Not comparable. -Zidane was playing his last game with the France team and it was the final -The score was 1-1, there were lots of tension between the 2 teams -Materazzi consistently insulted him during the match, Zidane held himself for some time but eventually exploded -Zero offense from the Welsh team and specifically from the victim of that elbow -France was leading and superior than the Welsh team, no tension -Vahamahinna's elbow was 100% dumb and the red card well deserved

Stupid mistakes cost teams games and that played made a huge mistake that cost his team the match. The ref made the right call on the red card. Intentional contact with the head = red card. Plain and simple.
@Karma-qt4ji4 жыл бұрын
@@howdoiunbakeacake1525 Went to the TMO. Not clear that the ball went forward. What it does in the air has nothing to do with the direction out of the hands. Therefore try stands and is fair. Where France fucked up was when they had another put in to the scrum and did not bother to use a backline player to join on the side (especially this one so close to the line) and no 8th man. That was just criminally stupid. Also, I agree with the ITV studio guys who basically said that (and I am paraphrasing here) the red card guy needn't have bothered apologising to his team mates, he should just leave the field, the stadium and keep walking. Intentional move, clearly looked to see if the ref was watching before doing it. At this level of rugby, that was always going to cost his team.

And when Shaun Edwards goes over to France, they will 100% be a stronger team. I believe the 'which French side will show up' curse will be lifted. With that said, we can't lose sight of some wider context here. The extra week off, the previous games over the year not being this bad for Wales, and the fact that this was one of Frances strongest performances this year. French players as far it is known, did not verbally provoke the Welsh, partly because if they had done it,, the Referee would have stopped them at once. When Wales , Ireland or England meet France ( or other teams as well) there is a continuous provocative chatter that is permitted to continue from the start to the end. I remark that Referees do not permit to answer. When there are not provocations , it is because adversaries' language is too difficult! This s not a secret. Of course, the best answer to provocations is to mark tries but Vamahina is not an ice-cold character and he overreacted. We must admit that Anglo Saxon layers are often more cool minded

It wasn't clearly forward. It is irrelevant what the ball does in the air after the strip. What is important is which way did it come out of his hands. @JohnSmith-oe5kx4 жыл бұрын

Just saw it now. @8:20 Tomo Williams is in offside position in front of Dupont. More than the forward pass on the riping, it should have been a penalty for France.
@JohnSmith-oe5kx4 жыл бұрын
Before the put-in, the defending team's scrum-half must be on his team's side of the middle line. Williams takes a step over the middle line as the ball was released; I would call that aggressive but not offside. After the put-in the defending team's scrum-half only needs to remain on his team's side of the ball. Serin (not Dupont) puts the ball in toward his team's side (illegally, although everyone does it to an extent). Serin is thus immediately offside, as he must have at least one foot behind the ball. Williams has smartly advanced with the ball and is onside. Serin has no choice but to go around Williams to get back onside himself, which he does. There is no issue whatsoever with Williams being "in front of" Serin. As soon as the Number 8 picks up the ball the scrum is over, and Williams is free to pounce. Ollivon may or may not have known Williams was standing over him, but had Ollivon not ended the scrum it would have been a penalty to Wales; Chat's head has come up before the French scrum collapses. The scrum over, Williams rips the ball from the far larger Ollivon (before being blatantly fouled by Serin, but it turned out not to matter). All in all, superb scrummaging by Wales, including Williams.
@JohnSmith-oe5kx4 жыл бұрын
@glyn hodges Agreed! According to the laws the put-in must be straight and the scrum is a contest for the ball, which is more or less how it worked in my day (in 20th century Canada). The attacking side had the advantage only of timing and whatever angle and/or spin you could get away with, which was generally enough although a good hooker/strong pack could steal a ball now and then. Nowadays the scrum is basically a fight for penalties because ball is fed directly to the attacking team. I don't like it, but if that is acceptable, change the laws! Why can that rule be ignored but the rule that the line-out be straight(-ish) is still enforced?
@JohnSmith-oe5kx4 жыл бұрын
@glyn hodges And yes, massive effort at the end by Wales, so exciting to see the French scrum start to buckle. But as a former second row I really felt for the French pack, playing a man down for so long. Massive effort from them as well after Vahaamahina let them down.

At least the red card in this match was a definite red card, unlike Warburton's card in 2011 which was very contentious. Ironically, Wales have gone out of past World Cup's via a match in which they were the best team, this time going through when they were definitely second best - it's a funny old game. Wales can get through to the final if they turn up against South Africa, and possibly beat an England side in the final because they have done so twice this year alreeady, but I can't see Wales beating NZ if performing like this.
