I encourage anyone watching this to respect the water and take this kind of wading seriously. It takes time to get your bearings and things can go south quick if you’re not familiar. It might seem like I’m playing hopscotch across these rocks and I don’t want anyone getting the wrong idea.. hope you all have/had a great salmon season! We should still see good numbers of fish for a little while, but I think I’m going to focus on shinier things from here on out - we’ll see... good luck out there, thanks for watching 👊🏼

I've been all over Michigan I'm from Warren. I mostly fish from Southern Lake Huron to Lake Erie. I've been to the west side of the state the least. I miss Chinook fishing since the disappeared from lake Huron.

I think they make felt soled wading shoes for the stocking foot waders for another $150 or so--I bought cheap shoes at the Walmart and glued felt onto the bottoms for slick rocks. Felt really works well for situations like that--studs might be more for moss covered rocks? Also, ever use a wading/walking staff? Probably would need a felt bottom for that too. Definitely think felt would’ve helped on the flat rocks. They just suck in the winter because you’re basically on ice skates walking over snow and ice

@@Chiefz we used to carry in the felt soles, use walking shoes to get there, then change. You are totally right about how bad they are on snow (or mud!). Cheers man, you're the best.

I just tie a snell knot. Slide the knot down the hook shank and you have an egg loop. A lot more simple than the egg loop

Make sure your leader is long enough to lay right in the gasping mouth of on of these dying salmon. Raise the rod and whammo…. Snagged right in jaw somewhere. In the PNW we call it “salmon ganking”

Bad ass but so dangerous. I know you know what you’re doing and I hate to be this guy but you’re alone and without help. Consider a PFD as corny as it sounds. Also. A wading staff is a huge help, if you slip a bit it’s a third point of contact. Good stuff dude!

Everything you said was valid. No offense taken! Usually keep a wading staff on me, it definitely helps. Might look into one of those low profile pfd’s now that you mention it
