I am an extreme minimalist that is currently living with under 80 possessions. The only reason I know this is because I have been downsizing to fit all my possessions in my 28 litre backpack. I do not think minimalism is about the counting of items. However, I think there is a fun spectacle element to it. That I personally enjoy doing as a Video Maker. I also practice mindfulness & slow living.
In recent years I have come across several larger minimalist channels that have counted their items for fun. Such as Matt D’Avella & Samurai Matcha. Furthermore, I have also seen some smaller channels actually live with what I would call a ‘super’ extreme amount of belongings. Such as Craig and his 10 litre life channel. There are of course other extreme minimalists out there like, Robin Greenfield with 47 items. Youheum Son, whom at one point had about 82 possessions I believe.
The truth is I find it fascinating what some people can comfortably live with and without. I like to learn about the simplicity of not owning or having many things. But also the trials that can also accompany these low amounts of possessions. As obviously there is then also a lack of convenience. That sometimes arises with owning less. I like to do these trials to learn about my own comfort levels and how to balance my having of possessions with the energy taken to take care of belongings.
I am also intrigued with the idea of traveling very minimally, even if it isn’t a realistic endeavour for day to day life. The bum bag travel challenge for an extended period of time, not just 7 days, is my objective. Which is why I would like to trial it at home first. I will be doing this for 30 days. This video marks the half way point (almost). l will also share my final thoughts and discoveries on this super extreme minimalist way of life.

Hello I like how your experimenting. Have you considered a buff? Youcan use it in your hair, but you can also use it as a neckwarmer in colder temperatures or as a headband ... It really is a nifty multifunction piece of my everday carry gear. I had some with a piece of fleece on them too. But I seperrated them into a lighter buff and fleece inner piece for winter times only

A couple of places where my mum went on holiday she even left clothes they’d used for holiday ( washed and dried) as it helped the people cleaning their room out. So when you are out and about travelling you could do that. Same with a book if u don’t take a kindle. Or some places might have a mini library if u are a reader x

I spent 5 weeks round Cambodia and couldn’t cope with constantly washing my hair in cold water or the idea of my fine hair being really greasy, and I had a fringe, so I twisted it all up into loads of mini twists and stuck about 20 hair grips in to hold it in place, I even slept with them in so I could just readjust it a bit in the morning if needed 😂 It worked really well!

@extrememinimalism it's her story about walking across the United States with almost no possessions. Her goal was to spread peace, love and kindness. She never worried about where she would sleep or if she would have food to eat because people always welcomed her and basically supplied her with food and lodging. It really is an amazing story that I am not doing justice too.

😂 I have 16 days from today still - I’m hoping it will be easier now the weather has picked up. 😊 I’ve not had a garden since I was a child. Always living in cities. I think when I eventually move I would like a garden. I would have maybe a little cultivated side that is like a little Japanese garden. Not lots of ornamental things but maybe stepping stones etc. making use of natural things. Then maybe a wild area full of wild flowers. Then a little herb garden as I love my fresh herbs. If I had actual land I’d also have a go at growing my own veg 🥕 🥔 🧄 😊

@@SagelifeMinimalism I went to a park today and their pathway in a hidden spot was a group of wood, then a group of stones, then a regular pathway, then a group of bark etc. It was something I would love as a barefoot enthusiat. So far I have 10 garden tools, with the aim to get at least 2 more and a goal to create a really basic, extreme minimal grassed garden.

That was strange yes. It is a very old building. (200 years old) and the door behind me opens itself all the time too. It’s done it on a few videos. Other times we hear noises that sound like someone entering the main door. But then there’s no one there. Also, when we dog sit the dog hears things too 🐕 🐾. I’m not sure what I believe but it is very odd. I do like to think old buildings have energy.

I have described that these background items are not my personal possessions. I live in a shared home. In the first video of the series I also mention that although these items are shared. I wouldn’t be considering them what I would take in my bum bag to travel. As I would be either eating out, or staying in air bnb’s & hotels where things like this were provided. Ie: they would also provide bedding, towels etc.

That’s what I’m attempting to do now 😊 It’s 14 days as of today and it’s the longest I’ve ever gone without straightening it. To be fully honest I’m finding it really difficult because of the combination of having very thick volumous hair and dry skin. Because my hair is so volumous and curly it constantly touches my face and then makes me itch my face constantly. I am going to attempt to let my fringe grow out and also attempt this again at some point. As I think the fringe is the thing making this more difficult 😂. I’m determined to complete the 30 days without though 😂

I’m a minimalist for almost two decades now. However, I’ve seen quite a few of your videos in the last year and it seems that you are almost obsessive about the items you own and how few you can get down to. I’m a bit concerned about your mental health. This obsession isn’t healthy and it isn’t the point of minimalism. I’ve gone back and forth about whether to comment for months now. I just hope you are well. 💛

It may seem to some that I am decluttering a lot. However, I have big breaks in-between where I don’t declutter anything for quite along time. I also am not sure whether you missed the video a few months back where I mentioned I was trying to declutter as much as possible, as we intended to travel and emigrate. So I am using this run up time to figure out what I would either like to pack and take, or store to ship or declutter. I also did another video a few weeks back about how I enjoy being an extreme minimalist but living in this very small home has been overwhelming, as there is just nowhere to put anything. Which is what has prompted my partner & I to start decluttering more & sooner rather than later. I discussed how I think a few people had commented things similar to this because it’s not often extreme minimalist channels actually show the descent into extreme minimalism from perhaps regular minimalism. Right from the beginning of my channel I always said this was my aim. However I think there seems to be two types of minimalist content out there. Minimalism channels that focus on decluttering & home organisation. Then extreme minimalists that only start their channel when they already have an extreme minimalist home. So no one sees the process. I think some people may find the process shocking because it may be hard to believe people want to part with more possessions when their home is already minimal. But I actually feel happier than ever before because it means we are getting closer to leaving & preparing for our future. I hope this clears some things up & eases your concern. Thank You for caring enough to comment 💚 😊
