A middle school student of mine was wanting to learn how to make these during her Genius Hour but she was having difficulties. She showed me this video and we put together some wood and clamps to make a mini jig and it worked okay. I went on Amazon and found the jig, ordered two and now this struggling student can make one in one class period! She is soooo proud of herself! Thanks so much for making the great video and making the jig inexpensive enough that I would be able to purchase it for my classroom.

gail miles the jig is fairly easy to make. Basic woodwork skills is all you need. I made mine 1m long. From 12mm pli board. Cut a 6mm slot down the middle. Buy a 6mm coach bolt with a wing nut. Cut two end pieces and glue and screw permanently to one end. The other Block drill a 6mm hole in the middle of the block. Fed the coach bolt through the bottom of the pli board slot and through the wooden block. Tighten with the wing nut. That should make the block slidable up and down your jig. I reinforced mine along the bottom with 20x20x40mm dressed timber. Forming a border. To date it has cost $4 to make. You’ll need a skill and drop saw. And a drill. Cheers Brent

I did like the alternate way to make the 2nd Larkshead, and trying it it does make for a smoother transition in the first knot. But I'll need to practice when I actually try a double-color weave, because I learned a different way to tie a single cobra. Still this was informative, and appreciate you guys for posting it.

I'm thinking a multicolored bracelet would mainly be for decorative purposes. If you needed it in a survival situation you would have two short pieces instead of one longer piece. You could bend the pieces together but it would still be weaker than a continuous line. Overall however, a well made and very instructive video.Thanks!
@Trab9000
@Trab9000 5 жыл бұрын
I would completely agree. I used two colors here as I needed the contrast to show how the bracelet is tied with clarity. For survival, I would just use one piece of cord.

Thank you for the nice comment. As for not marking white cord when burning, the only thing I can tell you is maybe take it very slow but I've never been able to keep white cord from darkening when burning the ends. You could get a white paint marker and just paint the end when you are done. I do that for other colors so it should work for white. Good Luck!

Wouldn’t the burnt ends get hard when cooled and scratch the hell out of your wrist?
@Trab9000
@Trab9000 Жыл бұрын
Great question. If you follow the procedure here you won't have that problem. It might take a little practice on how long you cut the ends ( I typically do about 2mm or 1/8") them when you melt the ends, before it cools, press them in with the metal part of the lighter flush with the cord where it comes out of. Hope this helps.
@IMRad4JC

QUESTION: Hey, Bart, since the burned ends really seem to show on white or light colors of cord, wouldn't it work just as well to use a glue instead like E6000 or the like which is powerful, waterproof, and dries clear? Love this instructional video...I'm gonna try making my own now!
@Trab9000
@Trab9000 6 жыл бұрын
Cindy, I usually use a colored marker to cover up those burnt ends to make the white go away but glue could easily be used also. One note though, I don't like the cords glued down as it makes it harder to get the bracelet apart if you need it in an emergency.
