People who have never been through a hurricane will never understand. The weeks after are really difficult. no power for weeks no way to really get around if you don't have gas, most of the time you run out of food and water. it's just a really bad time

When we got hit by Fran my dad had to BBQ for two entire days because he was on some silly food order plan scheme and we had a second freezer filled with shit, I just remember him standing outside in 100 degree heat at 90 percent humidity in sweating like crazy with the lawnmower sound of the generators going and just pouring sweat, cursing, cooking and cooking trying to salvage that meat it was hilarious but I certainly did not laugh in front of him at the time.

Great video, I've been through several and Wilma was the worst. The ear piercing low rumbling roar of the strongest storms creates intense vibration and I applaud your ability to steady the camera.

Excellent stuff, Harvey was another memorable storm for the US. I just wish there was a video of the "electric eyewall" too. Folks in Barbuda probably saw something similar last year inside the eye of the even more powerful Irma.

Wow I'm very surprised that nothing came crashing through your windows. As far as the buildings does anyone know what the 2nd one is? The 1st I was able to identify as what used to be a carwash before it was destroyed that second one though all I can think is it was an office of some sort judging by the vending machine and shelves.

the maximum sustained winds (gusts for a minute or longer) in New Jersey were about 55 to 60mph from Sandy, these are at least twice as strong, 120 to 130, which is the difference between exciting (category 1 or 2, or in Sandy's case, tropical force winds) and scary to terrifying (category 4 and 5). I've been through the eye wall of a 2 and a 3 which were exciting (and the 3 was a bit scary at times, but mostly awe inspiring) and a 4 (Hugo, not in the eyewall) which even 70 miles from the eye wall was much scarier, we didn't watch Hurricane Hugo we got away from the windows and hid in the hall. Harvey was definitely way more intense in the eye-wall than Sandy, was in New Jersey, wind-wise, I mean just look at this video and you can tell.
