Extracting Supers and Returning them to the Hives - #Beekeeping Basics - The Norfolk Honey Co.
Following on from our last video we descend on the honey room and extract a super of honey before returning back to the apiary later that evening to return the supers back to the original hive.

Hi Stewart, I just watched your extraction video that you just posted. As always it's a very helpful, informative video as all of your videos and podcast are! Tried to comment, but the comments for that video for whatever reason were disabled. But want to let you know and to say THANK YOU, that my daughter's and I extracted 360 pounds! 🙌 Realize that not much in comparison to most, but we are delighted! We owe our successful season to God and you! Sorry I've been out of touch, but still hammering away at our home improvements and it's coming along as scheduled. As you can imagine we've had zero idle moments between this and the 🐝's! 👊

Everything turned out well. I managed to get just under 5 gal. Not bad considering most was from a swarm caught in July, also split it end of July. I'll definitely have to invest in a proper extractor. My revamped one from the 50's is not the best. Thanks again

Hi Stewart Thank's great video ,as safe practice I will advise to use the knife downward, to avoid any injury.

Hi Ahmed, I've used both up and down methods for cutting and feel most comfortable with the up method but I do take your point about safety. Stewart

Hello, Thanks for this fabulous video, we have got Heather honey , in west Yorkshire, what do you recommend for extract it?, because, it is like jelly and keep sticking in the comb.

hi stewart, when you put the supers back for them to clean is it ok to do varroa treatment with apigard at same time, i have seen people say do not feed and treat at same time, thank you

Hi Simon, Thanks for the question. I put the wet supers on for just a few days and then remove them prior to adding any varroa controls. I don't use any varroa treatments while the wet supers are on the hives. Stewart

Hi really awesome videos. i am from the Caribbean. Can i convert my manual extractor to an electric one? as it seems to be similar to the one you're using, i think i will need the motor part to the top. Thank you.

Hi Kerron, thanks for commenting. I think most makes of extractor are convertible from manual to electric depending on the manufacturers available accessories. I know it is possible for makes of extractor here in the UK. Stewart

Great video. When you put the wet frames back on the colonies, do the bees try to fill the combs back in versus cleaning them?

Hi, I understand you would keep the super on in this particular case over winter so the bees would have additional source of food and you call this a brood and a half. My question is why would you remove the queen excluder though the bees can still move freely though it? Are you worried that the queen would be left in the brood box not properly attended?

Hi, Yes, I remove the queen excluder to allow the queen to move up with the workers and not get stuck behind. Stewart
