Extreme heat takes toll on Arizona cacti

July was the hottest month on record for any U.S. city, and in Arizona, plants that typically thrive in the desert, like Saguaro Cactus, are losing their arms, turning brown, and falling over altogether. FOX 10's Stephanie Bennett reports.

For a heat stressed saguaro, that limb sure looked plump enough to have survived. Maybe they over watered and the limb couldn't take the weight. Seen that happen in in my own neighborhood with saguaros. Also the one right next to it looks diseased.

I agree. All of my Saguaros look great. They get thinner in a drought, and much lighter…. Unless you WATER the darn thing. Probably midwesterners that just don’t know. Lmao

Funny that the 'wild' saguaros that would have lived their lives as Nature provided rather than Man ove rwatering for over-fast growth .... seem pretty okay.

This happens when you water your Suguaro. Other reasons too like; poor soil make up, bugs, humans, chemicals… Watering cacti during a drought is dangerous, because the cacti need to loose weight during the heat. Excess watering leads to excess weight.

Lies, even FOX is deceitful. Normal temps are now labeled "Boiling" climate. Its going to be actually cold here tonight...mid 40's for night time lows...Minnesota
