Today's video is at times a tough one to watch... We discuss the well-intended, but poorly-executed tradition of turtle races in Perham which have been going on for over 40 years. We offer our suggestions to make it more sustainable for the native turtle populations, but something definitely needs to be done about the improper handling of the turtles as well if they should continue.

Upon reading a more recent paper however, it appears as though the success rate of reptile relocation attempts in more recent years (Germano and Bishop 2009) are higher compared to this paper’s results. Success rates seemed to be dependent on higher numbers of relocated animals (1,000 or more released at once being most successful in the case of amphibians). However, reptile relocations are still not as successful as mammals…
