The Aonach Eagach ( 'notched ridge') is a large mountain ridge in the Scottish Highlands, marking the northern edge of Glen Coe. It stretches east-west for several miles and includes two Munro summits: Sgùrr nam Fiannaidh at 967 m (3,175 ft) high, and Meall Dearg at 952 m (3,124 ft) high. The ridge is very rocky and the route along it requires scrambling ability. The slopes to each side are extremely dangerous, with steep grass-and-scree slopes hiding even steeper slopes which end in cliffs on both north and south sides of the ridge.
Aonach Eagach
Aonach Eagach is consistently ranked as the best ridge walk and scramble in the UK and in the top few across the world by National Geographic (allegedly).

Brings back memories - I remember doing the Aonach Eagach some 24 years ago, we had slightly deeper snow and a bit less sunshine than you had but it was a great day. On the pinnacle section we decided to rope up and I decided to try and throw a sling runner over the second pinnacle unfortunately the sling wasn't long enough but in finding that out and then trying to lengthen it I ended up lying on the top of the pinnacle on my stomach as if I'd been skewered on it - elegant I was not. We then missed the descent route by a hundred yards (visibility was not good by then) and ended up on some hairy steep slopes which looked very avalanche prone but we managed to claw back on route after wading through chest high snow. Having got down to the road I had to jog back up Glen Coe to retrieve the car left at the other end of the ridge at the start of the day, so we could then drive back to Glasgow for the overnight train back to London where I had to go straight into work. Enjoyed the video.

We left left home 1am and drive 6 hours to Three Sisters Viewpoint and finish the route for around 9 hours but we spend a lot of time enjoying the views and the sunrise it was spectacular . Luckily we spoke with local people and they gave us tip where to camp hidden from the people and not far from the car and next day we visited some Waterfalls in the area I will upload video from them in the end of the week . Thanks for your great story I can imagine how hectic and euphoric day you had back then . 🙏

Absolutely epic video m8. I have done the ridge in summer with my two brothers many years ago. That was enough of an adrenaline hit I certainly wouldn't try it in winter. Having the Clachaig Inn waiting at the bottom was definitely welcome.

Thank you , I'm planning to do it this summer so I can see the diferents but I'm sure they are big . There was some sections I was feeling super unsafe and I realised if I do one wrong movement or bad calculated step I will be in the history , then my adrenaline was level was really high , but I'm glad we have done it . And as you said the pub in the end is much appreciated after 6 hours drive and around 10 hours hike ... Im glad you enjoy it . Greetings ✌

Thank you so much , I'm glad you felt the adrenaline because it was a lot . I'm definitely going in the summer so I can enjoy the life music in this lovely pub , because at that day I've done the route they had live music but I was really tired and after a drink I just couldn't keep my eyes open. It was long day just because before the climb we had to drive 6 hours to get there and start the climb straight away . Greetings ✌

That was brilliant and brought back some memories. I did it in 2015 in winter in great and very similar conditions like you had at the beginning. Later I came back and did it with my kids in summer. Love that area and love to finish long day in Clachaig as you did🙂 good filming and editing, well done! Cheers Jonas.

I’ve done this solo in summer a few years back and it’s way nicer than all this panting and faffing about with ice ages, ropes and stuff. Seventy one in two weeks so might give it a go when I’m over with my eMTB.

I'm sure in the summer is more welcome , I found it really challenging at some points but anyways amazing , looking forward to do it in the summer as well , and cover the area around , I just love it . But not sure about doing it with Mountain Bike to be honest , sound even more challenging than in the winter climbing for me , maybe because I do not have expirience with cycling in places like this 🤭 Good luck , stay safe and have fun ✌ Greetings

Good effort my friend . As previously said it may not be the most dangerous in uk/ Scotland but it’s certainly very dangerous . The thing about Scotland which makes it more dangerous is the levels and speeds of weather change which I’m sure you are aware of. It can go from a nice spring like day climbing to extreme arctic conditions within minutes at certain times of the year . Well done my friend . Good effort and take care.

Thank you. At some points it was really challenging and difficult . And yes I expirienced how fast can change the weather in the Cairngorms, we tried to go up Ben Macdui , but failed because as we hike up the plateau the weather was horrendous, very strong winds came from nowhere and the visibility was really poor , I was looking infront my legs and I was not sure what I see . So we navigated back to Cairngorms Ski Lifts around 2 hours , but anyways it was great expirience for navigating and have the feeling how small we are up there in the mountains . Greetings ✌

Hello Andy , thank you for you positive comment 😊 I think always is better to do the challenging routes in the summer first so you will be better prepared and know better the terrain even if it's completely different in different seasons , but we all know not always happening . That's why it is good for a person to know himself and his capabilities to avoid unwanted situations and enjoy it on maximum . Have fun and stay safe ! Greetings

@simeonkolevadventures4930 yes, I totally agree. I would be fine doing that during the summer but don't have much experience of winter climbing, so I would need to do it with a guide which I would be happy wihh. I'm looking forward to checking out some of your other videos. ATB Andy

Thank you! As an amateur I would advice you to practise to use crampons and ice axe and learn how to use them properly on some easy walks or even try to use the ice axe on small slope hills and learn how to stop and control you sliding down the hill, in this way you will be prepared for bad scenarios situations , hopefully it won't happend but better to be prepared for everything you can . You can find many video and information online and even if you want to do it with guide you will be better prepared and more confident. Greetings Simeon ✌

@@simeonkolevadventures4930, yes, amazing memories. And sadly one lost friend in the mountains. Adventures aplenty, but with a different focus. Currently in our Microcamper at the end of the Northumberland250 and about to start the South West Coat (of Scotland) 300. We are ‘just for the weekend van life’ and post videos on KZfaq ourselves. They singing was helping a lot hehehehe . It took us around 10 hours ,but at the begining we was really slow , we was stopping and enjoying the sunrise , we didn't rush for nowhere and later when we reach the ridge become harder and slow us at some points because of the terrain or to wait people infront of us , but I think it can be done for around 6-7 hours depends the expirience. But it was amazing and really challenging expirience ! 😊
