYOND LAME! I was 20-25 feet from the stage and Ozzy was completely INSANE! At one point Randy was playing a solo and Ozzy was dragging him around the stage BY HIS HAIR!! Then he got on the ground and was wiping up some fluids with a fuckin towel. This was in the middle of a song! Randy was so AMAZING to see, he played note for note solos from the album and just tore the roof off of The 'Gon. I really hope that you are able to get something in the future, but for now, thank you.

David Lee Roth told EVH to face away from audiences because they were just about to go prime time and Diamond Dave had the foresight to protect Eddie from the legion of lead guitarists who were competing for fame in Los Angeles at the time. Dave knew if one of them saw Eddie using his hammer technique they would definitely rip him off then claim in Guitar Player Magazine that Eddie had stolen his tricks them off which of course would be untrue.

The f%$ked up thing about the way Ozzy & Co. treated a few musicians who wrote the majority of the songs & literally helped revive Ozzy & his career is. From the start of Black Sabbath all their LP's with Ozzy, most of the writing to Sabbath was done in almost the exact same fashion, but not. Tony Iommi being the riff master & main song writer in Sabbath. And, Geezer wrote the majority of the lyrics to Sabbath tunes. However, being the cool MFers Tony & Geezer were & are. They decided to divide ALL song writing credits on ALL Sabbath songs, to a 4-way even split between the band. No matter how much involvement of the writing Ozzy contributed or not to the songs, it was even Steven! Which makes sh!t like this even worse IMO? That as good & fair Geezer & Tony were to Ozzy by giving him an even share of the song writing & publishing credit on Black Sabbath tunes. Then for Ozzy to go solo & do the complete opposite to members in his band. By taking advantage of them & f%$king them on song writing & publishing royalties that they actually wrote, WTF! Not cool at all in my book? Don't get it twisted, I know & realize Ozzy definitely comes up with the vocal melodies on songs. Even still, c'mon man that's just a D!(K move!

Eddie and Randy was basically the same thing as Michael and Kobe. It's actually uncanny how much of a parallel exists there. For my money, if Randy lived, he would have been the greatest ever no question asked. Even now, he is arguably the greatest and the most special talent ever. He truly was the total package. He was a genuine musical genius, in fundamentals, technique, music theory, composition...arguably, a better guitarist with this kind of total package has not come around since.

@@sebastiandunbar8766 I wouldn’t put them up there with Randy. They’re great but they didn’t affect the genre the way guys like Hendrix, EVH, and Randy did. I wouldn’t say they’re more skilled than Randy either, because he had serious chops…just consider his age. When he passed, he had only played electric guitar for 13 years. That’s like Guthrie passing in the mid 90s. We’d still remember him as Guitar Magazine’s “Guitarist of the Year,” but obviously his reputation wouldn’t be what it is today if that had happened, nor would we think of him as quite as good of a technical player as he is today. I’d put Guthrie and Holdsworth into the very, very great category, with guys like Andy Timmons, Paul Gilbert, and Satriani, but I believe Randy trascended that category, if only by a little. If just the studio recordings existed I might agree with you, because the studio recordings were crap and the first album was screwed up by changing the band music behind the guitar (during the production stage). However, we have the Tribute album, which lets us hear the full power and tone of Randy playing live. Virtually no one has that kind of stage presence and sound playing live. You also have to give him credit for writing so many epic hits in a short amount of time. Some would say Randy created more memorable sounds than Guthrie has in 30+ years of playing professionally.

So sick of these so and so is better debates. I'm a guitarist and both did so many great things. We aren't talking about who's better, Randy or Paul Stanley for God sake. For me personally, Eddie played some crazy shit that at times, I couldn't figure out or had no clue what he was doing. Randy's solos were more thought out and he used a lot of extended scales up and down the neck, and while I could say, I know what he's doing, it still was awesome and it was at such blinding speed, I never was able to play some of his solos. That's as far as guitar goes, as for doing writer, I'm not sure but I think Randy needed help with his ideas cause noone really knows EXACTLY how much Bob and Lee brought to the songs. I only say that, cause I really didn't care for anything from quiet riot, even while Randy was in it. Both these guys in their lifetimes, despite Randy's being so short, were excellent at what they did, played to massive audiences , gained world wide recognition and recorded some great music. That's no need to try and say one is better then the other. I wish I could play half as well and had gotten an opportunity to do any of that. RIP both of them.

I'm sure the Doc is cool. And I like Randy as much as the next guy. That said, there was never any f'ckng rivalry. I am orig from L.A. and lived thru the whole thing. The actual only rivalry I ever saw was between Rick Derringer and Edward Van Halen. There was a scheduled thing that was supposed to happen at the golden bear in Huntington beach in early 1977, but it fell thru and never happened. Here's a question: If there was some supposed "rivalry" why are we just hearing about it in 2022 ?? Because both guitarists are gone, and neither can comment one way or the other that's why! Why wasn't Ed ever ask'd bout this in all those years. I'm calling bs. This "rivalry" is just some hype stuff to Garner more interest in the film. I have a picture I took of both guitarists at Glendale college, around 76 or 77. Randy with girlfriend in tow, was talking to Edward for a few minutes. @JeffroJacobs, I somewhat remember that Glendale college show myself. So, what exactly do you mean by Randy was there as a guest? I mean I recall Rhoads being more than a guest, seeing he played that night with Quiet Riot, it was booked as a double bill with both Van Halen & Quiet Riot jamming. Van Halen may have played 2nd on that gig, but I don't recall it being a VH show, with QR as the true opener? I do know it was kickazz! And as far as there being a "rivalry" between EVH & RR back in the day, there was? Not so much between the 2 directly, but by the media & outside public there was, whether they liked it or not. Magazines like "Hit Parader, Guitar World, Guitar Player," etc... had a issues of debate on Eddie & Randy, back in the 80's. This topic didn't just arise now in 2022, my friend, it's been. Although, there were many great guitarist coming out or already present then, Eddie & Randy were known as the hottest guitarists, not only in the L.A. music scene, but music in general. Especially, by players in the guitar world. Personally I never looked at it like that myself, I love & loved them both, they both brought something special to the table & inspired many. I'm not surprised that the Osbournes behaved like this. When Randy informed Ozzy that he wanted to leave to pursue other musical avenues, including a Masters, Ozzy punched him. Keyboardist Don Airey wrote that beginning part of 'Mr Crowley' but never got a writing credit or royalties. Then the 'Bark at the Moon' album is credited to Ozzy, when he's only really ever come up with vocal melodies and the occasional part of a lyric; Jake and Bob wrote most of that album but got screwed on it. An interesting aside to the Randy, Ozzy and Sharon relationship is that Randy supposedly slept with Sharon - Howard Stern brought that up with them on his show and Sharon quickly shut him down but didn't deny it.
