Worked at skag dealership 9 years. Would not recommend a scagstander! A ton of problems with upright frame cracks and pump and hydro failures .Scag new they had alot of problems (to bad) ! Suckers

Wow really Jack? I've never had any problem with my Skag/s since 2015 ... except ignition switch, tires deck spring broke on my 36 inch one time

@@eagerlawncare3700 the turf tigers and cheetahs , walk behinds are great mowers. We had this customer they had standers 6 maybe pumps,motor s . The up rite frame-plate to thin, stress cracks. They traded for Wright standers. I’d shy away from kohler EFI engines.

I am happy to see that more manufacturers are working on comfort levels for these mowers. Ferris used to be the only game in town that effectively improved ride quality.

I was surprised by this video...almost seemed unbelievable. I own a scag vride and that thing is an absolute beast. Once I noticed they had the seat setting on firm the whole time i realized they were being biased towards Toro. I'm sure the Toro is a great machine, but don't let 1 video sway you away from scag. Check them out in person first. Scag makes some really nice mowers and is worth a look. I use my scag vride commercially and have put 500 trouble-free hours on it. Lots of tall wet grass.

That has nothing to do with the scag bogging down in grass despite having a more powerful mower. The taller grass test was the best test they did.

It seems unbelievable because it is unbelievable. I have never bogged down a SCAG in much thicker and wetter grass than shown here. This is simply false advertising by a Toro dealer.

There both awesome!! But one reason the scags bogging down is because he has the deck latterly scalping the ground, the Toro's up several inches you can clearly see it by the sky view..

Don’t think I have ever seen a more biased video. I have operated both Toro and Scag and can say Toro is a great machine but doesn’t hold a candle to the Scag. I run a Cheetah 31hp Koehler efi and have no bog with similar grass conditions. I haven’t operated the new Kawasaki 38 but this doesn’t look good for it. Tall, wet morning grass is where the Scag velocity deck outshines all other brands.

I have the kawasaki 38 and it's amazing! It kicks ass in tall wet grass never slows down total bull of a video. That grass is dry it will blow thru that stuff

Just need to clarify a few Miss statements by the reviewer. Scags spindles are some of the few left in the industry that are fully rebuildable. $60 will get you bearings and races and seals to completely rebuild a Scag spindle. Possibly the reviewer is overstating the cost to make the Toro appear to be a better value. I have owned and used Toros extensively in my business and they are fine machines No Doubt. However they are no less prone to failures and needing regular maintenance than any other Mower on the market. Also when I switched to Scag from Toro I did not notice reduced cutting quality or the inability of the deck to cut tall difficult grasses with ease. Also Kawasaki engines with fuel injection should be approximately 20% more efficient than their carbureted versions of the same horsepower rating. Although these two Kawasakis in the review were of different horsepower , the fuel efficiency of both units should have been much closer due to the larger motor being injected. Again it would seem that the reviewer is tilting the scales to make the Toro look like a lower cost per hour to operate machine. Since this gentleman appears not to sell Scag it comes down to the old saying " consider the source" and speaking of warranties we all know they are only as good as the paper they are written upon. The gentleman is right in one assertion however , you should always buy your commercial equipment local , there will come a time when your local dealer may make a difference in you finishing out the day or going home and losing money. Due diligence is needed before the purchase is made, try a bunch of different machines, make sure the dealer is capable of backing them up with timely service and reasonable prices.

Both mowers if compared to the others equal size counterpart (engine size,deck,horse power) price tag too. They both have pros and cons. In an open field ATLEAST for the size jobs I get using a stander or a Bobcat Walk behind they go plenty fast. But if I get a cemetery I recently bid on I'd love to have New mower for the feilds bout 3 1/2 acres I want a reliable sit down that can hit 8-12 mph while getting best mileage I can get

I'm not loyal to any one brand. Honestly I think they're all nice. I've never even owned a 0 turn. I did demo a tiger cat back around 2016 and I really liked it. That toro is a good looking piece of kit.

Cool made video. My complaint is the biased feeling on one mower than the other. I like to always give a super fair unbiased comparison, no matter what I sell or like. While watching this would have loved to see the bad boy rogue and the Ferris is3100 mixed in with these. Also the suspension adjusted to the softer ride on the Scag. I have been a Scag dealer for 3 years and I can honestly say I have never sold a deck bearing or a spindle for a Scag period. I know they go out we haven’t seen any. When they do the deck bearings are $13.99 each. I couldn’t see anyone ever having to buy a complete spindle unless they let the bearings be out too long, or just by breaking it hitting something.

I agree about the biased review. They sell Toro so it's no wonder the Toro got the darling treatment. For the "gnarly stuff" test, they actually had the Scag deck as low as it would go. You can see that when he's "showing the bog" and popping the deck with the foot pedal. Crap review Main Street...not a fair test.

I have the 2022 scag cheeter 2. I use it cut a 4 acre field, grass 3 to 5 ft. tall thick grass and it plowed through it with ease.

My 2006 turf tiger has 2700 hours on it now. I have replaced one spindle in that time because it was getting a little loose. Scag for me.

Have a 2019 Cheetah 37hp Vanguard 61" deck and tested it out when new on a friends neglected deer camp with grass and weeds 1' to 2' high and never had a problem bogging down even in the areas soggy with ground water from springs flowing but must admit we cut probably no more than half speed.

The 4000 has 9” spindles with a top and bottom guard, a hex blade driver that prevents damage to the spindle and mower deck, I have priced for all three complete spindles at $357 as it comes in separate parts.

Did it ever occur to you to raise the deck on the Scag? You can plainly see when comparing the Scag is way lower, there were spots when you did the second field the blades are hitting dirt in the Scag. After cutting the Scag mowed area has no green lawn left it’s set so low. Maybe you should compare the actual deck height vs where the settings on the mower say there at. Toro mowers are set higher then most on same setting.

I have a Toro TimeCutter 52” with the MyRide system. It’s 4 years old. It is a fantastic mower! I believe it has the 23.5 HP engine. I don’t mow in all out high speed, because I only mow my residence, and don’t need to be “time critical” efficient. The blades are Gator mulching blades. I’ll just say, I don’t have a problem mowing, even if I let the grass in my field get to be 12” or longer. I set the deck at 3.5” and cut away. Very rarely do I need to double cut the grass to get it perfect. Usually it’s one cut and done. Great mower, well worth the price. Sometimes I think about a Toro Titan, but I think that’s really all about getting mower with a rollover bar, that’s just a cool look, though completely unnecessary for me! lol. This was a good episode! Very entertaining!

That’s the first thing you remove the rollover bar ,they had to put that on there for the people in the Swiss Alps , most dangerous thing in the world on a lawnmower. I had one catch a lower branch on an apple tree when it slipped off it hit me in the back of the head like a like sledgehammer, I took my rollover bar and threw it in the dumpster 😊

This video is pieced together nicely and is good entertaining content. I thoroughly enjoyed it but I feel these tests weren’t even and biased towards Toro. The Z master looks badass and I’m sure it’s a great machine but that Scag was scalping all day in the field. There were spots that were just dirt left after he went through. Hell my buddy has a hayfield in PA (lots of fescue/alfalfa) and we wanted to have a bonfire up there and I took my 15hp Kawi Scag walk behind up and I still couldn’t clog the chute. It was 3-4 feet high and grass was flying everywhere. After the first two passes knocked down the super tall stuff I was cutting at full speed and if that little Kawi can hit that without bogging I have a hard time believing a 38HP can’t handle 13 more inches of deck. Discharge is where the velocity decks shine. Maybe that chute didn’t help. I never have that thing down in open areas but I’ve been feeding my yard nitrogen all year and cut it from 6-8 inches high down to 3.5 after long rains few times with the chute and it still didn’t bog like this cheetah was. If these actually are the results that’s fine but this is the internet and anything is possible. Footage from both mowers where we can hear the motors as well as see the deck settings would help next time. There was a lot of footage of the Scag bogging out in that field but really none of the Toro.

Definitely a biased review they are a Toro dealer. They was wrong about the miles an hour and they was wrong about the engine being underpowered. They are acting like a Thirty-One has more power than a 38 LOL don't have to be very smart to figure that one out. Not to mention they talk about their cheaper blade spindles that's because they are made in China. Scag blade spindles are made in-house in Mayville Wisconsin.. This is a global company. Established in the United States in 1914. There is also a company in Xiamen, China, which specializes in producing this equipment for them

Great comparison and in many ways surprising. both were on my shopping list, would love to see similar comparison between the toro 4000 and the Spartan equivalent. The result of that comparison would be my next mower. Thanks for you great reviews.

Is Spartan really a legitimate competitor? What is going to be the longevity and after sales support? I too would like to see how they line up but remember the most important part of any mower is the dealer behind it in the end.

@ Carlos. Yes dealer is very important, unfortunately many other brands are not available for several month if even then. several local dealers have turned to brands they can sell now like RedMax, Spartan, Kubota, Hustler. toro 4000 and bobcat not available for 4 to 6 month

Loved the comparison vid of these 2 mowers. I didn’t see any bias between each job performed? But, I don’t run either mower, so I’m not biased myself. I’d actually like to see the exact same comparisons throughout the commercial mower lines! Apples to apples as y’all did w/those 2 mowers. Most of my customers have rough terrain to mow. So, the suspension is a must for me!! I run a 36hp 72” Bad Boy, 32hp 72” Ferris, & a 27hp 54” Spartan. On my personal comparison of my mowers, the Ferris has the best ride, worst fuel economy, has to have sharp blades! The Bad Boy is generally my “go to” mower, I believe it’ll cut grass w/2x4’s bolted on it? I believe the blade speed is faster. Discharges the grass further & better, doesn’t bog down on wide open mowing. The Spartan is the most fuel efficient, it also loves sharp blades, but is the roughest? It has the 360* seat & rear suspension only, w/radial tires. I’ll check the channel for similar comparisons?

I have the same Skag mower, almost never boggs very strong engine. I even cut small trees with it. I think maybe you need a tune up. Sorry to be negative about your test.

I'd like to see an independent, unbiased review. You've said in your videos, that you are bias toward Toro. I own a Scag Cheetah II and it doesn't bog down like it did in the video. Not nocking the Toro, but ya'll were sandbagging the Scag!

I worked with a 26HP EFI Kawasaki last year and had similar issues. I'm thinking it could be how the Kaw EFI is working with the Scag... Either way, I can attest to this being an issue.

Just Got my Skag Cheetah II 72" with the Vanguard engine delivered yesterday. Got my 4 acre yard mowed before the storm hit and if I say so it looks fantastic. I also have a Cheetah 61 with the Kawasaki motor and this new cheetah felt awesome. Also I was wondering if it takes a lot of practice to talk out of both sides of your mouth at the same time. Caught it a couple of times but for instance (Do you really want your crew to be driving 16 mph, I'm sure the toro can mow faster than the skag as he shacks himself like he is having a spaz attack. Its obvious he sells toro and not skag. Any used car lots out there that need a new salesman looks like a top candidate. I'm not a Skag fanboy but I have owned three of them and they have all done me good. Confession I did get intrigued by the Farris with isx but the dealers are all out and and have no idea when you would get it if you ordered one. Skag Best in Cut Quality and build like a tank.

I just bought a used ex commercial fleet scag tiger cub with a 52 in deck for 750 and it still runs and mows with the kawasaki. I know scags a good brand so figured i go cheap and just see how it does. Oh btw its got 2700 hours on a 19 hp kawasaki and still going

Every one of the tests in the vid are tainted, the first has the seating the skag set at the firmest setting, the second has different cutting hights as well as the third test if you look the scag is set so low they were scalping dirt with the blades it was set so low, but the toro never once hit the dirt. Smh

I looked at one of these toros today and liked it a lot it’s very comfortable but couldn’t pull the trigger on buying it as I have yet to see a review on how well it will hold on a hill. Seems like it sits higher than my husqvarna pz60 and turf tigers. Great price on them and you get a lot of mower for the money and I might end up with one once they have been out longer and have more reviews.

I think that the scag with the 38 creates too much suction and holds the grass in the deck longer. Had that issue mowing tall grass with my mulch kit on my 61 inch vride2. I noticed it mows better if you throttle down

I am on my second Skag Tiger Zero Turn and the first one I had 956 hours on it. The only reason I traded it in was they gave me $6,500 for it and the new one was on sale. I now have over 900 hours on it and I have never had a problem with either one. I also bought two more for my company and never had a problem with either of them. Skag, great machines! J.R.

Be honest, this is a sales video. Toro makes a great machines. If you guys want to really test machines pull in the other dealers to demo each other’s machines. You look like hacks doing theses videos. Sell on merit, if y’all wanna dog the competition just throw up a paid for “the brothers selling toro” I’ve worked at golf courses running toro and they were great. This is off-putting however and I’ll not not buy a “bro”o

Scag suspension platform it’s adjustable, you guys have it on the firmest settings... but you probably know that...

I have owed 4 scags in the past 20 years. Cub, Cat, Turf Tiger & Cheetah 2 with 38.5 Kawasaki engine. They are as advertised, Simply The Best.

The Scag is engineered to keep the grass up in the air under the deck. So there will be less grass clippings.

Holy shit what an abusive test! I feel violated. Good presentation of how deck volume affects cut speed! If it cant process fast enough dont matter how much power ya got. Just gonna go to heat in the spindles and belts. That chamfered deck really scoops up the grass. Id be very interested to also see husqvarna 560x mower against these two. Great video man!

Thank you. Appreciate the kind words. As for the abusive tests, we do not recommend anyone doing tests like these at home. No matter what brand of mower you own, none of them are designed to be put through condition like the ones demonstrated in this video.

How did toro design the frame around the hydro vent plug? Some mowers with the 4400/5400 its hard to get to. What is the procedure when theres only 1 expansion tank for both hydros?

You could see on the cutting portion the Scag deck was way too low… I had a neighbor of mine to tell me to bring my deck down to 1 1/2 inch to cut a former golf course behind his house and I was literally cutting dirt… Even though it was 1 1/2 inch on his mower I had to raise my deck in order to get an even cut to his. They probably should have looked at that before they tried that test.

I asked a friend who owns a prestigious landscape business. He runs both brands to please customers. He said that he constantly has better luck with the Scag Cheetahs. Consistently running over 4500 hrs with no issues. Plus you can mow wet lawns and so on. He has six mowing crews and no reason to lie. My brother in-law went from Scag to Xmark and right back to Scag. I personally don't trust any company that MTD owns. It seems like they take the quality right out of what we're great products.

was going to purchase the 2021 tiger cat 2 52 with the kawasaki ft730v-efi 26hp but changed my mind and picked up 2021 Toro z master 4000 series pro with the kawasaki fc801v 25.5 hp. haven't mowed any grass yet cant wait but from what I see its alot larger and have the 5yr warranty. Had my dealer order the front mounted led light Also thanks for the epic vid. your vid definitely changed my mind from your info. thx again

@@mainstreetmower Good morning, do you think the 25.5hp is going to perform as well as the 31hp that you tested. Going to use the 4000 for bagging grass and leaf clean up all season in suburban up to 1/4 acre lots. definitely not going to be cutting down 🌽 fields. lol

I own a mower with that kawasaki 38.5efi that thing is not bogging down in that dry grass . I run it in east coast tall wet grass and never boggs out power is consist. My other mowers with carb engines will bogg but not that one. Also when you don't adjust the seat suspension it will be a rough ride. I think this is a bit one sided.

Great machine, took it out 1st cut on properties and left quality stripes with no bogging even with the 25.5hp. wondering why it doesn't have the deck adjustable baffles on each side like the grandstand?

For years we thought that the baffles were necessary for proper airflow on a mower. However, the TORO 4000 doesn't have it, and still everything seems to be working better than fine. We would love for a TORO engineer to chime in on this.

We actually tested 2 Toro's at the farm pasture. (We are also a Toro dealer.) 1 with the baffles, and one without, yet identical engines. We found that the machine with baffles was slower than the machine without in heavy conditions. Then in lighter conditions, the machine with baffles gave us finer grass clippings. Our conclusion is if you are interested in having fine clippings and the best finish on a pristine yard. Use the baffles. If you are mowing heavier or wetter grass, remove the baffles. The great thing about Toro is that the baffles are only bolted in and can easily be added or removed. Either way, you get the best mower deck I have ever cut with in my opinion. Now that last statement was biased I admit, and a lot of contexts are needed based on what you are mowing and what is important to you. (We have tried many decks in the course of deciding what we want to sell and Toro Turbo Force is our preference.)

@@mainstreetmower seen that vid already 👍🏻👍🏻 I’ve got a question. The hydro gear tank to the left of the motor. When mower is cold it should be showing fluid just at the cold fill line correct ? I’ve put fluid in two or three times and after use and cooled off there isn’t any fluid in the reservoir.

However, I only have two more summers to live, and despite the fact that I currently have a great ExMark (bought Toro last decade), I think I'm going out with either an Altoz track wheel or the latest electric mower by MeanGreen (very little maintenance)! I really like the 4000 with the my ride, I want the model with the 52 in. deck. As far as I know, there's only one dealer in Savanah GA. But I live in Brooklet GA so it's roughly 50 miles from me. I'm pretty sure we have a dealer in Statesboro that sells them. The only problem is that just about everywhere you go, inventory is really low right now. Anyway, if I can find one, I'm sure going to try and demo

My father is great friends with the head of the hydrogear testing department at one of their factories. He still claims Scag is number one to this day. I reckon he should know since he is testing mowers all day every day at work lol.

I"M sure they are both great mowers. I'm currently shopping as I type this. I cant help but to expect a little bias as I watch this video and then go to his website and see all RED paint. I've talked to guys that mow commercially and have for several years that have used Exmark, JDeere, Toro ,Scags and Cubs all of the commercial variety. In speaking to them the general consensus was that they would def buy SCAG mowers AGAIN for what they do. Warranty didn't seem to concern them as they said dealers treated them well with loaner units while repairs etc. were being made.

I just went on their channel and they sell Toro. Definitely biased. I have a Scag Liberty Z that would blow through that grass with no problem so I know a Chettah wouldn’t even break a sweat on that lawn. This test looks a bit fishy. Also how is the Scag rated at 12mph-16mph and the Toro is up to 12mph and it’s blowing past the Scag so easily? Just not adding up.🤔

My only question is why you got the scag with a bigger engine? I've been into ferris for years, but this time we are going with the 31hp scag with a 72" deck. My demo of it we cut some grass that was about a foot tall and never had any issues bogging down going at about 75% speed. I do not appreciate biased information from dealers trying to sell. I would rather hard facts. When you see a mower shooting a line of dirt and your supposedly on 3.75 inches cutting height it should look just like how the aerial view of the Toro was barely any dirt.

Even though you physically matched the depth settings on both zero turns, sometimes they're not that accurate. You should have measured the decks to ground with a ruler to make sure they were the same. The Scag deck seemed to be too low and dragging ground. That said, the Toro had the better ride suspension system, which can be a plus if you're out there for several hours. Good effort and video.

After watching your review I would take the Toro hands down. The quality seemed to be as close as the Scag and the ride comfort and techical ability to cut high grass and throw it out there more efficiently is a big draw for me.

In the market for a new 72 , I’m between the lazer z or the toro 6000 . Sat in the cheetah and couldn’t get over how bad and uncomfortable the seat was . Literally the most uncomfortable seat I’ve sat in , which is a shame .

Cut tall fescue all day, was on exmark/toro for ten years. Scag blows them away. Discharge is way too small for fescue on toro exmark.

It looks like the scag was cutting lower. But also one big thing is to check to see if these engines are both set right to run at 3600 rpm because every single brand new mower i have bought was not set correctly to run full throttle at 3600 rpm. If it is running lower then 3600 you are not getting the power that the engines are rated for

Recommend that you get someone who knows the Scag to explain it as opposed to comments like "what's this? does anyone know what this is? Although I would like to listen to a critical review of this "rival", I believe I will find another video to watch. Also, I'm sure a lot of people like your presentation with all the cackles and jokes, I prefer they be left for people looking for that type of presentation.

The Scag looks like it is built with thicker guage steel thereby weighing more, hence the bigger motors.

Pretty clear from the cut comparison the velocity deck was not properly leveled, hence the bogging and it should have been a HDX toro 4000 so both machines had the same HP power stealing 5400 hydro gears...
