Willi Mentz was born on 30 April 1904 in the village of Schönhagen, then part of the German Empire. Like his father, he worked in a sawmill and then as a miner. In 1923, Mentz moved to Mecklenburg to train as a milker and he passed his master's examination in this profession in 1929. The same year he married and had 4 children.
In 1932, one year before Adolf Hitler came into power, Willi Mentz joined the Nazi Party and from 1934 to 1940, he worked as a master milker.
The Second World War began on 1 September 1939, when Nazi Germany invaded Poland.

Why on earth was he released because of poor health? He murdered directly or indirectly hundreds of thousands of people. And he got to live most of his life free. He should have been left to rot alone in his cell. It's infuriating when people like that get shown compassion they never showed other people. Urgh.

Disgusts me to no end, how many of these vile people either went scot free or were given lenient sentences.

@@fumblingdetective He was living in West Germany. He would have been receiving free medical treatment whether he was in prison or not. He had been receiving a pension for years before his arrest.

It is always so frustrating to hear monsters such as Willi Mentz never truly paid for his horrendous crimes.

How, after the end of the war, the United States Government decided for some of the worse surviving Nazi war criminals to colaborate with that government.

Should have been extradited to Poland in 1960. He would have been properly "handled" (a Nazi term).

People can become true monsters when the right circumstances are present. Has humanity learned anything from these lessons? Not at all.

Another Nazi nobody. It's the same story over and over. Men, and sometimes women who had never had a position of responsibility over other before the war were elevated to absolute power over 1,000's of defencless civilians. Failures given the power of life and death. Believing there would be no retribution for their crimes they turned into merciless monsters.

It’s even more unfortunate and even disgusting that due to recent events, people are deluding themselves into saying these are apparently justified. These ideological monsters believe the deaths of 6 million men, elderly, women and children were justified, it’s sickening!

Not sure what you’re expecting here. The Nazis had extensive logistics of who/how/when innocent civilians were massacred by the millions. For no other reason than being Jews/Poles/Roma/Disabled. We know that millions others were killed for other political reasons in other decades. But THIS was systematic genocide with no options of work or release. Just torture and death. If you’re looking to point fingers at other atrocities, you could always mention the unspeakable Japanese Unit 731 cruelties towards China. But I don’t think you honestly care. You probably think that Weimar Germany wasn’t that bad, or that Jews kind of had it coming, and immigrants are a form of pestilence wherever they go. I see posts like yours everywhere, basement dwellers with a sense of entitlement. Good luck, hopefully the next culling won’t include YOU and how extra special and important YOU are.

Seems odd that the Russians were hailed as 'hero's after they liberated some camps but had their share of Poland for a while.
@Asger21
@Asger21 Ай бұрын
First the Soviets were not hailed as heroes as they had killed many thousands of Poles and deported even more! Secondly they, Russians still occupy a huge part of Poland but got away with it by "offer" an equal part of Germany to the Poles instead!
