There is one feature missing in beamng that would drastically improve realism to me, and that is thermostat. Engines , when starting cold, IRL, increase the RPMs until achieving working temperature. The increase is not dramatic, for my 2007 Ford Focus (piece of trash) it would be ~100-150 RPM higher idle. About 5 minutes idling in winter (~15 degrees centigrade) and the engine is warm and idle drops. My carbureted scooter has an electric enricher which is composed of a tiny hole that is open inside the carburetor, and the enricher is a plastic covered stick like shape, sitting outside the carb, with wax inside it, covering a small tube that plugs right into that hole. A cable that is connected to the AC circuit is heating the wax, which in turn pushes the metal pin, that plugs the "extra fuel" hole in the carb. The AC circuit is powered only when the engine is powered (and generating power by stator), and not related to the 12v DC battery. I need those things in beam :(

Set a low environment temp and run without radiator. Also, you may test the picollino, since it's aircooled Edit: Actually i did that myself, it doesn't matter the temp, it seems that the cars won't start and run because they can't get enough air. If you set it to -270ºC and start to climb, there will be an altitude that the engine will refuse to rev up and will "lock" itself, it seems that Beam has a air density simulation that gets all haywire with those extreme temps. I went as far as running the engine only on nitro haha

Hmm..... temperature on Beam bugged, or maybe you'll need to see the temperature of the engine/oil because you might have to let them sit after adjustment..... because I live in North Dakota..... Once it hits 0°F and you don't have a block heater things start to not want to start, -10°F after sitting for 3hrs and you'll be sluggish starting, -20° and no block heater or battery plugged in? It's either going to have extremely limited voltage for starting, or your oil is so viscous you're struggling to turn over. I've had vehicles that won't start at -10°F, -30°F is usually where they don't want to do anything if they've sat for over an hour with no assistance.... everything else at -30° is great too, infotainment systems struggle to show their screens, stuff is tight and doesn't want to move....so yeah temps definitely bugged on Beam, or they need to "soak".

@100GTAGUY Жыл бұрын
@@JoNJamEz1 is it your first new bike ever, big bore or small bore, 2t or 4t? Could just be strong compression and if it's a bigger engine and you're new to this it's gonna fight ya tooth n nail. Some newer 4t bikes come with hot start kits installed, make sure that's not accidentally engaged when cold. And if you're kicking it over like 70 times and it's not firing, up try turning the engine over slowly until you feel the compression stroke fighting you. Keep pushing till the pressure let's up slightly, and then jump and kick into the starter using both gravity and muscle power. If you've got an injected bike leave the throttle closed unless specified to crack it in the manual, these newer bikes don't like throttle on startup. Carbed engines don't mind a smidge of throttle, particularly two strokes. But it sounds to me you're having a lack of fuel, spark, and or also compression, I'd consult your manual for further information. Could be something as simple as the spark plug being too loose, or something silly like cellophane on the air filter from assembly.

The real problem is that -280°C is less than 0° K, so it’s simply impossible to do, every molecule is absolutely static for thermodynamic’s laws and that’s why engines destroys as soon as you start them Moreover, I think beamNG let starts cars because you start them with engine already heated and only few seconds after changing the temperature… You should wait 10 minutes between every change and then try again

That's actually wrong. If you set the temp in the game, let's say -10C and fast forward game time you'll see that cars take much longer to start. I remember watching a video about that; some youtuber tries to start cars around that temp in the game and they take a lot of time to start. I think what's happening here is although air temp is low, cars are not yet cold enough to have problems starting. Wait for a long enough time and try this again, you'll see different results.

Given the diesel rough idle, they likely have a placeholder for engine temperature simulation, but its not worked on yet. When programming anything, you generally put in framework and placeholders for the things you want to add, and you come back to them later after you've finished fleshing out the core components. The Beam devs have done most of the core pieces so now they're visiting the smaller things that add even more realism to an already awesome game.

I think the only reason the cars had trouble with -270 temps is because the air density was severely changed. The required fuel from the injectors was way out of the scope of what they could provide so you were running way too lean and the engine efficiency went to crap. If you look at the airspeed indicator in an app you can see that they do model the air density. If you set the temp below 15c and drive at sea level, the airspeed will read higher than the ground speed, varying depending on how much lower than 15c you go due to increased air density flowing over the "sensor". Temps above 15c have the opposite effect.

Hell nah at -20 celsius most vehicles would struggle with cold starts at least a little. Where i live in the midwest we’ve seen as low as -35 celsius and i can say with certainty that almost every vehicle would struggle starting especially diesels if the fuel hasnt been treated so it wont turn to gel.

My 10 year old MPFI Hatchback has enough brains to idle at 1500-2000RPM during cold starts. And my Diesel SUV would guaranteed not start at less than freezing, as Diesel clumps and turns into gel at low temperatures without additive.

I think the effect of temperature is not properly simulated. There's no way the engine from a semi will start at -250 ºC like it's a summer day. Then they lock up all of a sudden. Also, it allows you to set temp to "-280 ºC" which is undefined. Minimum temperature in the universe is 0K (around -273 ºC)

280 below is the limit since -273.15'C is Absolute Zero. Even at -100'C, the tyres ought to be down around 11 psi and somewhat flat-looking, then at -200'C they should be 21 psi down and thus at around only 11 psi, basically flat at that point, but with proper tyre extreme-low-temperature damage simulation the tyres would crack and break apart at around -60'C since rubber loses elasticity at that temperature and the first light-moderate bump would shatter the tyre. Likewise, the battery, being lead-acid in basically all cars still just a different internal cell makeup, lose 35% of their cranking power at 0'C and by -18'C lose 60% of their cranking power. Thankfully, even if reduced in amp-hours charge, they have a lower coulombic efficiency and thus warm up a little bit under a cranking load, which is why a successful cold start has a slow crank that gets a bit faster and then the first combustion strokes happen to make it faster until idle speed is reached and the engine becomes self-sustaining as the throttle opens up to cold-high-idle speed. One thing of note, in extreme cold it would be cool if just having your lights on would make the difference between running out of electricity under starting or actually making it to idle. At around -40'C is when the older cars' fuel lines should start to freeze and make starting nearly impossible, especially problems with the carburetor jets both with partially frozen fuel and a very lean fuel mix from the cold, dense air. Maybe -60'C for newer cars would be okay due to modern fuels but it would have fuel problems with partly frozen gas being shot out of the injectors, little frozen crystals in the gas of the parts like Nonane at -50'C and Octane (the main component of gasoline beside Heptane's -91'C) at -57'C. Gasoline actually starts to turn into a gel at -100'C and by -200'C its all solid flammable ice. At -35'C is when diesel fuel begins to turn to gel so that's a problem trucks have had to deal with for decades. In terms of the oil, higher performance car engines ought to have more trouble starting since their race oils have a worse cold weather rating but a better high temperature rating, they are designed for high revs and high throttle, while economy cars use lighter oils that get too viscous when hot but they stay viscous and not gel-like in really cold weather, cold enough that the battery is the primary concern. On the subject of electric cars, Lithium-ion stops charging at full speed at 0'C, so regen braking starts to fail in the winter unless you're burning power to keep the cells warm. Some cells can go as far as -4'C and do full charge rate, but its inadvisable due to permanent cell damage below those temperatures, which Beam could simulate as a damage value reducing cell maximum charge as well as current charge level in concert with each other. Edit: By around -20'C the lithium batteries have lost about half of their discharge rate and capacity. By -40'C they just stop, like they chemically stop working from the temperature/charge/discharge graphs I've been able to find. Electronically they would just stop discharging when the cells go below -20'C or if they go above 60'C. By around -30'C the battery is down nearly 70% of its full power, and as it gets colder you'd notice easily the decreasing power output as the acceleration gets slower and slower until the car stops being able to overcome rolling resistance and the ever-increasing gear-reducer oil thickness, that is assuming the battery protection could be disabled via a car setup option or the min/max temperature values adjusted, get to see the battery explode when you overheat it from repeated drag races without a cooling break. That'd be fun. For all types of engines, a general temperature that the transmission oil freezes at would be around -90'C (that is too thick for the internal pump to even move it), so electric cars would fail to move or move very poorly at those temperatures presuming their batteries can even hold a charge (not likely), gas engines would maybe creep forward if you can work the clutch properly or just stall the engine in an auto (presuming the engine can even run with nearly gelled gas), and a diesel wouldn't even start at all but presuming it could it would creep slowly or wreck the gearbox from the high engine torque in the low-end. Differential fluid doesn't really seem to freeze (Google has literally no data available like WTF) but around -45'C is when it's too thick to drive with. An optimal mixture of 70% antifreeze to 30% water for the coolant freezes at -65'C, or for a 50/50 mix at -37'C, its all quite interesting the stuff that can go into this. Funnily enough, power steering fluid freezes at the surprising temperature of -3'C because its ethylene-glycol based, like how pure antifreeze alone freezes at -17'C but when mixed 70/30 with water that goes down to -65'C, power steering fluid has a high freezing point, though since the pump is right on the engine block it warms up very fast so its not really a problem. At -103'C is when the A/C refrigerant solidifies, with it liquifying at -26'C. Seriously, cars are interesting shit and I love them.
