Developed by Westwood Associates and published by SSI in 1991, Eye of the Beholder and its sequels would be some of the best games to come out of the Gold Box Engine .
With the numerous re-releases of Gold Box titles fit to run on a modern operating system, now is a better time than ever to discover (or re-discover) these timeless classics.

Glad you're enjoying the videos, I'm having a great time making them. My super talented editor just learned how to use key frames a couple videos ago and is having a great time making things roll all over the screen.

I played this game a few years ago. I remember liking it but stopped towards the end. I don’t remember why. The GBA version was one of the first games I picked out for the system. I remember liking that too and finished it. My girlfriend is also terrified of spiders. Whenever we play a board game with spiders in it, I draw alternate art and tape it over the picture plus replace the spider figurine. That’s why our copy of Castle Ravenloft Board Game has “Wizcats” in it, little cat figures in wizard hats that cast Web :)

I definitely feel like the biggest "filter" for the game are the drow tunnels, I may have given up if I didn't have that all seeing eye to help with mapping. That is amazing, I'm just about to start a DND game with some people, I might have to see if I can convince the DM to put some web casting cats in.

Another excellent review, man. I really enjoy the way you talk about the games you review, i can see you are really giving the game a shot and thinking about it. One think i like it is that you talked about the strategic elements of the game, like the fact that there is a thing in the game as the front and back line of characters and how it affects the combat ; i love this elements of tactics and strategy in games, be it rpg, fps, or any other. I will give you a suggestions of games to check out and, if you enjoy it, maybe give it a try : Ravenloft: Stone Prophet, it's a crpg with a very unique setting, being not only in Ravenloft, but also in the egyptian realm of Ravenloft, so it has a distinct appeal to it. Crusader: No Remorse. It's an isometric shooter, where you control a boba fett like gunman in a dark future, with a gameplay that has some tactical elements to it.

Absolutely love a game that has a bit of extra depth to it, a good hack and slash is great but those little strategic details are what keeps me invested. Both Ravenloft games are for sure on my list to play, I think I've figured out a way past the bug in the first one so that is definitely back on the table for me. Crusader I've never played, but I just did a cursory look at it and it looks 100 percent like a game I would love for the channel, absolutely going on the list! Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment!

The Xanather fight is easier if you do NOT push him all the way from the beginning to the trap room Just run past Xanather, go there and wait, he will come over himself saving you a lot of hassle. :)

That's some good advice, I probably could have finished with more than two party members alive had I done it that way!

I wanted to love this game but the only dungeon crawler I've ever liked - I love and still do love it - is Mordor - The Depths of Dejenol. Its a 16 bit Windows game so needs a virtual box but it has a vibe and atmosphere and depth I have not found anywhere else. It should be easily found online but I could send it you if need be! Probably wouldn't make for the most popular video but I think you'd enjoy it!

Just looked it up... I can play as a giant? I'm sold. Legit it looks awesome, I am always on the lookout for a good dungeon crawl.

I don't know how I hadn't heard of this one before, I just watched another short video on it explaining the mechanics and it definitely seems like the type of game you could dump hours of your life into. Amazing recommend!

Great video! Also, love the dorf fortresses, I got most of them. Except Eyepatch. Cant't figure out which clever bastard that's from.

Eyepatch is the result of thousands of hours of research and development by my advertising team. (I made her up ;p)

I didn't know about the all seeing eye version of the game so I'll definetly have to check it out. I've wanted to play Eye of the Beholder after watching Kioskia's playthrough but the whole no map thing turned me off. I have no sense of direction in real life and while I love dungeon crawlers (recently beat Legend of Grimrock 2) the no map thing stopped me.
@aquawalrus

It's absolutely a life saver, the game is probably one of the more maze like I've played, I imagine playing without a map would have quadrupled my play time. The all seeing eye is best with a dual monitor if you've got it!
