Image West Computer Animation Demo 80s

Here's an Image West animation demo from a 3/4 copy. Quality is not great, but material is interesting, lots of ABC stuff, some local stations. Video of staff at the beginning.

21st Olympics was 1976, which seems much more like the era we're looking at here - rather than "80s" as listed in the title. Nevertheless an amazing historical video artifact, and thank you so much for sharing it.

This is just a guess, but I'm thinking this Image West Demo reel is from 1977.

Didn't know that ABC's 70s Star Marquee music and opening billboard style were used for a local movie presentation then (KBAK Channel 29 in Bakersfield, CA, then an ABC station, IIRC; now CBS in that area).

And KBAK-TV Bakersfield, when it was an ABC station did their version of the Star Marquee opening...music as well. KBAK is now the CBS affiliate. And i did see WTNH-TV's "boxy 8" logo.

I remember the one for WDCA-TV 20. "The Great Entertainer". Twenty has since become FOX 5 Plus.

That music at 1:54 is from the late 1970's ABC Classic Night Movie intro!

Based on what was seen in this reel, it appears that Image West was responsible for a large part of WOR-TV's on-air look during the mid-1970s to early 1980s.

They were already famous for the "9 In Space" station ID from 1981 and it looks like they were more than likely responsible for the 4 O'Clock Movie graphics, which the series "Switch" used in this video. This also solves the Monday Night Football graphics in the mid 70s!

Actually, "Switch" preceded "The 4 O'Clock Movie" in terms of which came first, but yeah, that "Switch" open could well have been the basis for WOR's late-afternoon movie skein's graphics. And that "Channel 7 Special Report" graphic cinches it. Not to mention WTVJ's ID being identical to WGN-TV Chicago's "Last Farewell" ID and that used in 1977-78 by WOR.

Anyone know what network/promo campaign(s) the music at 2:23 and 2:33 is from?..can’t tell if its ABC image promo music or not..can’t seem to find it anywhere else to hear more variations/versions of it?

It's not much, but have a look at kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p-CKZMmYr8ywm30.html . It's from KETV 7 in Omaha, NE, one of the stations seen in the demo reel here. And it uses the same promo music as at the points you pointed out.

I always hated the way these effects looked... like cheap video. The same 4 or 5 base effects/transitions and unnatural (linear) zooms just looked amateurish. Nothing beat film.
