You can use those tools if you steam the joint to soften the glue.

Yes, but you also soften the wood and it follows that you get a damaged shank.

they also sell small extractors with screw for that on popular websites (about 20 bucks), much easier to use than that 🙂

I disagree! This seems much easier to use. Two thwacks, instead of 10-15 turns on that tool.
