Extending Community SONiC use case to OpenLAN Switching - Taras Chornyi + Lenoid Khedyk, PLVision
In today's rapidly evolving landscape, organizations are constantly seeking solutions which deliver exceptional performance while maintaining cost-effectiveness, reliability, and scalability. The open-source NOS SONiC, once a niche DC-centric solution, has evolved into a transformative force impacting a wide range of industries. But despite the widespread adoption of whitebox solutions and open NOS disaggregation in data centers, the wiring closet LAN switches used in the wider business market haven't changed.
The OpenLAN Switching (OLS) initiative of the Telecom Infra Project (TIP) aims to modernize LAN switches in commercial organizations across various sectors such as education, retail, hospitality, and more. The project's goal is to provide a unified, multi-vendor, open solution for LAN switches, and SONiC serves as a fundamental component for its implementation.
Our speaking session will explore PLVision's collaborative journey with TIP, focusing on the development of a new open-source software stack based on Community SONiC - SONiC for OLS.
