The Nikkor Z 70-200 is fantastically sharp. Extension tubes should work very well with this lens. Although the extension tube doesn't have any glass to affect image quality, doesn't pushing the lens away from the sensor affect lens sharpness in the way the lens is designed to focus on a field of a certain size?

Extension tubes. As far as I understand it you lose control of aperture and auto focus with reverse rings

Good points included here. I jumped in with a Fujifilm 80 mm....which I have yet to learn how to use. Thus, happy to learn of your "for beginners" video and other opportunities you provide for instruction. Just subscribed.

Nice video, but i still have a few questions. Is there any difference is DOF with extension tubes or a macrolens? And what about light? Is there any loss of light with extensiontubes? Thank you.

Hi Groene, Sorry for the late reply. Yes, there is. Whenever you add extension tubes the DOF decreases, due to the increased magnification. You can find a DOF calculator for macro photography here (www.photopills.com/calculators/dof-macro). The same goes for the loss of light, which decreases with increased magnification. When you shoot with a 1:1 magnification or higher, the effective aperture changes. This means that you will get less light, than what the usual aperture gives. At 1:1 (1x magnification), using aperture f2.8, the light you get is equal to that of aperture f5.6. At 4:1 (4x magnification), using aperture f2.8, the light equals aperture f14. Note that you also get the flaws of loss of sharpness and diffraction, when you shoot at higher magnification. So at 4x magnification using f2.8, you get the sharpness equal to f14 (to my understanding). I have created a full downloadable chart over at my member area: www.peterbredahldam.com/become-member
