I just joined a band. On the second jam session I screamed with a bad cold lol, and I felt my false chords seriously strained. What I did was took a week off like you said ( I din't plan to take a week although it was all I needed thankfully) and I started to hydrate TONS and also got adequate sleep and did tons of mindful meditative breathing (Wim Hof's Guided Breathing) and as well as very light lip thrills and I noticed my voice came back to a 100% on Friday. And on Friday, my jam session was at around 7 pm. I took your advice of slowly warming up the voice little by little through different intervals of the day. I also did a good long rest of two hours prior to warming up again for my jam session with my band. I can say that my screams aren't refined as other vocalists, but after the session I felt almost to NO fatigue on my throat and majority of engagement through my diaphragm. Your advice is so underated man. It's like you are helping me along the way with each video release and I am so thankful for what your doing for the world of Metal and future vocalists like me. Would love to take lessons with you one day 🤘❤🔥

You, my friend are the greatest! I first attempted to do extreme vocals when I was 17 back in 2004, and I failed hard for many years after! I found your channel back in February. Your lessons have helped me achieve extreme vocals that I can proudly belt out in public!

Such a great lesson, you really captioned how I dealt with my fatigue when I started screaming, it's very easy to keep practising and getting lost into the "getting better'' process forgetting the most essential part, resting and healing. Love your videos

i just took part in a vocal course by Chris liepe which is absolutely great. One thing i notice is that you use dynamic speaking to keep your vocals in good shape. Beneath the course im sucking in every info i can get and your channel is absolutely informative and great! Keep up the good work man! It´s so easy to listen to you because you´re such a great guy !

Just found this channel, absolutely loving it. Coherent and well researched, please do keep up with this gold mine for vocalists. Meanwhile I'll keep doing my part: practicing, going through these videos, and leaving likes on 'em. Let's get the YT algorithm to pick up on these. BIG love from Finland

I've recently decided to strive for Extreme Vocals, and I stumbled upon your channel before trying anything. It's been a couple days now, I've put in only minutes a piece, and I'm glad I'm watching this video early. I expected to learn how to give my vocals the rest they need, but instead of that I've been given peace of mind and the confidence to just rest and take it easy, that I'm doing it right as long as I'm putting in the days. That I appreciate.

Great philosophy in this video, it's not about the amount of hours you put in, it's about the amount of days. Really this whole video relates to everything in life but there's a lot of things I've learned from physical rehab that you bring up here. Great to hear someone put words to it, I'm just starting out so I'm gonna try to not burn myself out instantly, thanks for the help!

Hi! Maybe someday you will make a video about good vocal chain for reherseal? - Microphone - Speaker and mixer (active or passive) - EQ settings - Compression (Yes or no and how to set) I think it's really necessary if we talking about healthy way to make harsh vocals. Im sure that many poeple have same problem and destroying vocals because of non hearing themselves, straining voice etc, etc. What do you think? Take care!
@ExtremeVocalInstitute

A lot of those things you listed are going to be preference based so it’s kind of hard for us to make a “one size fits all” video! David recommends to his students that when they’re practicing on their own that they practice without music without a microphone to start to feel and learn how the different sounds behave in the space around them. When it comes time to practice with a band the important thing is not to have everyone playing too loud for the space. Since everyone’s practice spaces are going to be different the settings will be different for pretty much everyone We definitely plan on covering some of that stuff in the future but again, everyone has different things available to them in terms of budget and space! - Rilee (co-owner)

I have nodules on my vocal chords from twenty years of abusing my voice and not yelling correctly. It’s looking like I may need surgery but I’ve been on vocal rest for a month now and seen some really amazing progress. Most of the inflammation has went down now. Nodules are still there, but I don’t know if they just go away. Our first show post COVID is in two weeks and I have to say… I am wildly nervous to let it rip again. I don’t sound terrible at practice but it doesn’t feel great either….
@ExtremeVocalInstitute
@ExtremeVocalInstitute 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ryan, so if you’re not feeling great when you practice that’s a sign that you need to stop and seek medical help to determine if it’s safe for you to continue forward. If you’re nervous that’s likely your body telling you that something’s off. Definitely would recommend consulting an ENT if you’re able to and at the very least resuming vocal rest.

I'm so glad I found your channel, I started doing extreme vocals when I was 18 and bought my first extreme metal album, Archenemy - Khaos Legions, but I stopped a few years after for various reasons and now I'm trying to pick it up again. Do you have any advice though, for someone who feels that 27 is "too late" to pursue music like this as more than a hobby?

David, What is your advice for TOURING vocalists in bands to recover between shows which usually are back to back. I have heard about manuka honey and inhalators but what is your process? My biggest fear is losing my voice ln tour😢

@ExtremeVocalInstitute
@ExtremeVocalInstitute 3 жыл бұрын
It’s very common for the voice to take longer to heal. While you were coughing you were putting strain on your entire vocal tract. It may take some additional time for your voice to get back to where you were! Stay hydrated and maybe take it easy for a few more days.
