In september 1999, while we were prepping the first issue of DVDvision magazine, Tom Cruise & Nicole Kidman landed in Paris for a short press conference on the forthcoming Stanley Kubrick film EYES WIDE SHUT.
DVDvision attended the conference and covered it with 3 cameras. Here's the resulting footage for the 20th anniversary of the film.

Gosh, they were so breathtakingly beautiful in their primes. I was a kid when this movie came out, I remember seeing promos of it on TV. I was told it was controversial and I was too young to see it. Came to see it years later and was blown away, consider it the greatest movie of the phenomenal year that was 1999

Really interesting interview. They’re both so articulate and switched on. It’s clear to see what they brought to the process and how Kubrick enabled that to happen. The result is in my opinion, a masterpiece

It's sad they broke up . They obviously had soo much in common and would have shared many lengthy conversations about their craft , movies , producers , scripts not to mention their children , life , food and everything for their lives 😕

One of my favorite movies ever. I've watched it too many times to keep count. Both are gorgeous & phenomenal actors. I've always been amazed at how sweet and humble Nicole has always despite being an A-list actress.

I think honestly she is no angel...apparently tom cannot have children even suri is not his bioligically which is how katie has managed to get him out of suris life...and nicole admitted she had a miscarriage when he filed for divorce...i trully believe she cheated..!! And hence he doesnt say much ...cos he would have to reveal things he would prefer the world not to knoe..also she had children with keith but not with tom....her biological clock messed it up...!!

Someone posted online that Nicole wasn't pregnant with Tom's child--that it was someone else's child. Nicole then had a miscarriage. I hope that wasn't true. If so, it would make sense that they got divorced.@@efects7429

Tom and Nicole really loved each other in their marriage. A real partnership. I don't think I've seen Tom as comfortable with someone since that time. I hope I'm wrong about that of course. All the people who are saying the movie was rubbish or frivolous... you literally watched it with your "Eyes Wide Shut". The movie requires the audience to open their eyes and see the hard truth that they would rather not see. It is a movie that you have to watch more than twice to fully appreciate what is going on :D

From the opening scene to the last dialogue the movie is communicating so much that you can write a book just on the analysis.

With hindsight of their divorce coming soon after this, I could see that Tom was not as tender towards Nicole...he seemed mildly upset that Nicole is speaking and she picked up on it and said "I am talking too much... I'll let Tom speak". Maybe I am seeing things that don't exist 😂😅

I'm not sure...she's very self-deprecating. That's very much her personality. I think they were both very sad while promoting the film because Stanley had died. Tom was also shooting MI2 and was very stressed due to problems with production.

I have been married for 21 years and to this day if I say something like this my partner would touch my hand or show some other warm gesture to show me that I can continue 😂.

@@CptnChan I don’t think Cruise’s career direction was anything to do with Kubrick dying. They only did one film together. He just seemed to choose less interesting roles from around 2005 onwards, really due to the success of his MI blockbusters.

They are both very attractive and articulate in their speaking. He seems to be a very dominant man. As a woman I would stay far away although he is very attractive. Charming but he is Alpha. Nothing wrong with that. It only seems there is no space for a partner which is equivalent or outstages him. He doesn't like that and you can see it in this interview. I haven't seen the film yet but will do now.

In the actual film I remember being mad about Nicole's character. I hated every second of her "Dream" as she intimated it to Tom's character. I guess that was the point.

Merci Flazeda, la capture date de 2000, et l'auteur des sous-titres qui travaillait aussi pour la TV, simplifiait comme de coutume en cette époque, ou les mots comme "cameo" n'étaient pas encore bien entrés dans le language des cinéphiles.

Not to be a d**k, but did anyone else watch this through the lens of the marriage and eventual split just a few years later. It’s prett interesting reading their chemistry and seeing the contrast between their answers. The context that theyre both actor’s talking to the press about something that is personal has to be a challenge for them. Subtlety is fun to look for especially if you know the movie theyre in so well.
