@mind blowing teories: You do make a point. Though I cannot say I agree with 'no one' caring about Metroid outside the SNES and Gamecube titles. There are plenty who grew up with the early ones to. While it is true more recent fans from the early 2000s would of gotten into Metroid through Prime and the ones in the mid 90s with Super Metroid, that doesn't mean people don't care about the other games. I'll admit the series has it's flaws and it maybe not as popular as Mario or Zelda, as far as Nintendo owned IPs go. Metroid has a niche audience and one that has been very supportive of the series, even if it's not physically apparent. Fandoms and fans have a odd way of surviving the worst. Also with Metroid: Samus Returns on the New 3DS, and Metroid Prime 4 coming to the Switch in the future, there is a lot to look forward to and hopefully these games will stick.

Best 2d metroid I have ever played. REALLY REALLY dug this one. And that's saying something since they are all pretty good or VERY good. And this is saying something since many claim that super metroid is the greatest game ever made. I really appreciate this one getting made though... Return of samus I would argue is one of the weaker ones and this AM2R feels like it lands perfectly between zero mission and super metroid. Sorry game boy version. You didn't make the cut lol. Almost but no.

@@soyborne.bornmadeandundone1342 the difference with AM2R is that it is far more linear than either Zero Mission or Super, being a remake of Metroid II.

The problem with Metroid II was that the game was very forgettable. The music was forgettable, the sr388 was forgettable, and the gameplay was forgettable. AM2R and Samus Returns are much needed revampings of the game.

Nah, he's right. Metroid II dragged on so long and was mostly boring. The overall story was salvageable, and this remake is exactly what it needed to give it a new life. I was born in the mid '80s, not that that makes a difference to the value of my opinion.

I don't think it's to bad, the surface runner theme is good, most of the OST from this remake is memorable. The only instance I can think of were totally rearranging a theme kind of wasn't the best choice was the theme that played when fighting the Metroid queen. It was abit to simple and repetitive for what was remade as a rather long boss fight.

The soundtrack doesn't have enough notable content to warrant this sort of complaint, seeing how 3 of the tracks out of 10 have literal beeps and boops to act as "music".

The effort put into AM2R wasn't wasted (it's still better than the official 3DS remake), but there was an opportunity wasted by the folks at Nintendo, who you're giving way too much credit here. If they were *actually* smart, they'd contact the guy who's been working on this game by himself for over a decade and offer him a job, just like Sega did with the Sonic romhacking scene. When someone shows that much dedication and hard work to a series they love to make a fan-game of such high quality and polish despite the legal risks, I definitely want him on my side.

GIR177 I completely agree with you. The official remake on the 3ds didn't quite capture the flow of the original like this. If Nintendo was smart then they would port AM2R to the switch and hire the guy who made AM2R to the Metroid team.

@Paul Beenis Well let's clear up definitions them. Better means "superior to", which AM2R is in every way over Samus Returns, so maybe you should invest in a dictionary.

Amr2 was the best version of this game by far. It is really enjoyable and getting me back into platformers. Nintendo gave it a good go but this is definitely better. It's a shame Nintendo don't employ the guys who made this game to make other remakes of Nintendo games
