I'm your host, Darren Van Dam!
Tired of looking for good movies to watch on Netflix, Amazon Prime or other streaming services? Every week I recommend a handful of the best movies on Netflix, Amazon, HBO etc. so my subscribers never run out of good movies to watch on streaming. Spending 10 minutes watching one of my videos could save you hours of searching, hours that you could otherwise spend watching good movies on streaming that you otherwise might not have ever watched or even known about.
Thanks for watching!

There is a Korean movie about a homicide detective assigned a murder, in Greater Japan (the Empire never collapsed at the end of WWII). The investigation goes down a rabbit hole about time travel and changing the past. Anyone know the name?

I got lucky and caught Naked Lunch in the theater when it first came out. William S. Borroughs (the author of the book the movie is based on), Hunter Thompson and that circle were having a moment back then in the early 90s as independent cinema was becoming more well known in the main stream. It was hilarious to pick out who in the audience knew what they were in for and who didn't. It came out on the heels of Silence of the Lambs and people were hungry for more movies that pushed boundaries 🤣

Yes! I personally think any discussion of Naked Lunch should include how some events in the movie are quite autobiographical, including the death of his wife by "misadventure" when Burroughs unintentionally shoots her himself.

Criterion has done a release of 'Eating Raoul'. To many that's all you really need to know. Sure I had a great mom but she took me to see 'Eating Raoul' for a rewatch after she saw it but she didn't take me to see 'Fast Times at Ridgemont High'. If you want to use that as an 'extreme' meter of sorts. 'Films you may not Want to Watch With Grandma' would be my title for this selection of movies.

It also doesn’t have nearly as much sex as we are lead to believe. In fact, I don’t think there is any nudity at all. Great character development centered on two families working their way through issues and relationships. Yes, there is an affair and yes there is a swap (key) party, but neither are central to the story. Just part of the whole.

@@mycatissoft I saw "The Ice Storm" once, back in the late 90s. I remember they all threw their keys into a bowl, and that Christina Ricci once again knocked it out of the park (as she did in "Buffalo '66), and that overall it was a great movie, but I don't remember too many other deets.

Not sure how I missed Under the Silver Lake, I'm definitely gonna check it out. But I cant help think is the title click bait? am I desensitized? Or is this video made to be toned down as the world that we are in now people get offended over practically nothing. Not sure but none of these movies to me are even close to being "Extremely Graphic", strange or weird maybe but not graphic. Anyways not intentionally trying to criticize but just made me rethink my perspective on what is considered graphic or not. Anyways my takeaway from this is to watch Under the Silver Lake as I haven't watched it so I guess i have gotten something out of it.

You do the best movie reviews - love them. I'm Old - started in the 50's as a Kid when we went to Real Movie Theaters. I was a fan of Nik Cage from the beginning. So when I saw him in Leaving Las Vegas I was telling all my Friends He is going to Win the Oscar for Best Actor. But I turned negative on the Oscars starting in 1993 When Al Pacino got Best Actor. I guess Hollywood did not want Clint Eastwood to have a sweep that night with Unforgiven. I actually thought Robert Downy Jr. was going to get it for Chaplin - He looked and acted like Chaplin reincarnated.I Read that the Studio was not interested in Downy but He dressed up to look like Chaplin walked into their offices - put on a Chaplin routine and was hired on the spot. Downy should have gotten that Oscar. And with what's going on with woke Hollywood/Oscars I have not watched for 5 years and "Completely" forgot about them being on this Year(2024) until Monday morning news !!!
