I'm in my mid-thirties and people frequently think I'm at least 10 years younger. I use a drugstore cleanser, moisturizer with spf or night cream, and an eye cream. If I'm gonna be in the sun for a significant amount of time I use a heavier duty sunscreen. That's it.

I use Korean skincare, and I agree that some steps may seem unnecessary, but skipping moisturiser after cleansing… It is an easy way to damage your skin's barrier and age it prematurely. Overall, people blindly purchase products advertised by influencers without understanding their purpose, rather than the number of steps in skincare being the issue. Many Koreans use a multi-step skincare routine, and their skin looks flawless

Its called a good dermatologist. Thats what most koreans have outside of makeup....including the men. A good point of this is Shownu and Cocoloco (from tiktok), they look attractive if one is attracted to asian men. However, the closeups of their faces sans makeup shows their faces as patchy, reddish, moley and sometimes scratchy. The thing is they usually wear makeup and no close ups. South koreans are known for their plastic surgery, its disturbing how so few knkw of their dermatologist sector. These are just two men I myself once followed....the amount of female kpop singers with good money sans makeup....👀👀👀👀👀...they arent flawless dear. Theyre just like everyone else, with more damage I believe from caustic product overload.

In a time of climate crisis, the overconsumption of beauty products is honestly disgusting. I remember buying hoards of makeup and throwing hundreds of pounds away at the end of the year, many products which had expired and could no longer be used. I felt ashamed at how so much resources were going to waste. That was back in 2018 and I stopped with my overconsumption of makeup. Skincare followed soon after too. This lifestyle just isn’t sustainable, both monetarily and environmentally. It’s no good to buy products in sustainable packaging if most of it will just go in the bin.

I feel like a lot of advice about skincare boils down to this: keep it simple and keep it regular. Unless your skin is causing you actual physical pain (such as in the case of cystic acne), a simple routine is likely better. Sure, the necessities aren’t sexy and aren’t being marketed by influencers, but they’re recommended *by doctors* and I trust a doctor who actually went to medical school to study medicine over some influencer.
@HerbeyStudies

I feel it's all about your personal experience & skin journey. As a 30 year old Black man, I have a deep interest in skincare & self-care. Yes my skin-routine is simple IE, cleanser, moisturizer & SPF, but I do enjoy researching ingredients, reading the labels on skincare products & trying new items. Thankfully I've been blessed with not having too many skin issues, no matter what I put on my skin. I do agree that many people are just over purchasing skincare for trends, but then there are some folks who just love that industry. Now what does need to END, are people putting food on their face. Which I thought was left back in the 2000's. An avocado or mango smeared on your face is not going to fix your skin issues. Eating it will do more for you.

The historical part was ok accurate until the Middle Ages . The Middle Ages was the heir of antiquity when it comes to hygiene. The Roman and Greek thermae turned into public baths tubes (for the poorest) or private bath tubes (for the richest). The breaking point actually happened at the very end of the Middle Ages/beginning of Renaissance when it comes to hygiene habits when people started to stop bathing like completely stopped. Moreover you mistake the word Renaissance with the whole early modern era. Renaissance is only 16th century. People were still "dirty" up to the 2nd half of the 18th century. And even afterwards, the daily bath was definitely not a thing for an average person even in ghe 1960s for material/financial reason.

I have bachelors degree in biochemistry, hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide are used in cosmetic products to help stabilize the pH. If you have a skin issue please see a doctor or licensed medical professional. That being said, I do use 3 serums from the ordinary (it’s a very cheap brand for skin care) because I have combo skin. 1 is lactic acid peeling and I use it when I have peeling skin, 2 is zinc-niacinamide serum and I use it for my acne prone skin, 3 is just hydrolauronic acid and it’s when my skin is dry. Then I use moisturizer, a chemical sunscreen (because I have dark skin) and a salicylic acid cleanser.

The issue is that ya’ll are illiterate and ignorant. You think because something works for someone else online (who is being paid to sell you products) then it will work for you. Ya’ll use a new product every few weeks. You expect results in 1 day. That’s not how life works. There’s nothing wrong with an elaborate routine IF it’s quality and makes sense. K-beauty has 7-10 steps and they take care of their skin and have great skin. I have 7 steps. I’ve used the same products for 5 years. I have perfect skin. I have had acne since my period first started at 11 and it has never fully left me. I still have it at 31 years old. but at that time, my skin wasn't nearly as bad as it used to be. Proactive destroyed my face and brought me back to my worst point. My entire face was covered in red painful and inflammed cysts. It's really annoying cause my mom is the type of Nigerian parent that aims to rule their child's life and thinks "mother knows best." She said that I have to use proactive to get rid of my acne (how would she even know that? from watching the ads lol?) I didn't want to try it because I knew the ingredients weren't it (thank you reddit) but she kept pressing me and telling me I'm wrong and she's right. When she say what it did to me, she shut up.

I used to use all the products of the ordinary, body shop and so many brands at Sephora, it took me years to realize that it actually irritated my skin and made me breakout more. Now all I use is Kojic acid soap and milk toner and my skin has never looked better and not as sensitive. Also helped on my budget too.

The more I tried on my skin the worse it got, the skin ‘purge’ is the biggest marketing bullpoop imo because it is impossible for the average consumer to tell the difference between, irritation, allergic reaction spots, clogging/breaking out and a genuine ‘purge’ - the amount of times I’ve pushed through the, it gets worse before it gets better period only to wreck my skin 😅

They recommended simpler skincare routines, using less products or trying different ingredients when the answer is more basic; diet, lifestyle, sleep and exercise.

The thing I hate about brands is that they never make sample sizes of things like foundation or so . Sometimes it happens that we buy things online as we all don't have sephora nearby or so then the shade doesn't match or we don't like the formula etc. Then the full product just go to waste. I feel so guilty about it, also not all of us do makeup daily to need a full size bottle.

Me I never fell for the overconsumption of skincare or ever indulging in a extensive skincare routine mostly because there's only so much you can do with multiple products, but also spending that much on products especially when companies want to push out small sizes or one time use products never quite interested me. Not saying i have the most perfect skin but sometimes having just the basics makes me feel less overwhelmed and pressured. But if i had the finances and time i would probably be focusing on my skincare and hair routine on the daily, but that's just me.

I definitely have this problem because I grew up raised by my parents who have a scarcity mindset, which I adopted. They grew up in a third world country in the aftermath of a brutal war and communist regime, and resources were scarce and starvation was normal. When they finally escaped to the USA, eventually they built themselves up and began to hoard resources over time. They would buy anything that went on sale even if we didn’t really need it. They raised me in this way (we were also homeless for some time which did not help). Due to these influences, I became someone who gradually began hoarding items as well. When I first got a job as a teenager, I would spend my entire paychecks on art supplies as I loved to do art. And now that I am into skincare, I hoard skincare and buy whenever things are on sale. I have a problem and I’m trying to do better. The only thing I can say is that at least I also gift products to my family so nothing expires before someone can use it. Because of the scarcity mindset I learned, I never waste products. Thanks for this video.

I have acne all over my face and body since 15 years. Hearing that your skin should "breathe" and "repair itself naturally" is just.. bs. And it makes me angry. Only people with good or normal skin can say this. You only use a creme once a week? And you have awesome skin? GOOD FOR YOU! Because you don't have these kind of problems. I'd rather spend money on these products to find out what suits me and my skin. Now I have found my routine. Acne skin can not just heal randomly by just washing the face and by letting it breathe...

My mum was a performer on stage. She had to wear loads of stage makeup but didn’t ever use actual pancake etc. she always used her own stuff that she knew her skin was ok. Her skincare post performance was soap and water. End of. She has some of the softest, best skin I’ve ever seen. She did add an SPF in as she got older due to skin cancer risk. But that was it. Skin is the body’s greatest organ. You know not to overload the liver with toxins like alcohol or drugs. So why overload ur skin with all these awful chemicals? That also includes makeup btw. The more you pile on, the less ur skin can breathe & it does need to breathe. The more u block those pores, the more you’ll break out. Ive always had reactive skin - i didn’t know back then but i have MCAS so tend to react to all sorts of stuff. I was majorly allergic to most skincare & makeup brands including expensive ones. I rarely wore foundation - only for the occasional night out, or a loooong day of meetings at work if I didn’t want to look half dead by lunchtime! But my skin would nearly always not thank me for it and I’d have mini breakouts. I’m now 50. I have virtually no lines on my face. I still get hormonally greasy so get hormonal outbreaks which I use tea tree spot stick on as that really works for me, but only when needed. Otherwise I use soap and water. One moisturiser with a 30SPF in - I’m v fair skinned and prone to burning at the first sight of sun. And I have one night cream which I adore (Nightamins). Took me years to find the right brand for my skin - Origins. Gorgeous stuff. And I’m not allergic to it! Have to find the right products for u as an individual as I can’t use several of them at all (the ginger ones were a disaster for me,but my friend loves them). . Your skin is very individual. Find what works for you. Use minimal amounts of anything. You do not need to scrub and peal your skin on the daily. Ever. And drink lots of water! Seriously, this is one of the best things u can do for your face. Avoid caffeine. Drink water.

Proactive is actually the only thing I've ever used on my skin that stopped the breakouts. I started it in my early 20s in 05 or so. That being said, I only used step one. The aqua coloured liquid smelled too strong, and the "lotion" for step three hurt so bad I just ended up with a pile of step 2 and 3 left over. Eventually they sold a diff bottle that was *only* step one, and that stuff worked amazing. and then one day it was gone, but they still sold bars instead, so I got that. few years later, that was gone too! so now I use a diff salicylic acid soap. But now at 40, my acne was pre-menopause issues and I'm on actual medication for it which cleared my skin *instantly* in 2 weeks of taking it.

I’m watching this while wearing a face mask. Do I think you need a 20 step skin care routine? No…. However…. Being in my late 40s, I definitely need more than a gentle cleanser & a moisturizer. I think that’s great for someone in their 20s and I agree at that age that’s all you really need, except sunscreen. Everyone needs sunscreen every day. I will say if not for my retinols, vitamin C, serums, masks & good moisturizer, I’d look 10 years older. I’d have a lot of hypertension & dull skin. First world problems for real,, but that’s where I live.

The problem with my targeted audience (teens) is that they aren't interested because it's not "trendy". My products are very affordable, a whole kit is less than one bottle of drunk elephant lol I have found my new target are the people just outside of early teens (18 to mid 20) because they are actually focused on clearing their skin instead of buying trendy products that do nothing for them. I love it when I get messages from satisfied customers. They are just never teen age....oh well 🤷🏽‍♀️ lol

Sorry to say this but I also blame a lot of the dermatologist and skincare “experts” that claim you need all of these items. In my opinion, skincare should be simple if you don’t have any major skin issues like eczema. So many people are buying so many skincare products like it’s some hobby. It shouldn’t be a hobby, it should be something that you only buy when necessary. I can’t even count how many times I’ll see someone doing a skincare haul and their logic is “oh I just wanted to try this”. Ok, but is it necessary? If you ready have 20 serums and cleansers do you really need another one. Also, controversial take but a lot of the skincare that comes out isn’t necessary or does anything different. People are straight up pouring money down the drain all because a dermatologist said that this will make your skin .000000001% better. Overconsumption isn’t just affecting the hygiene world, it’s in the fashion world, stationary world, and even the tech world somewhat. People can do whatever they want with their money but stop saying that people NEED something when in reality you just bought that item because you are privileged and have money to spend.
@RJ_Games0

Also these dermatologist are hypocritical. When skincare is trendy once again they will recommend so many overpriced products and shove as much products they can down your throat because it obviously benefits them. Then when they get called out they just double down and say “oh but I’ve recommend a simple skincare since forever”. Guarantee you that all of these videos of these derms are all recent. It just feels that they push products when it’s convenient and they tell people to have a simple skincare routine when it’s convenient.
