Seriously I learned so much just from these 2 videos. Working with jam bands they don't do much studio stuff. But my girls band wants to mix a album that's not a live show. Everything we do we do live. The recordings of each show is available right after the shows over. All mixing and audio is done live usually. So I'm not in my usual wheel house with a mixed and multi take production. The automation stuff was very informative. Can't wait to dig deep into your videos. I started out modifying guitar pedals and building modular synth components. Then got a job doing sound for a local jam band that does pretty well. Now it seems I need to learn the finer points of audio engineering. I think I found a good place to start.

Super video Streaky. I really like how you broke it down. Everything straight to the point, no baggage 😂 So now i'm wondering how much further processing was done if this was sent off to be mixed. If the track already has alot of processing done, where would a mix engineer go from there ? Was this the final mix shown here ?

I'm gonna start using more stock logic plugins where I can because honestly you save so much cpu and they sound damn good. I have the fab filter stuff and I still reach for the stock eq everytime cause its just so integrated. If you're doing simple things and not looking for the sound of a specific plugin, stock is king.

I hope you do know, there’s a lot of post production editing before this editing lol. Get into audio engineering to know them, instead of saying things that make people not wanna get into music lol. It’s not the mic, the vocalist doesn’t have to be great, you would know if you do your research.
@Noisa
@Noisa 2 жыл бұрын
@@itsliaa4223 lol I’ve worked in production houses that have recorded National acts, how about yourself? You’ve missed the point completely. The “character” doesn’t necessarily mean classically, more so means timbre and accompaniment to the production. Quality doesn’t necessarily mean expensive, it means quality lol. The quality a mic has to a persons voice varies greatly. Why we sometimes ended up using a 57 instead of a 1-2k mic on things. You can’t polish a piece of crap. If you didn’t get that, you have some research and learning to do. 👍🏼

Hi Streaky, thank you for these insights. If i could ask for one additional step? When comparing sounds between compression on and off, it would be helpful to match levels.. I've notice when comparing the sounds, on and off, the biggest change is level. Thanks Brian
@TheKatchutes

But that’s what the compression is doing, cutting peaks but raising overall “level”… that’s the point! If that’s the level in Finneas’ final mix then that’s what should be shown. 🤷‍♂️

It is very interesting. But. The tracks that you are showing us already have obviously undergone some treatment before already. The "dry" signal is already flawless, the tracks pretty much cleaned up, there definitely has been some compression applied while tracking the vocals, plus they have been heavily pitch corrected. What you show us here is just 50% of all the work that has to be put into that record to make it sound the way it does.. It was an interesting video nonetheless.
@TheKatchutes
@TheKatchutes Жыл бұрын
Have you watched any of Finneas mixing “tutorials” with Billie? “Apparently” they don’t do pitch correction, or atLEAST heavy pitch correction. She sings each section about 50 to 100 nauseatingly and painstaking times by using comps. Maybe they use slight compression on recording, but she also sings with the mic basically in her mouth and at quiet levels. Whatever is happening at recording stage isn’t really sufficient enough to point out. The gold is in what streaky is presenting us.
