Today, I’m learning how to install External Wall Insulation…and I’m doing it at the Baumit Training Academy.
I’ll walk you through an overview of the days training and outline the process you’ll need to follow to successfully install External Wall Insulation Rendering in the UK.
I’ll walk you through the materials, tools and methods to get the job done RIGHT!!
It’s a big tutorial and well worth focusing on because I firmly believe that the demand for this Rendering system is going to go through the roof!
If you like this video then please like and subscribe. And leave a comment because we’d love to hear from you.
Thanks for watching.

Looks a good course. I did the one with EWI Academy in Aylesbury as it's not too far away. It was very similar which is good for a standardisation. Useful hint about the packers and that hot cutter, wow. Another thing to consider, as said, these are on old houses mainly so other works are needed. Facias and sofits may need some sort of work. Rain pipes, poo pipes and other fixings will have to be moved outward. Just things to consider.

Very smart idea to put those pieces of foam after the screw and washer. Here in melbourne australia you see alot of the time you can see the screw holes after basecoat and texture has been complete because the screws have been over driven. In the wimter time with the morning dew polystyrene walls look horrible. Great idea

Good system. Here in melbourne this is all we do on 2nd floor walls. We use bigger sheets of foam though. Either 2.4m ×1.2 m sheets or 5.0m×1.2m sheets. Less likely to crack with bigger sheegs

Great video Blaine, I would do this course if there was demand, how much would you charge a customer per sqm with this product? how would it work around soil stacks? think it would look a bit crap if its butted up to the soil stack.

It looks easy and it is on perfectly flat wall. When its not, if has curves or holes or insulation is ticker 8cm then it ask for extra effort and stronger drilling machine for fixing. Those days I am putting wall insulation at my home, its hard work. Instead of mix material for mold I was thinking to use foam gun for roockwool and styro board to speed up proces but not sure how it works on long terms. And I haven't seen in video you sand outside board before rendering.

Are three any issues with condensation with this method? Also, what if you want to hve smooth flat walls instead of redndering them? Can you use thin drywall instead?

Interesting video but most external insulation would be to retrofit a house. Old houses were built to breath and this insulation does not allow that. Unless the house is gonna try to be air tight, which is very difficult to do. There is a similar system using wood fibre boards and lime, cork render which is completely breathable and eco friendly. Some wood fibre board manufacturers are gutex and steico. They have EWI systems aswell as internal systems and boards. I hope this info helps anyone.

My son was told exactly that regarding his 30s non cavity wall house.
@Jrambo51
@Jrambo51 6 ай бұрын
@@llamedosr7843 yes, after researching i found that it is extremely difficult to make an older house airtight which you must do in order to make this type of insulation work as it should. It doesn't mean its wrong if you want to tackle that big job but i think for most older houses like my 1936 semi, double brick, then woodfibre for me is the way to go. Plus i like the eco benefits of that type of insulation. Wool is good as well, also hemp. Its very interesting if you look into it. I only said this so more people could have the correct knowledge rather making a huge mistake.

Totally agree unfortunately old solid wall buildings suffer from some kind of damp issues that EWI systems can make worse.Also some off the detail doesn’t look great i.e bay windows and roof eves without soffits

@@Happytruth I’m not talking about cavity walls I’m saying that nine inch solid brickwork (no cavity) can suffer from rising or penetrating damp issues and admittedly will rectify penetrating damp and as you say mould issues ,as the only reason you get this is internal humidity sitting on a cold outside walls

This is +50y technology unknown in UK. But is slowly arriving! Europe stopped building cavity walls long time ago and move onto above technology. So yes, it is the future for UK. However Europe is already moving on ;)

A house has this near to where I live. There are gaps for gas / electric meter cupboards, a BT connection and some conduit that goes from the ground to first floor in an open channel. I do not know the owners so cannot really ask to use my FLIR on the inside but suspect there will be several cold spots attracting condensation and presumably mold. The concept of this insulation looks interesting, execution in practice I suspect will be flawed.

My mate had this insulation and "render" done on his house. He says that its insulation properties are brilliant, but not so much to look at. At the front of his house the render has cracked off where his son has leant his bike against the house and round the back it looks like a world war 2 bunker thats encountered some tanks! There is damaged render everywhere, just from his son kicking a football repeatedly against the house, you know like a nine year old does.

I see that kind of thing on commercial buildings all the time, with dings from delivery trucks, trash bins, etc. It looks a little funny when you see a fake granite archway crushed to reveal what looks like packing material. The systems with with an outer layer of cement board, tiles or brick veneer, at least on the ground floor, seem to avoid most of that.

Have to disagree with the amount of work you get through clients that personally fund the work. The only way you can make good money is to get work from council grant work. I do a few EWI jobs in a year but is an expensive option as what you save on your electric/gas bills will take 40years to recover. To me not really an option
